Regardless of the headliners, I'm still pretty sure this is gonna be the best NA lineup next year.
Nah. My faith in the lineup has gotten pretty shook. Last year's top 9 was pretty terrible outside of Beyonce, Timberlake is a huge mis-calculation, and Gambino does nothing for me (I told some friends this weekend he was a rumored headliner and people couldn't believe it - outside of us message board nerds and people who track stuff consistently, he's a surprising Coachella headliner).
Outside of a couple surprise interesting bookings, maybe getting Aphex, maybe getting a couple main stage rock shows (if we're not getting a headliner can we at least get Shakes? VW? YYYs? final National show of this tour?) my expectations are getting very low for next year. The kids have won.
The kids always win. I’ll be in the Yuma.
Edit: I sure as hell hope it’s not up to Alabama Shakes to save us all.

I don’t disagree with any of that and I still think Coachella had the best lineup of any of the major fests this year, except maybe ACL.

Everything is lined up perfectly for VW to sub. I’d be shocked to not see them on the lineup. New album basically done, they’ve already started to play live again, and they have had a minimum of 5 years between Coachella appearances. If PT fucks that up it’s one of the bigger misses I’ll have seen.

Facts. The only buzz out of Coachella 2018 was that Beyonce and Cardi B tore it down, that Odesza had a cool stage show (that they played a ton of other fests), and that Vince Staples called out R Kelly in an interview.

Facts. The only buzz out of Governor's Ball this year was that too many teenagers were fainting during Travis Scott's headlining set and every rock show was so under-attended a Noisey writer made a "Rock is Dead" thinkpiece centered around how bad his Gov Ball experience was.

lmao you arent wrong on that and Im not going around claiming that was fest of the year either.
I love the part of the year where we declare this festival dead over a handful of leaked acts.
Just need to get calibrated that 2018's lineup will kind of be "best case scenario" lineup going forward where pop acts dominate the top few slots on each day and hopefully there's a few gems (Jamiroquai, APC) and indie layups (St. V, WoD) in the second lines to make us happy.
I had faith after PT had his comments about not going away from rock headliners, you book who is available, etc., but it seems like they are still keeping the foot on the pop gas pedal now.
Well other than a Beyonce performance, Coachella did pretty much suck this year..
Coachella is still the only festival I’ve attended where I can say 20+ sets were great, and the same was true this year. I can’t think of any NA fest where I could’ve seen Beyoncé, Maceo Plex Live, Black Coffee, REZZ, Talaboman, Yaeji for her first major festival appearance, Chic with Nile Rodgers, The Black Madonna and then The Black Madonna b2b Jackmaster, Otoboke Beaver, Cardi B, ODESZA, Michael Mayer, Peggy Gou, etc.

Awful opinions. Talaboman is basically the second coming of Annie Lennox. Only I would argue he has already surpassed Lennox. He is unquestionably nothing but pure raw talent. Doesnt need to rely on production to have a live performance that shakes the earth with nothing but her voice. He is a legend in his prime, that people will be listening to and other artists will be inspired by for decades. Nothing "boring" about that and any festival that books him is lucky.
