My favorite at this point. But the whole album is unbelievable. He really out does himself every time. Like what a perfect blend of his previous work with such a warm and comfortable theme throughout. I haven't completely wrapped my head around it yet, but I think this could be my favorite album from him which is seriously saying something.

Maybe I’m the only one here who thinks this album is just okay. There’s some songs on here I really enjoy and some that I think are kind of meh. Maybe it’ll grow on me but this is my least favorite album of his so far.
I've learned with Bon Iver that it never clicks with me on a first listen. For a while I straight up just found them boring. Then I listened to BI,BI a few more times and fell in love with the lush instrumentation. I was super excited for 22AM but was a little disappointed when it first came out, but found it intriguing enough that I kept listening to it, and again fell in love with it. And it wasn't until afterwards that I revisit For Emma and came to really appreciate that as well.
On my first few listens to i,i, I'm finding that not much is really sticking in my head and a lot seems to blend together, but at this point I've come to expect that with Bon Iver. The magic is really in the nuance, the variation in production, the deciphering of the lyrics...and coming to appreciate that will take time. I will say that this has pushed me in the direction of absolutely wanting to see them when they come to Philly even though I just saw them in March, and unfortunately it looks like the venue is sold out. Hoping to not have to pay $70+ for it. We'll see.

Bon Iver at the Ryman in late 2017 was one of the best shows I've ever seen. No hyperbole. It was ear achingly gorgeous. I would love to have a soundboard of it.

Saw them at The Fox in ATL the next night. Still a top 3 show of all time for me.

Listened to the album once, really enjoyed it! Not sure I like it more than 22 A Million yet though, gotta give it more time. The song Salem was the highlight for me.
I wonder if Bon Iver and Blood Orange share any session musicians. The horns on some of these songs remind me of Blood Orange a lot.
So what do you guys think about the album? I think it's great though I'm still trying to fully wrap my head around it, there's so much going on this thing, even more I think than on 22, AM.

Best production by far and the mixing is exponentially better than 22, A Million. His singing isn't great at points but the songwriting is strong enough to where I don’t care. Easily his most interesting and forward thinking songwriting and production
Off my initial first few listens I enjoy 22 more. Still really enjoy this album though. way too early to really do a rankings but this is def a beautiful album and I can’t wait to hear these songs live with all the other classic bangerzzz

Good points Jaz- it takes a few listens (or more) to appreciate all that's going on in such complex music. You know it's a great album when you like it more on each successive listen, and then the deeper tracks start to get in your head...usually the middle of the night, for me.
We got tix for Philly when some better seats appeared at a lower price. Not cheap, but it'll be our first Bon Iver show ever. The new album should be fully "settled in" by that point, so I'm excited. Until then, JV gave us a little preview of what to expect:
