I already feel like I have my album of the year with this new Typhoon album. Holy crap.
Also, as far as the new Jack White goes, Respect Commander is stellar but the other song is a little too formulaic for my liking. The new Katie Toupin is good but a bit repetitive (Still, really hope she's at Newport in some form). The new Night Sweats makes me proud to be a Night Sweats fan again as I had grown sick of their last album... playing it at Newport 3 years in a row was really giving it an "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" vibe... like they were just gonna cash out and continue to play that album and never make new music.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Would think that means he won’t play Panorama, which means he’ll have an extra day to play Newport
Nevermind, read that as Forest Hills (NY-bias). He’s probably playing panorama
You prompted me to sign up for the Forest Hills email. Not a wild fan of the old tennis stadium (last saw the Who there), but Byrne is very New York. Just wondering -- he is, shall we say, an acquired taste. I recall how much I loved Patti Smith, but how thin the crowd was for her a couple of years ago. Last time I saw DB was with Talking Heads and Television at CBGB's. It seems a logical progression after Patti. And he won't spit. Probably not smile, either.
Forecastle Festival has a lot of Newport darlings. Might have some crossovers. (Also, KV/CB at the same fest, but billed separately)
Yeah it's definitely very Americana/folk-oriented this year.
Would love to see Jenny Lewis return. Been waiting for her new album for a while now. I'm also pulling for a main stage/full band Father John Misty set
Nathaniel Rateliff w/ Deer Tick @ Blue Hills Bank Pavilion 6/8
Also playing Forest Hills Stadium in NY w/ The Head and the Heart and Hiss
Nice, was thinking about the show with deer tick but may try for the Forrest Hills one instead. Not a great venue but easy to get to and I haven't seen the other acts enough.
I need to get a calendar and really start thinking about summer plans
Decemberists with a huge gap between June and August and no other New England dates before Boston Calling. Technically they didn't play Newport Folk last year, Offa Rex did. maybe they'll be back!

Digging that Forecastle lineup. I would imagine Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett will do some stuff together. My guess for first announcement: Bon Iver.
Also, and I know it's been discussed, when are we expecting this first announcement? Want to say it came on a Friday last year but can't remember if it was early February or what.
Saw The Devil Makes Three on Tuesday. They've added a fiddle player and a drummer. Definitely had a much more melodic sound to them than the handful of times I've seen them in the past.

when you add members to your band that is named numerically...
