There are straight-up music podcasts as well... Live music, not music theory/discussion. Tiny Desk for example has all of their performances on there to stream the audio.
Tiny Desk is considered a podcast? Then I guess I lied. I have listened to podcasts. I do dislike the talking parts between the music though
Podcast has become an extremely vague term.
These days it basically means a channel where someone can post audio files of whatever they want for streaming. I agree I don’t think of Tinydesk as a podcast, but they were able to adapt their original format to be podcast capable.
Not to go down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole...
But all of the bands I had previously mentioned having appeared on The National’s Day of the Dead covers album are free on Saturday evening. This includes the bands that play Friday or Sunday (This is the Kit, Lucius, Moses Sumney, and the Lone Bellow).
[Also of interest was the comment Jay made about Jenny Lewis in the podcast. He basically said she has an open invite and told her to contact him when she has something interesting to show off]
Probably more of a coincidence than anything else (for instance, This is the Kit and Moses Sumney travel to Europe and probably need a few days off from shows to make the trip). I want to believe. But it seems like too much of a long shot (with the fact that the album is now 2 years old).

This reminds me that MOF gets all the love (rightly so) but Jenny Lewis was at the center of a few other early-2000s collaborations. Thinking of the "handle with care" cover that features Conor Oberst, M. Ward and Ben Gibbard. And of course she did a lot of vocals for the Postal Service. Oh what I wouldn't give for an acoustic play thru of give up at the fort one day...

That might have been my favorite ever reunion show. If only because that album meant so much to me in high school and college. I’d get behind another chance to see it live.
This reminds me that she has a song with Rostam that was created for the show Girls. Would love to see this happen at the fort.
She’s also backed up Cursive and Elvis Costello, both acts that I would gladly welcome to the fort (for Elvis, a return to the fort). Cursive is one of my favorite bands out of that ”emo goes indie and incorporates elements of folk” scene from the aughts.
Thinking about this all, I’d totally welcome a career spanning Jenny Lewis headlining set in which she brought out Blake, Conor, Ben, Elvis, Rostam, Ryan Adams, and co. I’ve always hoped for a Rilo Kiley reunion set at the fort. I don’t think I’d be disappointed if she turned out to be our Sat headliner with something like this planned.
very low, he's gonna be in germany with traveller that weekend (https://www.travellertheband.com/tour/). which as mentioned before is a tragedy. i saw them in bk a few weeks back and that show was made for a newport after party.

I messed up so bad by not moving Heaven and Earth to see the Postal Service when they came back, I too played that album on repeat in High School.
A Rilo Kiley reunion would make all my dreams come true as well.
based on the response time of this tactic, expect me to spend my afternoon tweeting at arcade fire and bruce and neil young and lord huron and jack white and....
Even though this isn't happening, I appreciate the postings as I totally missed this when it came out. I hope that Nels' Cline's set somehow includes St. Stephen
So are the Jane Pickens after shows more like sit-down events than the DT shows? Looking at pics of the theater and it looks like it's all seated.
Yes, seated, and it's first come first served. ilovethisgame and I have left right at the beginning of the headliner twice to go to Jane Pickens shows and were in the first 20 people in line, and sat in the 2nd row both times.

EDIT: if this happens next year, i want a spot on stage.
Bummer that it’s not happening, and also likely means no National (or they’d have responded differently), but love the response you got (aside from it being negative).
I don’t see much love for the Phil Cook show, but for anyone who got shut out on DT and is trying to figure out their nighttime plans, give it a consideration. Even if you don’t know him, I suspect you will find his music and his guests top notch.

Great write up in Spin Magazine on Margo Price's performance at the Ryman. Reading it got me really excited for Friday at Newport. Sometimes I wish I lived in Nashville. It kind of feels like it must be like Newport Folk every weekend there.
Anyway, several of the Newport lineup is referenced in the article including Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Lukas Nelson, (and maybe Jack White?)
This year's aftershows have been the most enticing in the last 5 years I think. I love the Cook Bros so much, Glorietta is incredibly exciting, and FJM. Langhorne is the man and I've never been to a bad show, but a mix-up to Shakey for Newport's Eve is going to be awesome. Throw in Deer Tick and I don't even know what to do with myself. Good problem to have, but I am going to be TIRED on Sunday/Monday/tuesdaywednesdaythrus....
