The new Night Sweats album is fantastic! For a group that I got super tired of, I'm surprised how much I enjoy the new one. Definitely looking forward to seeing them again.

This has been my reaction to it as well. It’s not anything mind-blowing but I really really dig it. Has me a lot more excited to see them this summer

Cool, can't wait. I definitely was a big fan of their live show/first album but they really needed to add some variety to their concerts. Saw them a few times and always good energy and playing but felt pretty similar to the other few times.
I liked one or two of the singles they released. My record is in transit now.
Last night I went to the Bob Weir and Phil Lesh show in Boston - Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams were the special guests in a second set that was pure Americana bliss. Larry Campbell played a mean fiddle, mandolin and guitar - I had seen them both previously with the Levon Helm Band and they were great
I could see them being a fantastic fit at Newport, although I doubt it would ever happen
per jay sweet Instagram comment, Bobby and/or phil are out.
"We have tried and tried they wanted more money than the entire lineup combined"
They have cult like devotion from their fans. A buddy of mine is a big fan but told me Bob is greedy. Compare this to Roger Waters or Hozier. Waters flew half way across the country with Lucius last year to sing a song with John Prine. Hozier thanked Newport for giving him a chance by coming back at his peak and playing for free in 2015. I want to see performers who love music and get it, not performers milking it. I made the mistake this week of paying way inflated ticket prices for a concert my kid wanted to go to. From now on I'm going to only see performers who don't rip off their fans.

what if these guys were taking as much money as they could get so they could fulfil some sort of philanthropic goal towards the end of their lives? then would you think they were greedy?

No but I don’t think that defense holds water in this case. I’m sure Newport would sponsor any goal they were trying to attain if they were trying to do something for the greater good. I think Jay is a big enough fan of the dead to be thrilled to help.
Anyone listen to the new Madisen Ward and Mama Bear song? I was not a big fan of that debut album, but this new tune is pretty good. More produced, and fuller sound for sure.

Listened to it yesterday. I loved them in 2015 at Newport. Got their first album. I listened to Silent Movies way too much.
The view count for Passenger's big hit is no longer the 1.7 billion it was when he was debated about here. It's now 1,800,184,373 views to be exact. Guess that'll make him feel a bit better about only getting 261 likes on Newport's Facebook post. Honestly I think a certain percentage didn't realize who he is. When I saw the lyric on Twitter I knew it but couldn't remember his performer name until I looked it up. Added to that is the fact he's bigger across the pond. Kind of shame because whilst I'm sure securing him wasn't big bucks it still can't have been cheap.
Arctic Monkeys just announced Boston Garden on Newport weekend. Them and Radiohead in town at the same time are some of the biggest conflicts I can remember.
