Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
The actual solution is to not pay attention when one person on the entire web site whines about how The Rules Aren't Being Followed With Regard To Festival Thread Creation
FRANKLY, if this forum is going to be more focused on music festival discussion in general, you need to ensure these threads aren’t a fucking joke.
For example, we can’t have people starting threads titled PANORAMA: NYC’S SHITPILE FESTIVAL and then the first post is “get excited for this failing festival, there will be plenty of open space to wook-out”
If someone can’t accept the responsibility of having basic information in he title and first post (date, time, venue, lineup, etc.) then the mods should just take over that thread.
I honestly don’t give a fuck who starts the thread. If launchpad was able to do those things, I’d be fine with him having the Panorama thread because I know he’s going to be posting garbage throughout regardless of who created the thread (unless the mods actually moderate him).
This applies to everyone else too tho. Horn’s 2018 Panorama thread is not sufficient. I open the thread and have no fucking clue what the lineup is. If your plan is to be an informational site, letting threads stay that way is not a good business plan.
It’s an issue for the entire forum frankly. Launchpad isn’t the only one who abdicates his thread-starter duties. You guys need to lay down the law on this because doing nothing is making the site worse.
Edit: apparently horn put up the lineup in Panorama 2018. But look at the threads for Newport, Peach, Mountain Jam, Gov Ball, Movement, Firefly, etc. Tons of neglected festival threads on here with little to no information about lineups that have been out, venue, dates, etc.

The plan is actually for this forum to shift focus to being a compendium of fast food reviews

I would once again like to point out that this is BS.
We have people who havent been to Roo for years and constantly mock it and its parent company, making threads that knock it. Somebody who has never been to Hangout made their thread and gave it titles disparaging it and its attendees for a solid year. Theres a Gov Ball thread below doing the same. And nobody spoke up or cared.
This is only an issue now, because of several users history of problems with me personally. Thats the only reason something so dumb is even being made a huge deal of. Nothing else.

You’re right. You’re not the only one who acts like a child around here.
Only one person is crying. The rest of us are looking for a resolution. I literally do not want the one Govball thread I started that has only been called Govball 19 since it’s inception. What’s annoying about this is it’s a really simple fix.
Edit: and one can easily just go look through my recent threads to verify

some people knock it because prices have become ridiculously expensive and people can’t afford to go for years on end. yeah some people like to crack badly written jokes about festivals, but a vast majority of people call it out for the degrading quality as their prices skyrocket through the roof

Looks like someone is making that late bid for TIN 2017.
Dr. Joe makes some very good points. Some of the festival threads have become jokes. Or are being used as inside jokes. That is something we want to stop.
Launchpad McQuack we have discussed on this forum and amongst the mods that we wanted to make some changes to this board. That is not something new. Having the threads run by members that care about the festival and will represent it in a good light is one of them. Sharing threads amongst the various members is another.
I was approached recently by someone that I respect and told that our board no longer represents it's initial mission. I know that mission has changed over time. We are no longer a Bonnaroo centric music forum. But I would like it to represent something good in the community where people can go and learn about music and how to maximize their fun and time at various music festivals. And to have fun and discuss burgers if we feel like it.
Please keep up the good ideas and bickering to a minimum. No need to make things personal or get into a name throwing contest.

Well I care about Panorama. I have been there two years in a row. I have offered people advice on where to stay and what spots to visit while attending. I have offered insight into the lineup prior to its release. I will be there again for a day this year. I hope next year they pull a lineup more suited to my liking so I can attend for all three days again. I made a thread that has a title with a light hearted joke using a quote from a member who claims he is unbias and cares about that festival as well. I do not see the issue there.
I fully support the decision to transition this board away from being Bonnaroo centric and into a festival catch all. Makes sense.
I would once again like to point out that this is BS.

Sorry to hear that. Have you considered using the payment plan? Or waiting until closer to the festival and buying off the secondary market? If you really want to attend, I can probably help you out finding affordable passes.

