If Arroyo Seco is happening this year, at mininum the dates will be far later. I'm leaning towards "no". But Chicano Batman could be a coincidence, a few years ago Chance the Rapper kicked his tour off in San Diego the day after Coachella with no LA date at that time, and people thought he'd materialize but didn't.

I thought we would for sure see him replace Beyonce that year, he did make some appearances last year randomly (Cardi, Kyle)
My theory with the late-as-possible set times release is that it whips the fans up into a frenzy and creates more excitement/suspense/buzz than if they released set times a month or even two weeks before.

Without a doubt. This is definitely Coachella’s thing too. As soon as the festival’s over and presale is done, there won’t be a peep out of any Coachella social media until the lineup is dropped again in January.
It really fucking annoys me that Bonnaroo's settimes are released before Coachella's despite Bonnaroo still being 2 months away. Why does this happen?
It happens because Golden Voice doesn't give a shit that you're antsy for set times and there's no tangible benefit to them to announcing them earlier.
Yeah I get why they do it, it's just funny to me how no other festival(except Insomniac) thinks about releasing it the way Coachella does. Lolla releases their set times way earlier too I believe.

Either way, it'll put things in perspective when Coachella drops a stacked schedule and Bonnaroo parades a nearly unopposed headlining set from Post Malone.
What kind of illness can these people have? If they've already tested enough people that they can't find replacements, that means they've been sick at least a few days already, and they cancelled a performance a week from now. Assuming these were the session musicians from the album and they've been praciticing for a while, not sure how much prep they needed this final week. So a little bizarre - must be a reallll serious 'bug' to take all these band members out for +2 weeks...

The main downside to last minute set times is not having a lot of time to research acts during down periods. I'd love to have an extra week to do some focused discovery. I suppose that's a benefit of W2.

Boi you had three months to go through the lineup
And I have, but it's not like I've done a deep dive on 150+ artists. If there's a two hour chunk without anything on my to-see list, it'd be nice to have more than a couple days to circle around on them and see if anything sticks the second time.

This is very much what i use the Set Times Predictions for.
My Saturday was looking really weak with many set times gaps, focused my efforts there and discovered Turnover and Beach Fossils. Sunday now is looking weak but....not feeling motivated to explore lol.
Yeah I'd love to have more time to research acts, work out conflicts, etc. On the upside, getting the set times only a few days before leads to me spending the first few months of the year listening to, and liking, a lot of acts that I might otherwise never bother listening to because they're against a favorite. The downside of course is discovering an act I really like and then finding out a few days before the fest that I will pass on them because of conflicts.
It's funny to think that when I went the first time, in 2001, I didn't know the set times until I walked in the gate and got a booklet at the KROQ tent. Had to plan things on the fly.

The only thing I don't like about, say, not having an extra week is that is that there will inevitably be one or two hours where there will be nothing I particularly want to see and having a bit more time to pick out that one act would be nice. Otherwise, I mostly just want to know, man.
GV could help sell out all their side shows with fans trying to "solve" conflicts or deciding where they want to double dip. Especially true for the tens of thousands travelling from out of town.
It would also help them sell W2 passes.
BTW, a decade ago Tollett said they hold back the set times because he believes it helps attendees accidentally "discover" acts they don't know by wandering around aimlessly. I don't buy it and when I went 2009-2013 there were still tent audiences that were EMPTY when a band was playing. I remember a few evening tent sets where there were more band/crew/VIP in stage area than in the audience.

Early and late tents are empty all the time.
I was pretty shocked at how empty King Krule and The Drums were last year when they closed the Mojave. The Drums at FYF was one of the biggest and craziest audiences of the weekend a few years ago, funny how little the audiences overlap between FYF and Coachella.

The type of FYF festival goer that would go wild for Krule and the Drums was not gonna go to Coachella if the top lines were Weeknd/Beyonce/Em/ODESZA/Kygo/Tyler/HAIM/SZA. By doubling down and enlarging FYF, I honestly think GV cannibalized their own fanbase and now that FYF is dead, it's gonna be hard getting those 30K people back.
I was thinking the other day that part of the problem with Coachella 2017-2019 is keeping the outdoor and Sahara empty for headliners, and even shutting MoGo down sometimes. Like last year if they had Robert Plant, My Bloody Valentine, Nils Frahm, Pretenders, Seu Jorge, Against All Logic, The Breeders, Car Seat Headrest, and The Specials on Coachella's lineup instead of saving them to prop up FYF and Arroyo Seco, I think it would balance it all out quite a bit and draw the FYF fanbase to Coachella, and then actually have enough people to show up to the indie acts you DO book like St. Vincent or War on Drugs. And instead of so much rap in the Sahara, getting a few more EDM names on the bill to close out the Sahara on Sat and Sun. There was certainly room for 10-12 more acts last year given how much was closed for Em and Beyonce alone.
I get why they wanted to create all these different niche fests, but both FYF and Arroyo Seco are likely dead and now those potential attendees are going to have to be convinced to come back, and without very easy to grab EDM acts like ZHU, RL Grime, and Dog Blood, the ravers were going to go to Ultra and EDC.
I understand that to move 250K tickets they have to have huge popular names, but to keep FYF and EDC fans interested, you have to give them a value add too.
My Bloody Valentine, Nils Frahm, Against All Logic
Just give me these 3, I'll attend whatever festival, whenever, wherever, and pay anything.
Still attending this year but I can imagine there are some lookalike fans that would definitely be convinced to purchase by a relatively small # of FYF-type acts. Easy to say as a boardie but....
