For anyone there, awake, and into that sort of thing, bluegrass artist Becky Buller is apparently doing a show in the Jesus Tent at 10. She was just doing a FB Live thing.
There were 5-7 dancers on stage. A florida school shooting survivor gave a speech that was very emotional. Francis and the lights played a pretty big role. A rapper that I didn't recognize came out and did a couple songs. Sylvan esso sanf Flume and they did Coffee.
The stage set up was interesting. It looked like Justin and 4-5 others at any one time were standing around a table with various instruments. Was like a live look in at what all these guys would be doing if nobody was watchcing.
Band was tight and sounded great.
I don't think many of the songs were recognizable by most of the crowd. It was a unique set, but when I saw Bon Iver x2 on the lineup I was hoping for more than 15 songs from the main discography. Of those 15, 8 were from 22, a million. This was my first time seeing Bon Iver, so im a little salty about not seeing A significant amount of crucial songs given the billing and time allottment.
Sall good though. Yesterday was a fucking excellent day of music from Pond to STS9 and everything in between. Eminem actually being dope just elevated the day that much more.
No coverage, you say? Maybe we need CoS after all lol
That first Bon Iver set was pretty typical of a festival set by him, so you didn’t get short changed in that regard
Also looks like the rapper was Spank Rock
Given that the 2nd set was barely a Bon Iver set, I think it should have been billed differently and hosted in That Tent to keep expectations in check. I still would have attend "Bon Iver featuring TU dance," but I would have enjoyed it more knowing what it was going to be. He also ended early. Would have been nice to divide the time evenly and done 4 more BI songs.
Given the crowd size for Denzel Curry, BH would have had the ln which field flooded. Thats how it should have been initially scheduled imo, and I think Roo would agree in hindsight.
Lmao at people who are mad Bon Iver didn't play literally every single one of their songs.
Yeah his studio output is like 3 40 minute albums with blood bank being shorter than those.
I like Bon Iver songs more than Francis and the Lights, Sylvan Esso and unreleased Justin Vernon songs.
I don't think my expectations were too sky high to wish for more than 15 of his songs in 2.5 hours.
I still enjoyed the set as it was unique and something I'll never see again, but I'm going to stand by my instinct that I would have rather heard Bon Iver songs at a Bon Iver show.
Yeah they probably should've billed it as a super not a 2nd set, but I felt like there was already speculation. Take solace that you got a solid setlist on set one and everything looked and sounded great from what I saw online

Thats all Im saying. The first set was likely #1 of the weekend and I am an elated human this morning. I just can't deny the way I feel about the marketing of that set.
I saw that last night. I get the potential trauma but really it's not that uncommon a sound effect at shows.
It was different. It was pyro and it was much more powerful than a firework. So loud that it was too loud to be a gun shot. People waiting at the which thought it maybe have been a bomb or some shit.
Personally, I instantly knew it was part of the show, but it did trigger a train of thought where I invisioned my escape plan if a shooting occured. Then I went back to enjoying the show pretty quickly. Whatever. Shouldnt be a big deal.

A few things while I'm sitting in the car waiting for the storm to pass:
It is noticably crowded here. Just walking around centeroo is pretty tough
Did anybody see that freaking commercial that blasted on the main stage 10 seconds after Nile Rodgers ended? I have never seen the main stage crowd turn so quickly. CHIC played an amazing set, but that commercial left a real stink at the end. Though, It was pretty funny hearing the entire WHAT crowd boo in unison like that. Doubt they try to pull anything like that again.
Most people here already realized this but they screwed up the stage placements really bad this year. T PAIN on THAT was packed back to the merch tent while the revivalists played to 1/3 full WHICH. I honestly felt really bad for mavis staples. It was so hot on WHICH and nobody wanted to fight the heat, while Kali Uchis had an overflowing tent. I didn't go to sturgill but I was told it was the smallest preheadling since my group has been going (10+ years) while Khalid's WHICH set went all the way back to the miller lite lounge Sylvan esso had an overflowing tent while old crow had a small crowd on WHICH Pond had an overflowing THIS tent while Lewis capaldi played on WHICH to maybe 500 people. (Both were amazing)
They really need to add more bathrooms in centeroo.
Eminem was pretty good but they left that damn bright light by the Beer place on during 80% of his set. It was pretty distracting if you were on the left side.
I am still really annoyed that they didn't get a replacement for BROCKHAMPTON. I love STS9 but I don't see how extending their set time was a way to make up for the cancellation. They could have just done that anyway. it seems really lazy.
Having said that, there are some great improvements here. The barns are very cool and it's nice to have more to explore. I caught the secret cage the elephant set, which was awesome. Being able to see the capitals win the stanley cup here was a cool experience. I went to the red supper, which was pretty amazing. So. Much. Wine. Also saw Chance come out for Knox fortune. Saturday was one of my favorite festival days ever.
Favorites so far in no order: Anderson paak Jesse Reyes Superjam Muse Spafford CHIC Tash sultana Bon iver (set 2)