And this is what we want to change. People are going to knock the various festivals in the thread. We can't stop that. Or want to. But we would prefer that the threads be run by someone that goes to the festival, will run it responsibly, and keep it up to date. And obviously people cared, and now that this thread has given them the opportunity, they are speaking up. You feel like you are the target of this momentum. You are only one of many catalyst to a change we have been wanting to make for some time.
I am not on here as much anymore, but I will chime in. If someone has a so-called personal beef against a festival, they should not be making and being responsible for that festival thread. It's annoying and can put others off. I speak from experience. It's just that simple.
One of the things that made me grow to love this place were the many intellectual smart asses on here. Because to be honest, I absolutely love a good smart ass. But a troll. I can't fucking stand them. I found this definition of a troll online. Someone who actively watches a forum. Not to be confused with a lurker, or just a forum frequenter, the troll annoys, pesters, and generally insults any thread they open. And that's how I view what has happened here. One of the reasons I started staying away was opening my bookmark to recent threads and seeing one name over and over again. It gets old real quick. I know it has driven others away. And that's just sad.

We just liked the attention from Juggs. It was flattering.

The thing about trying to dole festival threads to people who know the festival the best is that these people aren’t necessarily the ones who are around the most. For instance blurfan is the person “most qualified” to run a thread about Lollapalooza, but he’s only around every few days or so because he manages to live a happy, well adjusted life. The thread starting tends to fall to whoever is around when the mood strikes to start talking about the next year’s fest, and because I tend to check in here every day, I’ve ended up with the last few iterations of the Lolla thread. That works better for some fests than others, but that generally works and it just doesn’t seem like the process needs to be “formalized” just because 2-3 people are clearly abusing it.
This thread is also highlighting that there’s a very fine line between, say, criticizing Bonnaroo in a Bonnaroo thread out of disappointment in the direction of the fest, or teasing the Hangout folks but doing it all in good fun, and trolling a festival thread because you have a grudge. You’re not gonna be able to make rules that define the difference between those, your just gonna have to trust your judgement.

Honestly, I think you can trace part of the problem back to the Roo Headliner thread. It used to be somewhat less of a dumpster fire up until 2012 or so. It became kind of a running joke to not care and go off topic in there because for months we had very little info and the thread was full of noobs and trolls anyway. Part of the reason it was acceptable is we had all available information readily available in other threads, so it because tradition to turn the headliner thread into a free-for-all. I'll take some blame for that. Lots of us should. The thing is that attitude slowly started to carry over to some of the other festival threads. Now it just seems like a lot of these threads are far too chaotic and devoid of actual discussion. Again, I've been guilty of it. I trolled the Firefly thread pretty hard a couple years ago.
What I'm getting at is if you are looking to reform the boards I think you should consider at least encouraging that these threads stay vaguely on topic. Point the bad joke makers and trolls back to the Roo Headliner thread where they belong.
I'd also encourage the OPs of future threads to find inspiration in my exemplary handling of past Roo Clue threads. Sometimes you just gotta curse people and let them know nobody likes them.
Seriously, should there be a limit on how many major festival threads one can run?
Personally, I don't think there should be a limit on how many major festival threads one can run, because then that is one more thing that has to be policed by mods. Also then we have to define major festival, and then ask if there is a limit on how many "minor" festival threads somebody can run, and so on. Gets complicated.
Instead I think there should be a general cultural shift at inforoo to emphasize that running a festival thread is a responsibility. Not a huge responsibility but a responsibility nonetheless. Keep the OP updated with lineup info, other useful information that is perhaps carried forward year over year, etc. And since some people have more time to dedicate to threads, they shouldn't be penalized if they want to take on the responsibility of multiple threads.
The question then becomes what if someone starts a thread and does a poor job of keeping up with it. Is it possible to moderate a thread to make someone else the OP? Is that a huge pain?
Also, while I can see both sides of the argument, I think generally speaking the subsequent year's festival thread shouldn't begin until the current year festival is complete.
Yeah when every thread is just another headliner thread, what's the point?
I personally wasn't trying to offend anyone with the parody account. It was always just mocking trends for me and never out of a silly grudge against the festival or company. I don't want to detour posters though (new or old). Gonna do my part to not clog up threads I have no business in.
