Don’t worry, guys. These were lifted straight from the coach boards. We can now throw it around all year as a matter of act. God bless accurate, super secret chatter.
I’m only making fun because the Coach boardies say this stuff with smug certainty all year long and it’s exhausting as fuck.
To be fair, The Chainsmokers rumor mainly came from Reddit and the Depeche Mode was always toward the line of "it might happen."
The Chainsmokers rumor also came from a guy who correctly called The Weeknd when nobody else was really considering him. Depeche Mode came from some supposed mod post in their forum but I personally never saw it and couldn’t find it for confirmation. No screenshots either, it literally came from one boardie who said they saw it and nothing else so it probably should’ve been considered pretty weak to begin with since it had zero evidence.
JT has been a bucketlist headliner for PT & co for a while now, it was only a matter of time.

Only reason I don’t want Gambino is because I’m catching him at acl. But I’d rather see him twice than seeing Chance attempt to headline anymore fests.

The Chainsmokers reddit guy has credibility because he guessed one headliner? 50 people do that in the lineup contest every year and no one gives a shit.

Wasn’t The Weeknd like the easiest to predict? Lol
Umm no. If I remember correctly, most people had already ruled him out around that time or at least weren’t considering him at all. He may have gotten some incorrect info (or at least info that didn’t last long) but he didn’t pull it out of his ass, despite what boards say. Inforoo/Chella boards have a habit of trying to quickly shoot down anybody with info that isn’t their own and get upset when someone like CoS actually does the work to truly confirm info and publish it.

Why is Hannibal Buress on this?
Why not? He’s been popping up on non-comedy festival lineups so Coachella shouldn’t be a shock.

Who's they?
Hammett gave a radio interview about a year ago that not-so-subtly hinted they'd be playing Coachella soon. With the Beyonce stuff, it might have been delayed or something, but I feel like the two camps have been circling.
Speaking of which, I think you’ve got The Chemical Brothers way too low and I just don’t ever see them getting Dolly. She’s obviously better suited for Stagecoach if they ever booked her. Besides that there’s a lot on this mock I hope to see on the real lineup.
I do not look forward to hearing about JT for an entire year and him not end up on the lineup though. That Depeche Mode gossip was just too much and I didn’t even go last year.

GV, not Metallica. PT has booked several artists for other festivals who won’t ever play Coachella including LĪVE, Phil Lesh and Alanis Morissette. Just because they did Phish show on the polo fields doesn’t mean they’d do the same for Coachella.
Pearl Jam wants to play Coachella too but it’s not going to happen. I’ve only heard of GV’s disinterest of them playing Coachella ONCE but considering the other artists they abhor, I wouldn’t be surprised.

As far as Pearl Jam goes, the guys behind GV don’t like grunge which makes sense since they’ve never booked anybody for that genre. I’m guessing they lost interest in Metallica once they went commercial, same with Green Day.
I put them on my poster but I doubt Deftones ever get booked for a similar reason. They consider them too “nu-metal” even though Deftones try pretty hard to separate themselves from that label. They can be finicky like that.
They lost interest in Metallica and Green Day while promoting a festival at the Polo Fields led by Pearl Jam which set the course for the festival we are discussing.
I do think APC/Tool are like RATM in that they are respected by different audiences than the other butt-rockers. We’ve seen different projects from members of those bands play throughout the years. Deftones are basically in the same boat as Incubus who I just can’t see playing. Granted they might be a little cheaper so that could help. They did book Coheed and Cambria though. Even put them on the main. Edit: this was also 2010

When was the last time Coachella had a random comedian on the lineup?
Comedians of Comedy is the last (and perhaps only) time they’ve done it. They’ve also had spoken word sets like John Waters and Henry Rollins too. It’s been a while since those sets but I think a Hannibal Buress set in the Mojave would actually do pretty well today. He’s one of the few comedians who could pull it off.
