All these positive reviews of the so-called "best festival of USA" and not a single one mentioned that Weezer subbing ruined the weekend. Bunch of GV plants.
I of course had a great time too. I can’t tag anyone but I’m glad I at least got to run into gibsonguy, katyperryofficial, and lastnameicecream, but mostly thank you to beebee and wufinancial and their significant others for putting up with me yelling out “We stan a ___” every five minutes. and of course shout out to stlallison for being the best camping partner I could ask for.
My two favorite sets were Aphex Twin and Perfume; others I really liked included Charlotte Gainsbourg, Yves Tumor, Jambinai, Javiera Mena, Four Tet b2b Four Tet, Little Simz, and Lizzo. I don’t think I saw anyone bad; Deep Dish and Blackpink were okay, Ariana Grande while a little underwhelming still brought out the #hits (though I would watch a full 90 minutes of beebee lip syncing Ariana songs while doing her perscription-sunglasses-into-regular-sunglasses reveal), and Cola Boyy’s sound mixing was super muddy but that was about it. The 90 minutes or so I saw of Sunday service was good but Kanye if you’re reading this you’re still on thin ice.
Other notes: -Having not been since 2015, the Sonora was an early afternoon godsend. It was also pretty full all the time. -The crowds were all very good too overall. Turns out the people who everyone loves to rag on for taking pictures all the time are....taking pictures all the time. -Postmates pickup, while a good idea in theory, was absolutely useless to me, especially since they did not serve late. I would have used it more probably if you could designate a pickup time instead of ordering only 15 minutes ahead. Also, I mostly just picked food based on what had the shortest lines anyway. -Hush Hush was very good. -The layout was very good. -The record store selections were very good (I ended up snagging first editions of The Replacements’ Let It Be and Tim and also maybe a first edition of Loveless? edit jk no it’s not) ]-The wind sucked. -Overall while I like camping I think if I go next year I’ll be more inclined to do a hotel.
On Thursday Allison told me how fast the time was going to go by and I said “Well, we experience the same 72 hours as everyone else on the planet” and now I’m a huge idiot because that flew by. I already miss it. I hope I can go next year.

2 things:
1. Anyone have any recordings of 29 palms in DoLab. I think it was him playing (got a small clip at 6 10pm), had one song I want to find but no luck
2. I will be going back next year and always thought about camping, but not sure I can get myself or friends to do it. I feel dead after one day and I do love having a bed to sleep on, private shower/bathroom, a stove, peace in morning, and more space.
But I also like the idea of being able to just walk 15 min to get inside, possibly meet some people, and just try something new
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

Did anyone have a bad time camping?
Camping sacrifices a lot of comfort for convenience and cost. The main advantages are how much cheaper/closer it is, with the caveat that if you're going with a big group of friends it's really fun to camp together. If you rely on the creature comforts, camping probably isn't the way to go; the showers and other amenities are much better than some people make them out to be, but they're nowhere near your own house.
Based on your description, I'd only recommend camping if: cost is a major factor, you have a big group of people who are enthusiastic about the idea, or you really really hate transit to and from the festival everyday.

Will keep in mind
I will have a group of 4 minimum next year (me included), up to 8 (had 7 last time). Cost isn't a major factor for me, I am also a 2 hour drive away so no flight or crazy long drive. I do hate how the shuttle takes like 40 minutes, plus waiting for it to come by and its even worse leaving. We left last night at 10 30 and it was super easy to get out the lot, no cars were really leaving in the general parking lot. I wonder if we can do that again next year, but not sure how busy they get if we wait until the end of the night.
I think I will have a tough time convincing about half the group to camp. But maybe I get everyone to go again next year in a hotel and see how everyone feels a year or 2 after about camping

Being able to walk into the fest and just walk home (especially after all the shows are over, don't have to leave anything early) is a hugely underrated advantage IMO, but with normal Coachella weather you'll be lucky to sleep past 7:30 or 8 in the morning. So it's a long weekend.
I saw him at the echo and he was amazing. W1 wasn’t good but he literally had no music lol. Just him and a keyboard
I honestly loved him W1.
I liked his set weekend 2, but I really like his music. If I didn’t, I don’t think I would be drawn in as it was pretty bare-bones.
On another topic, I wonder if anyone else was left a little disappointed by Gesaffelstein. Seems most were pretty happy with his set, but I thought it sort of tedious (boom-BAP, boom-BAP) with the admittedly cool sonics over that. Couldn’t embrace the mood and left after 30 minutes for Perfume which I absolutely loved (unexpectedly). I wasn’t expecting Gesa to be like 2015 (at which time I DID get enveloped by the mood). Not trolling, just curious if others felt the same.

