Sorry to grovel but my mother-in-law made it to the front of the Lyte line for a 3-day but due to a payment processing error, lost the tickets. So, if anyone has a line on a 3-day out there, it'd be very helpful and send me a PM. Thanks.

Not sure if Tim Slavin is on this thread, but found the interaction with Nils Lofgren on Twitter a possible clue in our hunt for the Saturday night headliner. Nils Lofgren was part of the E Street Band as well as currently playing with Crazy Horse. When Tim asked about playing Newport he says he would love an invitation to the "Blues Festival". Deer Tick then retweeted it calling it out to Jay Sweet's attention. I take all this to mean that he A., he isn't that familiar because he mixes up Blues for Folk, and B., isn't coming this year.
Doesn't necessarily eliminate Bruce and/or Neil Young as the headliner, but would think this makes both less likely. May be totally irrelevant since Bruce would probably play solo as he is in his Broadway show and Neil would probably play with the Promise of the Real rather than Crazy Horse.

If Bruce plays it'd be solo and not with the band if I had to guess. Similar to his Broadway show that's on going with other special guests possibly. I'm not expecting him with the E Street band.

Yep, I could see it being a lot like John Prine's set last year, except without the limited backing band. If he plays after "A Change is Gonna Come" I imagine he'll bring out some of the Newport fam to sing some tunes with him.

My ideal Bruce Newport set would have him coming out for an encore with a backing band of Newport musicians to play some of the folkier tunes off of his Pete Seeger cover album. Although, with this year’s lineup, I’m not even sure who the banjo and fiddle players would be (especially if he played on Sunday).
Speaking of Eaux Claires, this article addresses the inkling of concern I have re: Newport further embracing the unannounced artist and special collab sets idea in the future.
Complaints that many of these collabs sounded more like a rehearsal playing unrecognizable music.
Lineup expectations being built very high and the actual sets/booked acts not delivering on those expectations (Rumors of Kanye West, Arcade Fire, etc. were instead Justin Vernon covering Bob Dylan songs- I’d be down for that, but I can understand why others, especially those who see Justin Vernon every year at Eaux Claires, might be underwhelmed).
A fest that relies too heavily on those in the curators’ circle... and thus resulting in many repeat acts (now that it is old enough to have repeat acts).
Right now, I am happy with the balance that Newport strikes (I’m all for a few unannounced and a few rehearsal style collaboration sets). But I give caution to any lineup that leans too heavily on either of these tricks (even if it helps them save a few dollars). This is also a reminder to myself that Bruce Springsteen will NOT be headlining Newport.

I like the special collab sets but would prefer they forego the unannounced headliner/artist. Largely due to the potential of not knowing their material as well and also crazy expectations.

Interesting read! In my eyes, Saturday has one of the weakest lineups since I've been attending Newport (5 years). A collaboration set with the usual suspects. Jay's best buds and lesser known artists will be a huge let down, especially since it's unannounced and we've been speculating since NFF hasn't really had much communication/podcasts this rolling lineup season.

I'd say its light on big names, but not weak. Still 10 acts I want to see that day without even talking about the museum stage. I thought Friday in 2016 had less I'd be interested in, but still found 7 or 8 acts I liked. Did a lot of wandering back and forth that day.

I agree. On the surface, it looks like the weakest day, but once I dug into the artists performing, I realized it has the most that I am familiar with and might be even more difficult of a walking day than Friday (and we don't even have a headliner??)
Beneath the Sacred Mountain, Colter Wall, Courtney Barnett, Hiss, Jenny Lewis, Low Cut Connie, Shakey Graves, Valerie June, oh my!

That's pretty much who I'm looking forward to on Saturday as well, I would also add in Bedouine, Lukas Nelson and Phoebe Bridgers. Definitely looking forward to Beneath the Sacred Mountain the most on Saturday (so far!). I would be more excited for Saturday if I didn't just see Valerie and Low Cut Connie within the past few months, but that being said, both killed it. And I saw Valerie playing solo, so I would be pretty pumped if she did a full band set.
Is Open Season a new food vendor? Or have I just been missing it?
Because...
OPEN SEASON Venison Chili / Chili Cheese Fries / Bison Burger / Wild Boar Nachos / Wild Boar Quesadilla / Lousy Hunter / Fish Tacos / Gator Bites / Cheese Fries /French Fries
There's a few food items on the list that I don't remember ever seeing. As a picky eater it's always been tough at NFF for me but there's a few options I'm excited to try.
