Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
FWIW, I pretty much only go on this website for mafia and the festival threads.
The headliner thread has been such a shitshow for the past multiple years that I never read it. It’s complete garbage and useless. And as a result, I end up almost never reading meaningful discussion about the Roo lineup.
I know you are probably talking about meaningful pre-lineup drop discussion, but the 2018 Lineup Discussion Thread actually has some pretty good lineup/Bonnaroo 2018 discussion going on. It's mostly "hey check out this artist" and "daily lineups coming up" type of stuff, helpful and on-topic type posts.
I touched on this earlier but didn't really explain it outside of explaining how we justified trashing the headliner thread.
The flow of information used to work better when several other threads like Pre-lineup Undercard Discussion, Artist Definitely Not Playing Roo, Artist Direct Confirmation, etc. were more active. You could look at the original posts in some of those threads and get a good idea of what we knew. While those threads still exist and are kept updated(I think?) they aren't utilized as much anymore and the bulk of general Roo discussion is in the Headliner thread. We used to shy away from discussing the undercard too much in the Headliner thread, now it's just normal.
The OPs of these threads aren't to blame here. Part of it is a lot of the members don't care anymore, so the threads just arn't as active.
I'm not saying we need any rule or guidelines about this but these are the threads people would link to try and keep the headliner thread a little more focused.
This is the only change I can get behind. As far as all the other stuff goes, who cares?
Seriously, I'm realizing some people here care a bit too much
I've admitted to my fair share of trolling around over the years but I honestly don't care to try to read most festival threads anymore because they are such trash heaps. So I somewhat care but I don't consider my opinion all that important since I don't plan on attending the large majority of them anytime soon.
Having said that, this is a general discussion about making the board better. Some of us are looking at this from the perspective of new folks that might consider joining to discuss a variety of festivals. In that context, it makes sense to scrutinize faults the regulars here overlook or revel in. And I don't think anyone is wanting ironclad rules on this issue. Just trying to balance it out a little more.

I think that part of the problem is that it seems like they've really done an increasingly better job preventing leaks in recent years. Less concrete info or credible rumors to latch onto and discuss.

Yeah I get this. It's why I'm largely staying out of this whole discussion. I just personally enjoy the insanity of the headliner thread, even when it gets really stupid and boring. But if people want to change it, I don't really care. I probably just won't frequent it as much the same way I don't frequent the Hangout thread.

Ehh. Maybe for the last two years? Which kind of goes along with a lot of us caring less and less. But they've almost always keep the top lines safe, we just had Insider for a good number years. Then Launchpad and couple others later.
For the Undercard, less people care to go looking. I used to spend time gathering info... mostly to rule out undercard bands. I don't anymore. Lots of other regulars don't really do it either. We had a lot of folks the regularly asked bands while at shows too. That seems not to happen much anymore either.

I'd be fine keeping the Headliner thread as is. When I originally brought this up I jokingly said all off-topic stuff should go there. At least keep the tradition of letting it go batshit crazy close to the lineup drop. I guess it's only fair to change things across the board. I honestly don't think the Headliner thread is something that can be controlled by mortal men.
I agree. The Bonnaroo headliner thread should be allowed to get out of control sometimes. As long as the OP is kept up to date for those that just want the facts.
The other festival threads need to be kept more on track. And it’s going to be, in part, the thread runners job to keep it that way.
Festival thread naming. Correct name in the tittle? Some fun allowed? Retroactive?
IMO festival thread name must have the name of the festival, dates, and location. The first post of the thread should have the lineup once it's released. Any other rules seem like overkill to try to appease a handful of people. If individual users seem to be causing problems then the mods deal with them individually however the hell they feel like it because who cares.

Name of the festival in title. I don't think location or dates are necessary. Fun subtitles beyond that are OK as long as they don't obscure the topic of the thread.
I just want the OP to have the pertinent information about the fest such as dates, venue, lineup, etc.; and the thread title to clearly identify the damn festival. It’s not much to ask for.
The headliner thread can rot. It’s a shitpile anyway.

We would prefer it not say shitpile in the title. Even if it is one.

OK:
Bonnaroo 2019: Everyone in bed by midnight
Not OK:
Shitaroo 2019: Fuck Live Nation and Fuck You
I agree with this. When I did the recap thread, it was "2018 Recap: (then whatever bullshit I want to say)." You knew what the thread was. Also, I don't mind the dumpster fire bonnaroo thread, we have a recap thread for a reason. To allow the shit show and then for those that don't want to tread through waist-high shit but want to know information happening. I also agree that all pertinent information should be on the OP.
EDIT: Got busy at work, forgot my whole point. Hope this isn't too confusing.
One thing I've noticed is that the phrase "the person running the thread" mentioned a few times in here, and it keeps reminding me that unless the person is a mod, they have no control over what happens in the thread outside of their ability to change what's in the OP. I don't want people to think that them "running a thread" involves them having any power other than OP changes. I could see people thinking they're a mini-mod if they think they're running shit. You're not. You have responsibility and no power.
And while I'm personally in favor of the freewheeling bullshittery that occurs in the HL thread (lists, mocks, DRAKEDRAKEDRAKEs and all), I can definitely see how it could be a major deterrent to those new to the board. I think though that it serves a purpose in that it gives people a place to be ridiculous and shitpost; I'd rather have it happen there than in Random Thoughts. Especially if the OP is kept updated and towards the end we have a recap thread...eh let people post away. They need a place to let it all out.

I think some of the craziness in the headliner thread used to stem from the off-season, well before the lineups were even close to being released. Once rumors start and the headliners were confirmed I think we would sometimes close the "headliner speculation thread" and create a fresh "Headliner Discussion" thread. Think I've just been lazy this and last year. Does that sound right? Or if not....should we try that out? Let the craziness happen until the lineups are close/released.

Once the lineup is released the HL thread is locked and a lineup discussion thread is created. I'm not sure we need to close the HL thread when we reach "headliners unofficially confirmed" status. Even when there are legit scoops, people inevitably still want to dispute and discuss their veracity.

Yea, I was thinking after it's totally confirmed by the fest. That makes sense

There are only two things the Thread Owner should do. Name the festival thread appropriately and post the lineup on the first page when it comes out. Anything beyond that should be handled by the admins as needed.