Slept at like 2ish last night and got out of bed at 11 40 (but I am also dealing with a cold), so getting up that early worries me. Is it because the noise or the heat
Serpentwithfeet was terrible. Worst set of the weekend
W2?
I saw him at the echo and he was amazing. W1 wasn’t good but he literally had no music lol. Just him and a keyboard
Yeah it was him and a keyboard and occasionally dancers would come out. I also thought all of his songs sounded exactly the same. His lyrics were pretty terrible from what I paid attention to. Reminded me of catholic mass with insane vibrato and instrumentals that try way too hard to be arty
I can't even explain how glad I am that I went both weekends. But I guess I'll try.
Top 5 Weekend 2:
1. Childish Gambino - Being right on the center rail was actually incredible. I thought he was amazing Weekend 1, but he was actually perfect this time. I have to go to Outside Lands now so I can see him again.
2. Aphex Twin - I couldn't really get into it the first weekend, but on Saturday April 20th 2019, my brain was ripped out of my skull and trampled upon inside the Mojave tent, in the best way possible. This is the the main reason I'm so fucking glad I went to weekend 2 as well.
3. Gesaffelstein - Being on the front and center rail for this certainly didn't hurt, but this guy is a madman. It's so fucking awesome that he had those huge vantablack screen/curtain things on the sides of his lighting rig. This was another reason I had to go back again, and he was even better this time.
4. The Interrupters - Still made the top 5, these guys have so much energy live. I was really excited to hear that they pushed back the Outdoor set times (R.I.P. Christine's Mom), but it allowed me to also see FKJ (which was one of my biggest conflicts of the weekend vs Interrupters), but FKJ was kind of a snooze-fest, so I headed to the Outdoor early again. Was funny watching Jaden Smith and his crew of kids wearing hospital face masks jam out to them from the artist pit.
5. Calypso Rose - Missed her weekend 1, and some people in my crew told me that I missed out, and they were absolutely right. She is so damn adorable, and looks like she was just having a blast on that stage. It was one of the best day time dance parties I've ever been to at Coachella.
Honorable Mentions:
Cirez D - Maybe he played different stuff than last weekend, or maybe it's because I showed up an 50 minutes into his set, but his set seemed a lot better to than a lot of people made it out to be.
Perfume - Glad I got to see the last half of their set, because it was really fun. Their speech just before their last song was one of the cutest things I've ever heard in my life.
Polo & Pan - Love their set, love their music, but it was basically the exact same as weekend 1. Still great though.
Overall, weekend 2 is certainly a lot more "chill" than weekend 1, as it certainly feels like there are quite a few less people. The sound was generally a lot better for almost everything I saw as well. That said, still not so sure if I have to make the choice that I would do #2 over #1, if I'm being honest, mainly for the spoilers. Doing both allowed me to get much closer for certain things, and obviously see things I didn't get to before. I think I might be addicted to doing both weekends now......

If it's not one, it's the other. I'd say personally, the heat would wake me up between 6:45 and 7:45 in a normal year (this year W1 it was more like 8:30). Depending on your tolerance for noise, you could be unable to sleep past 7:45 or able to sleep until 9:30 (if you can hack the heat). If you stay til 1 every night, get W1 perfect weather, and have a decent tolerance for noise, you could sleep 8 hours. I'd say bank on 5-6 hours of sleep camping.
EDIT: also, stay out of Lot 8 if you're not fully prepared for the possibility of neighbors who never sleep and are loud about it

On this point - I watched the W2 stream and it was much better than W1. Still not my favorite stuff but unquestionably better

Had to have been feet from you at Gesa, what were you wearing?
i'm sure i'll share more later, but i'm still on vacation for one more day. just wanted to chime in and say as a 30+ lady who has been waiting a long time to have the time and money to attend this festival, it was completely worth the wait and energy i put into it.
I can't even explain how glad I am that I went both weekends. But I guess I'll try.

I was wearing black glasses, black H3H3 shirt and tan shorts.

Same as Beeb’s I’ll post more later. Aphex was amazing and I was impressed he played a more crowd friendly set for chella. Amazing when you can switch up the vibe from setting to setting the way he did. But I wanted the aggressive sets I had been seeing from recent shows he’s been doing. Gessa was a fucking blast and dancing with my best of friends at Parcels was a dream. Thank you to the folks I met. Again, I’ve gotten to meet a lot of cool people through here and I appreciate most of ya.
Posted this in the wrong thread so I’ll post here:
Went both weekends, weekend 2 is definitely less crowded but getting from Khruangbin to Diplo W2 was the second most crowded experience I had either weekend, to the point where we just called it and turned back towards anything else. The first was the path to the gates hell aka the Yellow Path Saturday W1.
Also Polo and Pan was the most fun I had. The crowd both weekends was A+.

Ha yes that Saturday yellow path was brutal. Didn't take a full step for what felt like an hour!