Was there, both sets were amazing. Got the intense, 22AM-focused set I wanted with set 1 and an unpredictable party in set 2. Only issue I had is that he ended 20 minutes early in set 2 but we still got more Bon Iver than almost any other act this weekend.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
I like that they seem to be doing more special/secret sets this year. That's definitely a step in the right direction.
I've always thought it was a cool thing/idea but it makes it infinitely more frustrating when you don't hear about it until after and it's a top act you're into.
Ended my night there and they were shredding. Similar to Trombone Shorty, I think this is a band that isn't appreciated on paper but everyone loves it live. Not a huge fan and didnt see enough to comment more than that.
The gun shot thing has always been dumb, it's either going to just sound fake and obnoxious or it could potentially scare your crowd, I don't really get it. Lil dicky was doing it while standing in front of a no guns sign and even if it was ironic it was lame.

Not surprising considering no legacy headliner this year that would draw in people inclined toward Mavis Staples and no BGS tent to draw people who would wamt to see Sturgill or OCMS.
Unfortunately, it probably means Roo doubles down on the pop and edm and kills the legacy acts completely, with the rare exception of bands like Chic that get a bump from collabs with new bands.
The Americana is probably on the way out too. I'm interested to see how the Opry is attended. The BGS Superjam was always really crowded, but it sounds like the Roo crowd is pretty different than even last year's.

2nd set was beautiful and unique for sure. Crowd around me was definitely a bit thrown off + kept talking (& I was in pit) which could have killed the vibe, but I was too locked in to really care.

Pond was fucking amazing. I like them a lot on record but seeing them live was something else. The singer is so funny and entertaining to watch. He also crowd surfed on me a couple times. At one point they had the David Guetta meme from when he was tripping balls at Tomorrowland as their backdrop and it worked so perfectly.
The Reggretes were a lot of fun. People were sort of hesitant to mosh at first, but then the singer said "So I haven't seen any moshpits and that's a little concerning" and then we got one going right away. They only played 25 minutes out of their 45 minute set which was a little dissapointing though.
I got a great view of Chic's set while waiting in the Anderson .Paak pit line. Not a lot of people there (especially on the left side) but everyone that was their was super into it.
The Anderson .Paak pit was the most fun I've had all weekend. I planned on leaving 15 minutes early for Bon Iver but I just couldn't bring myself to leave such a fun show. Someone also proposed in the pit and that was adorable.
I managed to work my way up the left side for Bon Iver's 1st set. I ended up getting in line for the second show and still had a great view of the first set. Bon Iver's second set from the pit was one of the best Bonnaroo shows I've ever seen. I see a lot of people have already posted about it so I won't go into details again. But yeah it was basically a Bon Iver Superjam on the Which Stage and I was very happy about that.
I'm taking it easy right now. Broken Social Scene > Daniel Ceaser > Thundercat then going home. I don't want to deal with the storm tomorrow morning.

I actually think the crowd is more balanced between the young college kids and older adults than it was last year. I figured it was because of a lot of the Country and Americana. Tyler Childers had a much bigger crowd than I expected.
