Tedeschi Trucks/DBT tour just announced. They'll be in CO for Newport.
Any chance of Fleetwood Mac headlining one night? Saw they are potentially touring this summer.
Their booking fee is astronomical so almost definitely not
I think you could convince a solo artist to take the pay cut to play. Especially when he or she chooses to play with Newport artists as his or her backing band. But for a band like Fleetwood Mac, there are just too many hands in the cookie jar to get them to play at a very (emphasize- very) reduced rate (I’d be happy to have to eat my words though).
With that said, I still believe that one day Mumford and Sons will be on board to headline NFF (and be willing to give up a large pay day to do so). They do have new music coming out so maybe this will be the year... (doubtful, give it a few more iterations for their popularity to die down a little).
Courtney is playing Shaky Knees. Good to see her back in the states.
I've been high on the Courtney Barnett-Kurt Vile hog. Doesn't seem like they're playing fests together but lord knows if anyone could convince them for a one off it would be Jay.
I've been wondering though--would that be a headliner? They both played the quad in the past and if memory serves Kurt closed it down the last time he was there.
Other people who are not headliners on the posters out so far but might be at Newport: David Byrne? War on Drugs? St. Vincent? Haim? I think all of those are viable Friday headliners, by vibe if not touring schedule, Byrne especially with connections to Rhode Island and Lucius. And they all fall on the same line as Fleet Foxes at Coachella...

Not to dash any hopes but St. Vincent and Haim probably wouldn't play Newport, and Byrne's a long-shot given the production for his tour and him playing XPN and Pano. I don't think Courtney/Kurt or TWOD would headline but I'd love to see either/both of them there regardless

IMO, Byrne is the only on this list that could headline Newport... and it would be a long shot that he even plays.
War on Drugs is likely a sub headliner, and unless they’re at Panorama, I am betting on them at Newport. St Vincent and Haim don’t really fit in with the vibe of the fest, not that I’m against branching out.

What makes you say that? I've been pretty surprised by some of the acts they've brought in before who a few years ago would also have been "probably wouldn't play Newport".

So have I, but I tend to always be able to see the connection. Those two just strike me as leaning a little too far into the indie rock/pop sphere. Could you point to a comparable booking?
At this point just about anything could happen at Newport though, so I shouldn't 100% rule it out. A St. Vincent acoustic set could have some interesting potential...

Trying to think of someone comparable. I know I was shocked at Beck or some of the rap/hip hop names that have shown up. Not sure about pop acts though. Would have to look through some old lineups
Maybe this means nothing, but the lineup page is different this year. Usually before the lineup is announced the page is divided up by day. (Fri Sat Sun)
Maybe they have a new take on announcements this year.
Raury sucked. I was interetsed in him and I really could not believe how bad he was.
Might be the only time I've physically cringed at a Newport set
Really? I thought he was great. I'd listened to his album a lot before it so maybe that helped. The crowd gave him a burst standing ovation at end so I wasn't only one. The only cringe factor was his usual backing choir was only a recording which at Newport is a big no no. On the Colbert Show he got a standing ovation also and killed it. He wore a Mexico soccer jersey on the show the night Trump was on the show which took guts. He's just a kid and probably couldn't afford the full backing at Newport. I think he has potential and put full on energy into that performance. He is a bit of a spiritual hippie and the peace love thing is unusual in a folk rapper. If you're not into rap or spiritual hippies I could see why you'd cringe.

I am into both of those things. I wasn't into how out of tune his singing was through the entire set.
Wearing a T-shirt doesn’t take guts. Actual activism does.
I'm sorry. You're a new up and coming artist. It's your first appearance on national TV. It's make or break for you. Your whole career is on the line. There is a climate of hate in America. There is a powerful candidate on the same show as you. He has been preaching hate and urging followers to beat up opponents. He has been preaching that emigrants are mostly criminal. He didn't need to bother making the statement. But he did. It was small. Other people's careers were runined for doing less. He wore the jersey of those being picked on. Not enough people did much about what was going on at the time. They are now but it's a bit like closing the door after horse has bolted. Maybe he's not Newport enough. Or maybe he's the modern version of what Newport was all about. You know who was watching that night and though so. Jay Sweet.

That does nothing to change my statement. It was a nice sentiment, but brave? Comeon now.

Love coming onto a music festival forum and seeing what white people have determined is good or bad praxis for young black men trying to make it in the music industry.
