That's a shame. Although the lineup didn't stack up well against previous years it was still good. These kind of lineups just don't move tickets over here anymore.
The issue with FYF this year IMO was it was too expensive for what it was offering. The lineup was pretty solid, but GAs were $300 for a headliner the majority of FYF's demo didn't care for - Janet - plus a bunch of subs from last year's festival circuit (The XX, Future, etc.). Almost all of my friends who were religious FYF die-hards were waiting for some sort of promotion code or Groupon or something to get down in the ~$200-250 range. When you see ACL three day passes are $225 for THAT LINEUP maybe this festival just got too expensive to put on.

I think the issue with FYF this year is that it was an indie fest in LA where the founder was accused of Sexual Assault. They should have never booked this thing in the first place for 2018
Every festival is just going to follow the Levitation route in the future (i.e., multiple indoor venues across the city).
How's that exactly?
Obviously not every festival, but I meant that with more and more cancellations (guaranteed to happen given the bubble), all the acts of the lineup will go indoors, such as what Levitation has been doing since this year.

I think its a combination of out-pricing themselves, a sub par lineup for FYF standards and the Sean Carlson sexual assault stuff coming out. It's also not the greatest venue for a festival with all the construction happening right now as well.
Europe has its share of mainstream fests too. The two can coexist. Let live nation handle the basics, Coachella can do its thing, and more boutique lineups will inevitably pop up. There are just way too many right now. I’m okay with live nation fests going straight radio though.
I don’t think it has anything to do with boutique vs mainstream but everything to do with lineup. You do not get anywhere near the same bang for your buck that you did last year. Though this year was still a decent lineup, last year was insane and the step down in quality with the scandal of the founder/talent buyer is enough to sink it
the scandal of the founder/talent buyer is enough to sink it
I mean.. Coachella is still happening every year and the owner has been publicly shamed for sponsoring anti-lgbt, racist and other hate groups.. for years. So I don't think that's one of the big reasons.

This lineup was still one of my favorites of the year. It obviously has more to do with the scandal than anything else, but this won’t be the last festival of this scale we see go. It’s just a matter of time. It’s a shame that the year fests try to focus on diversity they can’t find an audience to support it.

Frankly, the vast majority of festival/concert attendees really don't give a fuck about the man-woman ratio on stage, regardless of what all the think-pieces say.

Like, the fact that Janet Jackson went from one of the biggest artists in America to headlining cancelled festivals, while Justin Timberlake is still out there hustling reheated garbage legit bums me out.
