War on Drugs just announced a BK Steel show for April.
Bit perplexing of a move. They were just here in Sep and did two big shows (don't think both sold out). I know they'll sell out BK Steel but don't think demand will be huge so, if anything, this will discourage people from going to Panorama.

Honestly one of the only acts I would have cared about seeing on Friday. It really just drives home that only Sunday is worth going to (at least for me). But I am excited to see them at BK Steel.

Yeah I was planning on leaving work only on Fri to see them and FJM (assume they'll both play late in the day). Now will have to find more of a reason to go Fri. Sat, the only thing I'm really interested in is St. Vincent who I missed this past Dec but, again, can't find much of anything else to look forward to that day. Sunday is fairly stacked for the indie/alt/rock crowd so that's the only day I'm really looking forward to.
In additional news, I recommend everyone go see Lo Moon play Bowery in March.

Yeah I figure St. Vincent will just do another show of her own on this run. Only Friday acts I really cared about were War on Drugs, FJM, and Yaeji. Yaeji already has a show at elsewhere coming up, and War on Drugs are doing BK Steel.
Lo Moon is cool, they just played Gov Ball this past year.
Well the WoD show kind of stinks as an out-of-towner since I was hoping for an actual aftershow during Panorama weekend since I'm just going for Sat/Sun

I wouldn't expect real after shows for this.
edit: here's an idea of what they offered last year
Cherry Glazer at Rough Trade on July 28 (tickets) Jaguar Ma at Bowery Ballroom on July 28 (tickets w/ presales on 6/28) Theo Parrish and Marcellus Pittman at Le Bain on July 28 Preoccupations at Rough Trade on July 29 (tickets) Huerco S. and Powder at Le Bain on July 29 Derrick Carter, Honey Dijon and friends at Le Bain on July 30

Yeah the third line on Saturday is low key pretty awesome
Saturday's actually pretty solid, for my tastes. I'm definitely there for Janet, SZA is cool, St. Vincent is fucking awesome (especially if, as was hinted recently on her social media, she's back to playing with a band), and then PVRIS, Japanese Breakfast, Floating Points, Jay Som, and Lo Moon are all solid-to-pretty-great, for my tastes.
Friday's the bleakest day for me by far - below Charlotte Gainsbourg, there's no one that does anything for me.

And these were just the "official" afters. I remember MCDE played Good Room either the night before or the same night as his set, so I'm sure a lot of the electronic acts will play afters for this weekend.
Sometimes I feel like I'm in an alternate dimension as being one of the seemingly few people who really enjoy this lineup, but I guess that's what happens when you love literally every house and techno artist booked.

Friendly reminder that there’s still a round of additions coming. Last year 24 acts played Sat/Sun. There are only 17 acts on Saturday. I’m sure some of those adds will be beginning of the day cannon fodder, but guys like MCDE were late adds last year.

I'm sure it will be all DJ's. They lowered the price this year so a thinner undercard makes sense.

There's more than enough DJs to fill out the Point and even some of the Pavilion right now.

Saturday is pretty badass, imo. Maybe not as good top-to-bottom as Sunday, but SZA, St Vincent, Japanese Breakfast, Floating Points, Jay Som, Bicep, even Gucci Mane.. that's a full day afaic.
And Janet is probably the best headliner of any of the three days. Definitely the most unique.

Here's how I'd probably rank the six days of NYC fests:
1. Panorama Sunday - The Killers, The XX, David Byrne, Fleet Foxes, etc. - A minus 2. Gov Ball Friday - Jack White, YYYs, James Blake, etc. - A minus 3. Panorama Saturday - Janet Jackson, SZA, St. Vincent, etc. - B plus 4. Gov Ball Saturday - This day is mostly not good but I am overrating it because Gaslight Anthem is my second favorite band, but other than that disappointing day - B 5. Panorama Friday - War on Drugs, FJM, Daniel Caesar, The Weeknd - B minus 6. Gov Ball Sunday - NERD, Chvrches, Eminem, Khalid - C
Ultimately think I would buy two day passes to each fest if I lived in NYC since Panorama Friday I'd want to see mostly easily accessible acts and Gov Ball Sunday is painful

