That does nothing to change my statement. It was a nice sentiment, but brave? Comeon now.
Love coming onto a music festival forum and seeing what white people have determined is good or bad praxis for young black men trying to make it in the music industry.
Oh shut it, that’s not what this is about and you know it.

We should talk about something less controversial like whether Chuck Berry should be honored. Just kidding. Don't want to open that can of worms.
Wearing a T-shirt doesn’t take guts. Actual activism does.
I'm sorry. You're a new up and coming artist. It's your first appearance on national TV. It's make or break for you. Your whole career is on the line. There is a climate of hate in America. There is a powerful candidate on the same show as you. He has been preaching hate and urging followers to beat up opponents. He has been preaching that emigrants are mostly criminal. He didn't need to bother making the statement. But he did. It was small. Other people's careers were runined for doing less. He wore the jersey of those being picked on. Not enough people did much about what was going on at the time. They are now but it's a bit like closing the door after horse has bolted. Maybe he's not Newport enough. Or maybe he's the modern version of what Newport was all about. You know who was watching that night and though so. Jay Sweet.
I had no problem with Newport booking him. I'd love for them to book more from the hip-hop and neo-soul/R&B world
I had a problem with the performance he delivered at the festival.
As for his Trump "protest", I'd wager that close to 100% of Colbert's audience, even then, vehemently dislikes the man. Any musician who's come out in support of him is basically a pariah. Raury was pretty much preaching to the choir. Not saying it wasn't worth doing, but I wouldn't call it "brave".
Really? I thought he was great. I'd listened to his album a lot before it so maybe that helped. The crowd gave him a burst standing ovation at end so I wasn't only one. The only cringe factor was his usual backing choir was only a recording which at Newport is a big no no. On the Colbert Show he got a standing ovation also and killed it. He wore a Mexico soccer jersey on the show the night Trump was on the show which took guts. He's just a kid and probably couldn't afford the full backing at Newport. I think he has potential and put full on energy into that performance. He is a bit of a spiritual hippie and the peace love thing is unusual in a folk rapper. If you're not into rap or spiritual hippies I could see why you'd cringe.
I am into both of those things. I wasn't into how out of tune his singing was through the entire set.
So looking at the Bonnaroo lineup...is there any chance of Broken Social Scene playing this? I think they would be a good enough fit and I haven't seen them before. I would also like to see Anderson Paak show up, but I think that is quite a bit less likely.

I know. You said. He brought the Quad to it's feet over and over so most people there felt differently. The buzz after his set was one few artists achieve. Like Dylan was ever in tune.

How about let's not? I was part of that conversation last year and immediately regretted it.
We should be discussing artists that we feel will be at Newport, and once they are gradually announced (if they're sticking with what they usually do), we should talk about the artists playing.
Old Crow (yes, always) Bon Iver (2 sets makes me wonder if one is acoustic; if so, he’d be ready for a similar set at Newport) Sturgill War and Treaty First Aid Kit Trombone Shorty
I’d also fully support Anderson Paak and Moses Sumney.

Those would all be great! Wouldn't mind some Tyler Childers either
Although he's headlining a few festivals this year, I wouldn't mind seeing Jack White back at the Fort. His 2014 set was pretty phenomenal - I distinctly remember an epic Cannon > John the Revelator > Icky Thump > Cannon combo that blew my mind 25 feet or so from the stage. This photo I took from that day is still one of my all-time favorites:
I don't have any expectations though, I'll enjoy myself regardless - I have trust in Jay Sweet and I'm sure I'll love whomever they have play that Saturday

James Taylor 7/28 Philadelphia and no Boston date.
2015 was special. I just wish the sound system didn't keep blaring up. So does having no Boston date make Newport more or less likely? Just found this cool Bon Iver live video. Now that Justin's experienced playing the fest I think its just a matter of time before we see something just like this except with the Newport logo hanging in the background. He might need to wear a red Sox hat instead though.

About to return a ticket via Lyte. It says that you don't get paid until the day after the event ends, aka the end of July. Is this true? Anyone dealt with this before?
