I'm not complaining but I'd like to see some artists with more zip and liveliness on the lineup.
I’ve been a little down on this lineup because I haven’t recognized many names. Then I found some time to listen to these newbies. If you haven’t listened yet, Tank and the Bangas may have exactly what you’re looking for.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

Think we'll see the Felice Brothers make a return. They don't have any major tours and are re-working their live show since there have been lineup changes. But they keep having random dates pop up and Ian had his solo album come out so I could see them (or at least Ian) coming back to the fest.

I did forget about Tank and the Bangas. I'm glad I also got tickets for The National's Homecoming Festival-- FJM, Big Thief, Julien Baker, Moses Sumney, Lord Huron and others. Great lineup-- it will satisfy the more alternative side of my music taste.
Big Thief was one of the worst shows I've ever seen in my life. But I'm sure some people liked it.
One of my favorites of the fest
Haha! Proof that there's to each his/her own. I actually liked one song a lot, it was one of the best songs I saw at the entire fest (the one with the long guitar solo, I just loved it). The rest just fell entirely flat to me.

I liked it, but my wife was uncomfortable watching what looked like the singer having a breakdown on stage.
They probably realize they can’t stop people from “expecting more” so figured they’d start slow.
Considering the list of performers who showed up last year who weren't even on the lineup was better that most music festivals I ain't concerned at all. Tank and the bangas look like a lot of fun. So far I'm most excited that Sturgill is on the list. My kids a big Courtney Barnett fan so he's happy. It'll end up being a pile of conflicts as usual anyway. Always does. Breaks my heart I couldn't make it to Drive By Truckers last year. Sniff sniff. The people who were talking about Bill Murray might be on to something. Looks like more tour dates added today.
The slow start feels like a progression of Jay’s anti-headliner philosophy. He has talked about how they avoid the big font/little font headliner display and the new format on the website defaults to alphabetical. I think he truly wants to spotlight the non headliner artists and is doing so by rolling them out first. I know my playlist builds as it the announcements are made so these first acts inevitably get a lot of playtime.
That being said, Beaker, how did you pick Rachael and Vilray for your Bingo card? Seems like a real long shot.
Also, going to do a quick commercial. For Christmas I convinced my loved ones to get me the vinyl den/ dualtone (http://www.thevinylden.com) monthly membership. For those of you that enjoy the excitement of the Newport announcements I think you would enjoy the mystery of getting an album from Dualtone. It is almost all Newport related artists. Just found out I will be getting Mt Joy’s album next month and I loved them at Newport last year. Enjoy!

Saw them live in Boston last month, and thought they would be a perfect NFF fit. Her band has played the fest, so it seemed kinda obvious possibility to me.

Speaking of, Simone Felice just announced a new record out in April and some UK tour dates. Surprised he's never played Newport as a solo artist