Pretty Similar as mine.
*Vampire Weekend-Day of The Meadows has a pretty decent shot at #1 but it'll need an xx-level sub headliner and some great undercard stuff.
1. Gov Ball Fri - Just an unreal day of music with White, Blake, YYYs, Pond, Tash, Wolf Alice 2. Pano Sun - The xx and Byrne almost almost got it #1 but The Killers staleness drops it 3. Gov Ball Saturday - Gaslight, Japanadroids, Cut Copy, VHS, Silk City - enough interesting stuff to make a good day 4. Panorama Friday - The Weeknd, blah. FJM and TWOD make it doable though. 5. Gov Ball Sunday - Stinky but NERD and Chvrches are cool and Em at least has some nostalgia 6. Panorama Saturday - Just nothing that appeals to me at all.
I can see how Panorama isn't much of a draw if you're not really into electronic, but you guys are overlooking some really solid acts there. Black Madonna and Mall Grab will both kill on Friday. I would imagine more of you would get into Floating Points if you saw his live show. They are essentially a rock band. Bicep will be great live. Then Sunday still has Moodyman and Mount Kimbie (who is again more of a rock band than electronic act). Outside of electro I'd suspect Rex Orange County would be a good Sunday show.

I genuinely like electronic and enjoy the sets most of the time. But as cool as the Parlor is i just don't really want to spend that much time in a dark tent. Would rather be outside in the sun seeing full bands and acts, especially with how great the main stage set up is.

Ooh, this is a fun game:
1. GovBall Fri - Good stuff all the way down the list. Only way for it to be better is if it were Belly the band, not the other one. 2. GovBall Sat - Don't @ me. Gaslight, Cut Copy (thanks to those who got me hooked), Japandroids, Manchester Orchestra, VHS Collection and the Regrettes are all known and enjoyed, and there's enough good in what I've heard from Brockhampton, the Menzingers, Moses Sumney, and Aurora that I'm intrigued. Plus, Silk City, which is a bit of a mystery, but which I'm sure will be a big party. 3. Pano Sun - There's no beating that second line, and I enjoy the Killers well enough, but it's otherwise a little thin in the undercard, which is why I have it at 3 and not 2. 4. Pano Sat - There for Janet, SZA, St. Vincent, Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som, Floating Points, Lo Moon, and PVRIS - assuming the schedule works out, that's a totally decent day. 5. GovBall Sun - I've never seen Eminem, so I'm into that. I love CHVRCHES and Sylvan Esso. I'm into Dirty Projectors, but hopefully they've upped their live game. After that, it's mostly acts I won't mind checking out since I'm there. 6. Pano Fri - I'll see The Weeknd. FJM, TWOD, and Charlotte Gainsbourg are up my alley. After that, it's weak sauce (for my personal preference) all the way down.

The Parlor isn't much to look at. I think Floating Points and Kimbie will be in a tent (at least their setup seems to call for a bigger spread). Nice thing about this fest is it's so small you can bounce around when the feeling strikes. It did suck the first year when acts like Kaytranada hit capacity. Not sure if they fixed that. It seems like the majority of acts you guys want to see will be on the main though so at least the dance tent is a nice alternative.

I really, truly tried with Black Madonna, Mall Grab, and Bicep, and I just couldn't get into them. That's just a personal thing - I'm not much for DJ sets. I did get into Floating Points and Mount Kimbie, though, based on some recommendations from this thread, so I'm grateful for that.

Pano Sat: Avalon Emerson, Bicep live, Cardi B, DJ Python, Gucci Mane, Floating Points, Janet Jackson, Japanese Breakfast, Kyle Hall, St. Vincent, SZA Pano Sun: David Byrne, Downtown Boys, Fleet Foxes, Greta Van Fleet, Helena Hauff, Jlin, Moodymann, Mount Kimbie, ODESZA, Shannon and the Clams, Shanti Celeste, the xx Pano Fri: Daniel Caesar, Mall Grab, Mike Servito, The Black Madonna, The War on Drugs, The Weeknd, Yaeji Gov Ball Fri: Jack White, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, James Blake, 6LACK, Goldlink, Tash Sultana, Alvvays, Pond Gov Ball Sat: Travis Scott, Japandroids, Kelela, BROCKHAMPTON, Moses Sumney, Cuco Gov Ball Sun: N.E.R.D., Sylvan Esso, Amine, Kali Uchis
I would probably pay $100 to see a Gaslight Anthem / Japandroids / The Menzingers show (three of my favorite bands), but I'm so disappointed by the rest of that day. Ugh.
I'd probably watch Moses Sumney, Cut Copy, and The Regrettes if I attended, but that's an all-timer trifecta for me on an otherwise wasted day.

Have you checked out Manchester Orchestra? Seems like you're more into the rock vibe, and they're pretty solid in that regard.

A group of 5 friends just all agreed to go to Saturday and got tickets. I'm pumped to see Janet, SZA and St. Vincent! Also excited to finally experience those huge Coachella main stage screens.
