I didn't go the year the dead had 2 sets, what did that look like? I realize Bon Iver isn't headlining, but I wouldn't be surprised to find the two have similar structuring.
I think Anderson .Paak and Chic could both work for LN which. If Bon Iver is LN which, there’s really nobody that would make sense to pre-headline on What before Em.
I see it going something like Rag’n’Bone Man (4:00-5:15) -> Rebelution (6:15-7:30) -> Bon Iver (8:30-10:30) -> Eminem (11:30-1)
Maybe bump everything up 30 minutes though.
I go back to billing as to why .Paak & CHIC make less sense. They’re both billed lower than previous LN acts aside from EW&F (and they weren’t originally scheduled late night Which - got moved later on).
But then again, .Paak is also billed lower than typical What pre-HL acts. So idk.
Also, they stopped doing hour-15 sets aside from pre-HL acts. So that should fix that 30 mins for you lol.
Sure, they’re billed lower than most LN Which acts are but they’re definitely billed lower than any other Pre-HL on What (at least that I can ever remember. They’d be unusual for LN Which acts, but unprecedented for pre-headlining. Also, I put those early What acts as 1:15 because there’s only 4 What acts all day. This would be similar to how they scheduled the day when MMJ last pre-headlined in 15
I left the last 10-11 acts each day as that is the usual total of Miller/Who acts each day. Using last years schedule as a template it looks like there's room to add 4 more acts, 2 on Friday and 2 on Saturday.
Thurs Dreamers > Ron Gallo > Justin Jay > OPIUO > Elohim > Valentino Khan
Fri Bayonne (zero percent chance I'm up to make it to this set) > Manchester Orchestra > Tash Sultana > Chromeo > Rufus Du Sol > Paramore > Muse > Shiba San > Superjam > Virtual Self

Yeah like I said it doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense either way. I had looked whenever people were first discussing .Paak as a pre-headliner possibility, and the lowest booked pre-headline acts were in 2012. The Roots (14th) & Rodrigo y Gabriela (12th). Anderson .Paak is 14 (or 15 if you count BI as 2) this year. So, not completely unprecedented. Just uncommon. Both situations would probably seem odd.
I guess my thing with that is that you could easily shorten Rebelution & Rag N Bone man to an hour, then add a 2:30 act and it’d line up pretty similarly to how it was last year (music started as early as 2:15 on the What). Especially seems reasonable because Saturday has the same # of acts as there was last year. So you may need that extra slot in order for every act to have a place on the schedule. Though, I suppose either way would def be in the realm of possibility.

Totally forgot about the Roots in 12. Good catch. I skipped 16 and 17 so that’s probably why I’m putting more stock into how they schedule 2015 with MMJ. Ideally, I’ll be able to see all of Bon Iver, Paak, and Brockhampton (which I know is unlikely).
So Bon Iver subbing What, .Paak subbing Which, Chic on LN Which, and Brockhampton inevitably in a late night tent would be my best case scenario.

Unlikely, but a Sylvan Esso LN Which set would be really cool. But I'm thinking it'll be:
What: Nile Rodgers & CHIC -> Anderson .Paak -> Emimen
Which: Sylvan Esso --> Bon Iver (LN b2b)
Also, I've heard some negative things about Alt-J's festival sets, but I'm still a big fan of An Awesome Wave (which they still play almost the whole thing) so I really hope they don't conflict with Jungle on Sunday since I'd have to choose Jungle over them. I don't think they will cause I think Jungle should have a stage and not a tent this time. But at the same time it'd be a shame if they played during daylight.
I'll say the artist activities are neat. Holy Ship has them, and I left the ship regretting not participating in at least one. We had dinner next to the area where they did bingo with Mike B, and it sounded like a lot of fun.
Dirtybird Campout does a really good job with activities too.
Lines one and three are a wasteland for me, line two is pretty good, and there are some gems in the undercard that I'm afraid will mostly be late night and therefore mean many harsh conflicts.

Once you lay it out like that it seems that we should want the sets to be back to back. Having to deal with pre AND post headliner conflicts is brutal.

Yep.
FWIW, a reddit user (broobird) 'confirmed' that Bon Iver is scheduled for before and after Eminem on the Which. I take that with a grain of salt because, well, reddit.
But, they also weren't showy about it (just commented on my post - I don't think anyone even really noticed it), and allegedly dropped insider info about lineups in the past. I went to the users page and all previous comment history was wiped. But, they still had karma and there had also been posts with them tagged in it suggesting they had leaked legit info in the past.
So, who knows. I still think having them back to back all within a 2-hour slot makes the most sense. But idk. Roo does shit that doesn't make sense on the reg.

This. I wish the actual times would come out because late night this year could be brutal again (not too bad last year IMO)

So Bonnarooster just posted a link to a podcast where they confirmed there will not be a comedy/cinema tent this year. The comedians will be on stages, Trevor Noah and Amy Schumer will be two of the comedians. This makes sense because the comedy tent section has been taken out for volunteers but Bonnaroo is still advertising that they will have comedy. If I were to guess, I think they're making space for the Kalliope to come back. Not a huge fan of this decision, but there's at least still a cinema thing in one of the plazas.

Cool. Less shade and AC in Centeroo. Also, the thing that comedians liked about Bonnaroo was that the audience was contained and the sound bleed was mitigated. Yet another erosion of the festival in the name of EDM.
Muse streamed a 'by request' show from Paris today, with a few songs being voted for online during the show. If you're interested in seeing some rare songs and Muse in their best atmosphere I recommend it. Also they debuted Thought Contagion live (first song, starts around 7m mark). Sounds a ton better live.
If the BonnaRooster rumor he just posted ‘bout this year’s comedy stuff is true I will have to hunt down and find Ashley Capps. And beat him to within an inch of his life.
Spoiler alert the rumor is no Comedy Theatre at all and just “main stage” performances. He listed both Amun Schumer and Trevor Noah as rumored acts. I’d love to catch them both. But did it really take this long to realize that names with that high of a profile should not be in a maaaybe 2000-3000 person tent? Fuck you Bonnaroo, and super fuck you again fer the two-time Conan Debacle of 2010. Fuck you.
If we’re being totally honest, I don’t care too much about this comedy decision/removing the tent. I enjoyed some of the cinema stuff and the few comedy shows that I’ve caught, and yeah the AC was cool. But overall it seems like they’re going back to booking a few bigger names which seems like a positive. Also not restricting them to a relatively small tent audience seems like a good move to me. Just interested in seeing how they’re integrated into the schedule.
In the past, when comedians have been on stages, have they just played slots in between music acts? Or have they taken slots traditionally filled by music acts?
edit: also, thank god for no longer having to figure out/navigate the whole “ticket” situation for larger comedy acts

The only scheduled comedy set that was on a stage that I'm aware of was Chris Rock preheadlining What before Metallica. There were a fuckload of people there.
it's wild how quickly this thread goes back and forth from "wow that sounds awful" to "ok that's actually pretty cool" to "wow that sounds really awful"

I'm actually a fan of the the comedy change. I really wanted to see Aziz in 2012 and Tosh in 2013, and after sitting on line for an hour we got denied. At least now I know I can see Trevor Noah without wasting my day on a line.
Everything is funnier with the sun beating down on you and people talking loudly all around you about what show they're going to next and how fucked up they're going to get to later.
