I'll say UCF wins, but by a TD or less. Enough to get to the New Year's 6, but not to the playoff.
This will be the fourth time in two seasons UCF has had to play Memphis. They had to rally in the second half to beat them by 1 in a monsoon earlier this year, and it took OT in AAC championship game last year to win. No team has come as close to beating them as Memphis. Both teams are built for shootouts (6th and 8th in scoring offense this season). Without Milton I don't think UCF can keep up.
I can't help but agree the sec has too many teams. Goes back to the conversation about name brand selling a team.
Also, going back to Texas, I don't see how they go from 14 to 9 in the AP and Coaches and don't move a single place in the playoff rankings.
I don't get why they moved up that much to begin with. Losses to two .500 teams and needed to recover an onside kick to preserve the win against a Kansas team whose coach just got fired.
The Washington teams should both be higher than UF and LSU, and definitely Penn State.
Also, actually @fortyfive33 now I think youre seriously overestimating how many Vols fans give a shiz about mizzou.

Have you seen Vols Twitter after our games
Have you seen vol twitter after any of our games? It's nothing personal against Mizzou, it's just the worst of our fans' self-loathing manifest.
For most rational Vols fans, Mizzou is still kinda just a game we have to play near the end of the season. Obviously I want to win, but I'm mostly indifferent about y'all existence.

This. Missouri hasn't been in the conference long enough for me to have real feelings about them. If anything, vitriol directed at Missouri this year was because of Dooley being there. As far as Vol twitter goes (and basically any team's twitter fanbase), the loudest people tend to be the most off base. We used to spend most Mondays talking a coworker off the edge because he would listen to local sports radio after the game Saturday, all day Sunday and Monday on the way to work. After being exposed to all those callers, he would come to work Monday with the most incredible ideas about how the program was doomed for all eternity to be 2-10 and/or how the opposition had cheated their way to victory.

People are getting hype behind them "playing well down the stretch" regardless of the Kansas game. You could also go back and cite the seven point win over Texas Tech whose coach also got fired. I think it's one of those cases where the victory over Oklahoma and only losing to West Virginia by 1 is overshadowing the losses and other close victories.

So if the disaster scenario happens and OSU and Oklahoma lose this weekend, you all are saying that Georgia gets in even with a loss to Bama? So that the top four is Bama, Clemson, Irish, Georgia, allowing for...a rematch of a game played a month ago?
I always thought a playoff was a bad idea until the BCS made it clear that it was a worse idea. And I'm still a playoff guy. But Bama/Georgia is a defacto playoff game. There's no need for both teams to get in.

It would suck but who else would you put in? They made sure it's not going to be Texas. Michigan? They blew their shot with that embarrassment.

The selection guidelines are the best teams with an emphasis on conference champs, not the best teams unless the committee determines that you already had your chance.

I'm not sure what that has to do with what we're talking about?

What’s confusing about it? The way the CFP is set up they should be selecting based on the merits of each individual team and picking the top 4, rather than selecting holistically based how the final four will look and taking into account whether a team has “had their chance.”
If OSU OU and Georgia all lose, Georgia shouldn’t lose extra ranking because they lost to Alabama and “had their chance”

Did you miss where I said the 4th team would be Georgia? Because who else could it be in that scenario? I was referring specifically to Michigan with the they had their chance and blew it comment. They're not getting in now after that game, sitting at home this weekend.

I think it comes down to loss quality. Georgia isn't a shoo in if they get hammered by Alabama and Oklahoma/Ohio State lose in overtime.
As JustKillingTime said the other day, let's focus on Notre Dame not having to worry about a conference championship and them being awful. I can admit Clemson isn't really facing a challenge this weekend, but key injuries can happen in any game and wreck someone's title shot.

My original comment wasn’t really in response to you. Lots of people are saying there shouldn’t be rematches in the CFP, but that’s not how the selection process is supposed to work.

Oh yea, ND getting a free pass is bullshit. They totally owned ACC in that arrangement they have. They're in the conference in everything except football. They play 5 games against the conference every year but don't have to play for a championship. Fuck ND.

Yea, I mean I would hate to see Bama-Uga after it just happened but that's what it would have to be. This is all hypothetical though, it's probably going to go exactly the way it's supposed to and they'll just have to decide between Oklahoma and Ohio St.

Notre Dame is in a tricky spot, more often than not, they'll need to go undefeated to get in. If they're 11-1, I'm not sure they're in the top 5 right now.
That being said, fuck em. I hope clemson beats them 70-0 in the first round.

Amen. Also related to this, if Clemson does end up playing ND this will be the 3rd year in a row Clemson has to play the team that didn't play in a conference championship game. It worked out well the first time 31-0 against Ohio St. Didn't work out as well against Bama last year. It really doesn't matter but it can be used in trivia.

crap - ny6 not looking likely for the nitts. we need OU to win the Big 12 but not make the playoff. if texas wins, texas gets the sugar bowl and OU gets an at large bid.
