Where do I start with either of these gentlemen?
EDIT: I will clarify, with literally no knowledge of either of them outside of the Vampire Weekend connection, that I strongly dislike Vampire Weekend.

I am open to hearing new things.
I'd probably recommend staying away from Rostam's solo stuff if you hate VW, but the collab album is very good and Hamilton's solo record is pretty solid.
Not sure if we'll get any songs from The Walkmen in this set, but they're a band well worth checking out regardless
Hamilton also put out this excellent duet with Angel Olsen last year

That was incredibly pleasant to my ears and brain. Will definitely check out more.

Rostam’s solo stuff reminds me more of Atlas Sound than Vampire Weekend.
Upon listening again, I guess I can hear similar arrangements to that of Vampire Weekend. But I’ll still stick to the other comparison.
I'm a relative newbie who started going in 2015. I wonder what peoples favorite sets have been in the time they've been going? A few of mine (no particular order) were:
Roger Waters 2015 Sufjan (Win the Oscar) Stevens 2015 Glen Hansard 2016 Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros plus Preservation Hall Jazz Band 2016 Kris Kristofferson/Margo Price/Texas Gentlemen 2016 Patti Smith 2016 Michael Kiwanuka 2017 Avett Brothers 2017 John Prine and guests 2017
Bonus questions Does anyone know someone who has or has anyone here on this forum been to the Newport Folk Festival in the 60s or 70s? If not then what is the furthest back someone went?
Who here holds the record for having gone the most times?

did you not go to Friday of 2015 or is there a reason roger waters isn't on your list?
The Dawes Aftershow Saturday of 2013 was the best for me, if it counts. Dawes, Blake Mills, Jason Isbell, Father John Misty, Langhorne Slim, Jim James, Shovels and Rope... I still think about it.

Best shows I've seen at Newport were both last year, and both were the Pickens aftershows. Nothing has come close, except maybe Speak Out and Grandma's Hands Band.
Favorites - mine has a lot more specific moments rather than favorite sets; like beaker said, it’s a bit tough to list favorite sets
Julien Baker running off stage barely able to get “thank you” out without losing it at the end of her set
Langhorne doing Song For Sid
Waters joining Prine last year
Margo getting to do Me & Bobby McGee with kristofferson & TX Gents
Laura Marling
Radical Face
Probably a ton I’m forgetting that easily rival most of these
As for favorite year that’s probably even tougher. My initial reaction is 2014 just because it was my first time experiencing the magical essence that is Newport and finding my musical Mecca. If based on just the lineup it’s probably a different year, though I have a very tough time sorting out who was what year as my brains just lumps all of it as Newport.

Got a call from, Jess and Holly, "Let’s record 'Goodnight Irene'”, Me, “Ok where and when?” Jess and Holly, “Electric Lady 45 rpm phone booth, tomorrow” Me, “Ok”. The next day, Me,”Here I is!” Jess and Holly, “Lets do it”, Me “Who’s playing guitar?” Jess and Holly "You are” Me "I haven’t got a guitar” Jess and Holly "we’ll lend you one.” Me "what key’s it in?” Jess and Holly, E major, Me “lets do it, paste the words on the back of the phone booth”, Jess and Holly, “You can’t remember the words?”, Me,”Get in that fucking booth, young lady”. And here ’tis, one take, a track off the new Lucius Album NUDES, with love for my gorgeous girls and great respect and deference to Huddie Ledbetter!
I really am hoping they will be there. I’m enjoying the lineup, especially after last week’s announcements, but I still want more foot-stomping tunes. Right now, all but 2 (maybe 3) announced artists are singer songwriters of some sort (or single instrumentalists). If they were to all come without backing bands (this most likely won’t be the case, so I’m not actually worried), we would only have two bassists/drummers at the fest.
Plus, I need some folk-bluegrass crossover (Trampled may fit the bill).

Delaware on the 27th - Virginia on the 29th. Logistically it doesn’t make sense to go Delaware - Newport - Virginia.
saw aaron lee tasjan with about 20-30 people at mercury lounge in the storm friday night. he was amazing, as expected, playing solo with a mix of new tunes. i doubt anyone expected him back consecutive years, which he confirmed when i met him after the show. super nice guy tho and the new songs are solid.
anyone else check out new Mt Joy record? feels a bit more on the generic/lumineers/train side than i was hoping but it's a decent listen.
ready for some more announcments, good start today with phoebe but im hoping we get something big and exciting this week.
