I can’t believe the lack of discussion around here. I think that speaks the loudest. My rookie year, 2010, I found inforoo that February and I couldn’t keep up in the following months. Crazy 🤷🏻♂️
I’m with you, boo. Who are you most excited to see? Saturday is looking like my busiest day. Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso, Old Crow, Glitch Mob, Knox Fortune, The Regrettes, and Post Animal are all on my list for that day. I like First Aid Kit but they made me sleepy in 2015.
I’m also really pumped for T Pain, Japanese Breakfast, Tash Sultana, Alex Lahey, Broken Social Scene, St. Paul, & Jungle. And hopeful I can stay up for the Superam. Maybe it being on Friday this year will help? I have a bad track record.
Crap. I have been listening to Kali Uchis all morning and want to add her to the Saturday list. It’s gonna be a cluster.
I must be the only one who isn't that impressed by Tash Sultana. Lots of hype with little substance. I'd definitely check her out in the miller tent or something. She gets a lot of posts on reddit and facebook for a loop pedal musician with 4 tracks to her name (looks like she inked a publishing deal in December 2017, probably why). Looking forward to what she comes out with in the future though, she has a nice sound and it will be interesting to see how it progresses.
Her story is a typical industry redemption tale too. "Drug addiction" (eating mushrooms), "busking on the streets" (with her thousands of dollars worth of gear & a gopro), and playing guitar before she was potty trained. The things people write about up and coming artists is hilarious. I used to eat this shit up when I was younger. Now I'm just a jaded asshole who posts on dead internet forums.

Nah I'm with you. Once you get past the gimmick and story there really isn't a whole lot there imo.
I have a couple Australian friends who think she's lame as fuck, but I partially chalk that up to how fast she's blown up there.

I love her music but I've already mentally prepared myself for the likelihood that she'll conflict with someone else I really want to see. Hoping she comes out with Daniel Caesar, though.

I don't see how it's a gimmick though.
I will say I don't really care for her studio songs, but watching her live is enjoyable. She's not the best song-writer, but she's obviously super talented.
As someone who didn’t know of Tash Sultana or Kali Uchis before last week, I’m liking both of them a lot. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t jaded by any hype, so they feel more like finds because I had no expectations or impressions. I’m hoping they’re even better live—seems like the potential is there for both.
I don’t mind adversity stories. I feel like we all tell ourselves one at some point, especially when we’re younger. Then you get older and can more easily recognize and acknowledge whatever privilege you might have. The adversity they faced seems plenty real to me, but perhaps both had some amount of privilege which they may or may not recognize.
Coincidentally, I was reading this thread just as I was reading this article on Kali Uchis. Interesting intersections with this discussion:

Basically that. Her looping pedal thing is an easy cover for her lack of actually good songs. It makes songs seem more impressive than they are.
All this being said, I'd still probably see her if she was playing a fest I was going to. She's not awful, I just find her a bit mediocre. I like plenty of mediocre artists though

Most of her previous releases don't do much for me, but After the Storm is easily one of my favorite songs so far this year.

Went ahead and tried to put together a top 25. Got pretty difficult after about 17. I definitely haven't done nearly enough research, but that's because I'm not sure if I'll end up going.
My top 25 will definitely look very different in a couple months. I'm still getting into a lot of artists on the lineup. For example I'm starting to like Sturgill Simpson the more I listen to him every day. So he could end up being one of my most anticipated artists by the time Bonnaroo comes around.
1. Brockhampton 2. Bon Iver 3. Thundercat 4. Virtual Self 5. Anderson.Paak 6. Japanese Breakfast 7. Pond 8. Denzel Curry 9. Sturgill Simpson 10. Future 11. Chic & Nile Rodgers 12. Eminem 13. Rufus Du Sol 14. Kali Uchis 15. Machester Orchestra 16. T-Pain 17. Sheryl Crow 18. Daniel Caesar 19. Sylvan Esso 20. The Killers 21. Muse 22. Trombone Shorty 23. Knox Fortune 24. Moses Sumney 25. STS9

Tiers would be dicey for me, but basically it goes from high priority to low priority. I'm already anxious thinking about Saturday's schedule! Having to choose between Bon Iver, CHIC, & Brockhampton would really suck.

Anderson Paak should be in the must see portion of all these lists. I would even go so far to say he’s worth missing a Bon Iver set for. Awesome live, should have a bunch of new music by June.

I'm not thinking they'll conflict, but I'd skip trying for Bon Iver pit to catch .Paak for sure if that ends up being a problem.

i bet you'd be able to walk right into the Bon Iver pit if you show up 10 minutes or so before the set.

I'm interested to see the schedule. I'm anticipating that he'll be on the Which between Bon Iver & Eminem.... which makes it unlikely I'll see more than a small chunk of his set. Here's to hoping they put him late night Which or before Bon Iver on the What.
I had a hard time creating tiers--and getting to 25 acts in the first place. Once I broke it down by day, it made a lot more sense to me, and hopefully became more useful to everyone else here in the process.
We're skipping Thursday--and given the quality of the acts I've heard, it's a good year to skip Thursday--but here's the rest:
Friday Priorities: Japanese Breakfast, Rufus Du Sol, Tash Sultana Others: Chromeo, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, T-Pain, Bassnectar, Sheryl Crow
Saturday Priorities: Knox Fortune, Bon Iver, Kali Uchis, Chic, Post Animal Others: Old Crow Medicine Show, Sylvan Esso, Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals, Pond
Sunday Priorities: Broken Social Scene, Thundercat Others: Grand Ole Opry, Jungle, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, The Killers, Alt-J, Alex Lahey
My overall rankings are based primarily on my musical interest, but a few reflect how much fun I think I'll actually have at the show with my family and friends. I also still have to work through another 50% of the lineup, so bear all that in mind:
Overall Current Rankings 1. Broken Social Scene 2. Knox Fortune 3. Japanese Breakfast 4. Bon Iver 5. Rufus Du Sol 6. Kali Uchis 7. Chic 8. Post Animal 9. Tash Sultana 10. Grand Ole Opry 11. Old Crow Medicine Show 12. St. Paul & the Broken Bones 13. Alex Lahey 14. Thundercat 15. The Killers 16. T-Pain 17. Jungle 18. Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals 19. Sylvan Esso 20. Chromeo 21. Bassnectar 22. Alt-J 23. Sheryl Crow 24. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue 25. Pond

House of Yes/Little Cinema - Located in new barn in Pod 3, no new details
Tonalism - Pod 6, late night ambient music, barn is themed to events of the 50s and 60s - Artist lineup includes Jimmy Tamborello (Postal Service), Nanny Cantaloupe, Lucky Dragons, Hosesh, Ale, Farbod Kokali, Moon Diagrams, Zoraya, Aura T-09, and Lyonnais.

I think the new barns sound awesome. The House of Yes and Little Cinema seem like things I would pay to attend normally.
