With 22, A Million there were certain tracks that took months to wrap my head around. Frankly I never was able to wrap my head around some of them and still don't like them today. I didn't get that sense with this album, it just felt easier on the ears than 22 did on the first listen through. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, because that might mean that it doesn't have as much room to grow on me, but who knows. I will say I don't know if i,i ever reaches the heights that 22, A Million did. That was the thing about 22 for me is that while some of it sounded like a jumbled mess, some of it was damn near perfect. As a whole I might like i,i better, but then again this was just the first listen, so that could change.
"We" really goes places. I was listening last night and it seemed like with every measure the music went somewhere new. Not sure I love the song overall but it felt pretty unique.
I think the live version will be on a whole other level
they played it at set two last year at Roo and it was powerful even without having ever heard it before. With the added impact of this new sound system they've apparently got in store, and also the benefit of actually being familiar with the song, I'm sure it'll be absolute magic.
Also, I started typing out something about how the run of Naeem->jelmore->faith is incredible but then I kept spreading out the boundaries of the stretch of songs until I literally reached the beginning and end of the album lol whoops. Still not sure where it ranks just because all of the records are special to me for their own reasons, but yeah I love this album.

Sooo interesting to seem him openly talk about his mental issues around 2016-17. I've known for a while that he had anxiety and stage fright issues but to hear it from himself..
edit: subjects Vernon and Lowe talk about; - his mental issues - the process that lead to them announcing an arena tour - his collaboration with Francis (& The Lights) Starlite - about collaborating with Kanye - about American politics/the border situation - the process behind naming his songs - Vernon on faith/religion - setlists

This is a fun watch that the New York Times put out a couple of days ago that tracks the writing/production of 'iMi'.
This is so ducking insane to me. Really great to see how many people were involved and talk about all of its incarnations. It’s such a wild song that goes all over the damn place in a beautiful way. Definitely took like 8 listens to begin to understand it.
Last night’s show in St. Paul was fucking incredible. This was by far the best show I’ve seen of them. The sound was by far the best arena audio I’ve ever heard, and the lighting system was also top notch. If you have a chance, seriously grab a ticket while you can.

Drove up/attending solo tonight (which is kind of a bummer), but the bright side is I'm on the front row of the lower bowl baby! Perfect view and I'm already getting amped. In a red IUPUI tshirt if anyone wants to say hey

Jags pride baby. You driving up from the luxurious Ball Residence?

I'm just here for my grad program, but I walk by there on the daily! Made some good friends, but sadly none cool enough to drive for an out-of-state concert on a Tuesday
Wow. My expectations were very high, but they managed to meet them and then some. My two favorite BI songs are Perth and Creeks, and we got hit with them back to back tonight. Absolutely beautiful.
The whole stage set up, with light show with moving mirrors, was the best I've seen at a concert this year. Their performance was mesmerizing, and the audience was totally locked-in. Only disappointment is that so many upper-level seats went unsold- maybe because they'd just played two Philly shows in March, or maybe folks are still unpacking and processing the new album.
This was my first live Bon Iver show, which naturally focused on i,i. I'd love to see them again, on the festival circuit in 2020, and hear more of their catalog. Sure glad we caught this tour, though- Justin went all-out as promised.
I'll be there! Just so everyone knows it's the state fair this weekend, and parking/traffic will be shit. Tickets prices for this have gone way down on stubhub the past few days if anyone is looking.
My mom saw Bon Iver on CBS this morning recently and when I saw her yesterday, she started telling me that she saw a band on the news that she thought I would like, they were called Bony Bear or something like that. She said the first song they played was really pretty but when she left the room and came back they were playing a song that sounded like "eeeh eeh eeeh", which you should interpret as the sound of a human impersonating a high-pitched washing machine. She didn't like that song that much.

She and I should hang. We are probably the same damn age. Or, I may be older than her. But I will teach her how to appreciate the high-pitched washing machine.
