Besides the lineup and schedule, to me this is one of their most important announcements. Here's to hoping the love is spread out!
i didn't go last year, and am not going this year, but i'd still love to see them not cram a shitload of good acts into Friday. I know sometimes with artist's tour scheduling it is what it is, but it helps so much with conflicts to have the love spread out, as you put it.

Agreed. I have to hand it to Bonnaroo, they did pretty good in 2017. I hope common sense is a continued theme in this year's schedule.
I'm really interested in seeing the schedule and what the set lengths are and how late shows go. This lineup, though not really that exciting, is a definite improvement over last year and a sign that maybe I shouldn't totally write off a return to the farm. But a milquetoast lineup AND short sets and only kalliope/barns LN doesn't do a whole lot for me. Umphreys LN last year gave me a bit of fomo when it was announced, but it seems like even that was shut down pretty early (relatively speaking).
Seeing as how almost every major festival has declined in quality this year, this lineup stacks up pretty well to me. It's so much deeper than stuff like Gov. Ball or Okeechobee. Plus the new barns all seem really interesting and could make for some great times, as long as it's not sacrificing more late night music. If only one of Eminem or The Killers was replaced with a more unique headliner like usual.

I’m definitely intrigued to see how each day stacks up next week, I’m super curious to see if any more info is given about the Bon Iver sets with that daily lineup.

Arctic Monkeys over the Killers would be a serious upgrade

I keep thinking they'll both be on the same day and he'll do a sort of: set 1 - 22,million and set 2 - scattered material. I'm not sure if I'd rather a scenario like that or 2 shows in 2 days.
As of now I'm still planning on applying to volunteer. I've blown my travel wad (lol) already for the year so that'd the only way I'll be able to pull this off. Anyone here ever go the volunteer route before ?

Yeah, it is more likely to be like the 2 sets for Dead & Co in 2016 than like what Phil and Friends did in 2008. They'll give him a long block of time and have the stage empty for like a half hour set break.

After seeing the Sasquatch leak, I'm so surprised Roo didn't snag Julien Baker. She's already doing a bunch of festivals and Tennessee is her home state. I'm still holding out hope she's one of the artist additions.

I volunteer pretty much every year, it's fun. Are you going to do During Show?

See mate I don't even know what that means haha. I'm assuming just during Friday-Sunday? I know you can go on Wednesday as well. I still need to do my research on it all

I can give you a quick rundown. Basically if it's your first time you have two options, During-Show or Post-Show. During Show you just sign up for and you get a free ticket (and camping pass). Post Show you have to pay a 300$ deposit, but you get your money back after the festival. If you do During Show they let you pick your top three artists, and they'll schedule you around those artists. You also have to show up on Tuesday to sign in. The "work" is pretty chill, and the volunteer community really adds to the experience. There's a really good Facebook group with more information and good moderators that'll answer any questions www.facebook.com/groups/581925741840980/ I've also done Pre-Show, Post-Show, and During-Show so I know what all three are like pretty well.

Don't you need a deposit for During Show as well? Or did they change that?

Imo, it’s gonna either be two sets on two separate days or they’ll play the Which in both the slot immediately before the headliner, and immediately after (i.e., late night). Bon Iver really aren’t the type of act to play what is essentially one long ass set. Their sets on the current tour have hardly been over an hour and 15 min. Also, AC hinted at their being something particularly special about at least one of the sets. No clue what that’d mean, but again it makes me think there will be a little more separation between the two sets than we saw from Dead & Co.

For Emma, Forever Ago in full for the 10th anniversary probably, if anything.

It's a reasonable guess that I also imagine will end up being the case. But, there's a couple reasons why that might not happen:
a) They're doing an official For Emma anniversary show this month, which is being advertised as a 'one-time concert'. I, of course, think that just might be based on the fact that it's the only event with the sole purpose of commemorating the album (especially since I'd imagine he does a For Emma set at Eaux Claires). But idk.
b) The record itself is incredibly short (less than 40 minutes). So idk how a For Emma in full set would go. But, the obvious counterargument to that is that he's obviously got some kind of approach planned, as they *are* doing an official anniversary show.
I suppose we'll see. Curious whether they'll hold off on announcing exactly what is special about one or both of the sets if there is indeed something special planned.

