Is it weird that Courtney doesn’t have a album release show for her album? How cool would it be for Newport to promote one for that Friday! Don’t bands usually do that?
I mean...there’s no way the band just chills out on release night right?

Anybody think the Smashing Pumpkins would have headliner potential? They just announced their tour. Playing Mohegan Sun the 29th and the TD Garden the 31st. So they could be available to headline Sunday.
I think it could make sense if they chose to do an acoustic set like that Pixies set years ago.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

So much new folk (friendly) music up on spotify today (some of it might have gone up earlier in the week):
Trampled by Turtles (song) I’m With Her (album) Okkervil River (song) Shannon and the Clams (album) Dr Dog (song) Willie Nelson (song) Family of the Year (song) Mt Joy (song) Lord Huron (song) Belle and Sebastian (album) Vance Joy (song) Valerie June (album) Brett Dennen (album) Ryan Adams (song) Marlon Williams (album) Brandi Carlile (album) Courtney Barnett (song- went up yesterday for sure)
And it’s possible I missed something!
This also makes me think that Belle and Sebastian would be a phenomenal main stage act that would have that rarity and unique appeal that I look for in Newport bookings.

They are scheduled all NFF weekend
Whoops... was thinking the 30th was Sunday not Monday.

I saw Valerie at Mountain Jam a bunch of years back and hated it. Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard. My music change has changed a lot since that period, but I haven't been able to bring myself to give her another shot. Hated her voice that much.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I figured they’d be on the lineup this year. Been getting added to a lot of fests. Currently on tour with Valerie June.
I had not heard of them a month ago but they are on both pickathon and shaky knees, so I’ve been listening a bit and really like. Now I guess I get a third chance to see them lol

You should give her another shot, her album that came out last year was fantastic.

Looks like Lord Huron is open for Saturday and Sunday with a date in Maine on Monday. I'm going to miss them that Thursday night in Pittsburgh, so holding out hope they play Newport.
A Jason Isbell show got announced in Virginia on July 24th
Yeah he's playing FloydFest right after that too
He's playing Saturday at FloydFest, so Friday is probably our only shot. Headlining late on Saturday at Floydfest, and making a show on Sunday wouldn't be impossible, but it's unlikely.
The War and Treaty are playing at a friend's house concert next month! The guy is from Cleveland originally. I'll also be catching them at the Valerie June concert this week. Can't wait!
Just listened to a Margo Price podcast. It was heartbreaking hearing her talk about loosing a child. The turmoil it caused resulted in a police chase and weekend in jail. At the end of the podcast she talked about singing with Kris Kristofferson at NFF as a career highlight. Turns out Patti Smith was supposed to sing with him that day but she got stuck in traffic. The while set was result of a band cancelling. Margo was being interviewed by Rolling Stone when they called her and asked if she'd sing 'Me and Bobby McGee' with Kris. She loved Joplin so knew his song. Anyway, she ran from the interview to sing the song on stage. Boy was it meant to be because it proved to be one of those golden moments. He told her she sounded beautiful during the song. I wasn't excited when she was first announced but her collaborations have turned out to be some of the best moments of 2016 and 2017. When John Prine called her out to sing 'In spite of ourselves' I remember saying perfect to someone.
Loved Jay's Saturday night twitter takeover. Starting with Langhorne Slim lyrics and especially this: "a lot of folk alum specifically asked to come back with everything happening they needed to feel a safe place to speak their minds. We told them the door is open"
And then him engaging on the Thursday - Monday 5 day Festival!
Was wondering to myself whether they would announce anyone on President's day so I looked up our thread last year. And on this day in 2017, The Seratones.
Bedouine is awesome. I'm psyched she's playing! Saw her open for José González a couple weeks ago and she was great. Hoping she'll be coming with a full band!
She won't be one to appease the folks wishing there were some more energetic groups in the lineup thus far, but is a wonderful add for many of us who enjoy the quieter acts.
