New podcast with Christopher Paul Stelling and Ben Harper talking the blues. Am only halfway through, but have a hard time seeing how anyone could miss Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite's set after listening to the podcast. For those of you already struggling with Friday's conflicts, be warned!

That definitely made Friday's conflicts tougher. Great podcast
Been so busy working weekends and nights lately I need Newport this year more than ever. Thanks to whoever put out the mock schedule. They're usually pretty close to real thing. I hope Ben Harper / Charlie Musselwhite and Darlingside are at least at the Quad. Totally agree the unnanounced headliners (if there are any) isnt a good idea. Peoples expectations get carried away. Theres a certain big name being thrown around who honestly is a long shot. The guessing just sets everyone up for disappointnent. We dont get the chance to dig deeper into their music and honestly its just a little frustrating. I few surpise sets arw great. They add to the excitement but i feel like this year its too much and actually deflating the excitement. Dont get me wrong. I think all days will be amazing and we may be in for something legendary. I think in 2015 they perfected the art of builing up excitement in timing of announcements whilst maintaining mystery. This year, partly because of finishing annoucements earlier and because i cant go to the aftershows i feel like the last few months were a bit meh made worse by a great friend coming for the first time ever and choosing to come on the Saturday. I keep having to reasure her that Saturday will be great. Last thing. Delighted Margo is back again. For the past two years she's had the best collaborations I've ever seen. Hope for more.
For me, one of the lesser discussed unknowns is what the Nels Cline set will entail. Maybe the placement on the schedule will answer a few questions? If it opens the day, maybe it will just be instrumental?

I like the hypothesis that he will be traveling from set to set throughout the day.
Only way we're seeing this is at Newport 2018 is if there's an unannounced set on Friday, but it would make the Cook Brothers show even more interesting.
And am I the only one that thought Ben Harper cane across totally insufferable In that podcast?
I know some of her tunes have those instruments in them and she usually plays with a fairly extensive band. Although, while I have never seen her live, from videos it looks like cellos are more common. I’m okay with that too.
Is Courtney a last minute no show leaving that gap? Last time that happened they filled the segment with Texas Gentlemen and Kris kristofferson / Margo right? Weird they didn't move Phoebe Bridgers over to the Quad then. Maybe they were thinking screw it. People need to be at Lucas Nelson? Courtney's partner is still playing Sunday. My friend going for the first time on Saturday wasn't excited that day already. I hope she loves whoever is unannounced.
Do you think Isbell got the headlining nod due to his special guest? (Crosby)
Possibly, but he also has a longer history with the festival, is closer on the heels of his last album and is more actively touring at the moment (headlining Floyd Festival too).
Ugh, this schedule is awful (in comparison to our own ClashFinders)
Tyler Childers overlaps with Margo Price - for those interested in the alt country, too bad.
Glorietta overlaps with Moses Sumney (and Glorietta with Lucius) - for those interested in the indie, too bad.
For me personally, I have a 2 and a half hour gap on Saturday with nothing I want to see...
Why does Jenny Lewis and Courtney Barnett and Courtney Barnett and Leithauser and Rostam overlap? The top two bands I want to see the most now largely overlap (Courtney and Rostam/Leif)... ugh.
Brandi and Langhorne - the two most foot stomping bands on sunday - overlap.