They'd just do an encore of more songs after. I've seen a few bands do full albums in longer sets and that's all they do.

There are a couple things that could happen with the daily lineups and the schedule that would make me much more interested in attending. Disclaimer: I expect none of the following to occur. This is more just a dream list of things I would do if I was running the fest and tour schedules permitted.
1. I'd really like to see Bon Iver listed on two separate days. I'm not sure why I even want this, but for some reason it would make me excited.
2. I'd like to see Thursday get more love than it has since 2015. I know Pond is supposedly on Saturday. That blows. I haven't woken up on Thursday morning since '15 feeling like "Fuck yeah, the music that I paid to see is happening today." Throw in a couple acts a little higher up + some of the good deeper acts. Give us a Thursday that includes Denzel Curry, Moses Sumney, Gogo Penguin, Alex Lahey, Duckwrth, Westside Gunn, Saro... then schedule it so we could actually see 5 of those and you have the best Thursday in a long, long time. Again, not expecting this to happen.
3. 1-3 sneaky decent to good ads. A move Coachella has used in the past. For the example below, I used Wolf Parade and Tycho.
4. Obviously don't stack everything on one day. Due to the lineup being about on the level of 2016 (maybe a little worse), I think I would actually use a strategy of just chalking up one day to a loss. Just make Saturday or Sunday absolute bullshit, stack Thursday the way I mentioned above, and make it to where the two other days are actually really strong. On the "bad day" I would just include some acts that are good live but probably aren't convincing Inforoo to attend the fest. You'd have a day to do more exploring and not worry about crowd positioning and what not at the shows. After all this, end up with a possible schedule of:
Friday: Daniel Caesar -> Thundercat -> Brockhampton -> Chromeo -> Sylvan Esso -> Anderson Paak -> Bon Iver normal set ---Em------> Jungle -> Rufus Du Sol or Superjam
Saturday: Mavis Staples -> Japanese Breakfast -> Pond -> Wolf Parade -> Broken Social Scene -> Bon Iver playing Emma in full ---> Muse ---> Nile Rodgers and Chic -> Tycho or STS9
Sunday: Durand Jones and the Indications -> Ikebe Shakedown -> St. Paul & the Broken Bones -> Trombone Shorty -> Grand Ole Opry -> Stugill Simpson or Future -> Killers
I guess this ended up being a "how to fix Bonnaroo 2018" fantasy exercise, but I would attend.

Tbh I'd say that all of the points you've listed are in the realm of possibility, though that might be me having too much faith in Roo. #1 and #2, to an extent, could easily happen. Omit either Westside Gunn + Conway or Duckwrth from your thursday breakdown, and put PPPP or Spafford in the place of GoGo, and I think that's a totally realistic day. Roo doesn't usually go the route of 'sneaky' adds, but I could see us getting at least a couple good ads (Skepta and Warpaint ads last year give me hope). And #4 is pretty much what I've been thinking would be the best way to go as well.
Only immediate problems I see with your schedule itself are Sturgill not playing Friday (i.e., his birthday, as he's said he'll play that day) and the Opry not being on the usual taping/broadcast day of Saturday. Also, you could probably replace RUFUS with Virtual Self on late night Friday, as I figure the Other will have Kaskade and VS closing Saturday/Sunday.

If I could choose one day to sacrifice in quality for the betterment of the other days, it would be Saturday. I'd want to be excited for Thursday and I'd want Friday to feel like the proper start to the weekend. But I wouldn't want to end on a lull (like how I felt in 2016).

I think what saved 2016 Sunday for me was pitting the Dead. Pretty much jumped in that line as soon as Isbell ended, waited through set breaks and an honestly pretty-satisfying DCFC set, and got to see the Dead from three rows back. The day definitely felt like a success and Roo ended with a bang for me, even though I'm not a huge Dead fan. Granted, I missed FJM and Ween, and the Ween part sucks for sure, but all of that stuff from way back may have ended up feeling kind of meh.
They probably don't have a headliner like that this year, but putting Muse on Sunday would at least give me my most-anticipated of the three and probably a really wild show from the pit.

I think 2016 Sunday was better in person than on paper.
Cymande -> Charles Bradley -> Father John Misty -> Death Cab -> Ween -> Dead
Cymande, CB, Ween and Dead were all great live as normal and FJM and Death Cab really exceeded my expectations.
