Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
it’s always sucked but reddit is the only other option so we’re all kinda stuck here
Haha damn you quoted me before I deleted it since I realized it wasn't really germane to the discussion at hand and I didn't want to throw more fuel on the fire.
Inforoo itself as a website is well-structured, well-modded, and has a lot of genuinely good people that are fun to interact with. But the overall ethos of the community is incessantly sarcastic and arrogant. It's tiring.
i respect you and your perspective, but i disagree with the bolded portion above. things get personal and aggressive sometimes and i do not like it when that happens (as illustrated ten minutes ago in this thread), but otherwise i see most sarcastic/arrogant posts as just joking around.
but if you and others feel that way i am all for trying to make inforoo a more pleasant place, but i also don't want us to stop playing around with each other.
The real issue is there is a "Launchpad vs 5-6 people on this board" that has hit critical mass. Quality Control and Improvement is always a good, welcome discussion, but it really isn't about "who starts what" thread.
Is LP entirely innocent? No, but neither are these 5 or 6 posters who, at any chance, on any thread, try to pester him into response, then hide under some veil of innocence. Other posters have noticed this and commented on "Why is there such hatred for LP from this select group of posters?"
I'll also add I think it may also be a power struggle since it appears LP is the only one w any knowledge of "scoops" around here these days. Take that fwiw.
Also, is there a way you can add MODS? Or create something slightly lower w not as much authority/power to help contain the madness.
Honestly we have not had much madness around here until lately. It looks like this thread has brought it to the forefront. Not the intention, but it never is.
I'm trying to not let this get personal and do something rash. So I'm going to go run some chores and see if the Red Cross wants my O neg blood. (had to brag)
Please keep it on topic. That topic is how to help the board and how to assign various festival threads in case anyone forgot.

This narrative of “it’s just 5-6 people who are annoyed by Launchpad” is bullshit, as is the idea it comes from a place of scoops jealousy. Like, the dude just attacked custeph who’s probably the nicest person on the board.
But to be clear, whatever the number of people who are sick of Launchpad’s nonsense, I am in fact one of them. I’m tired of every thread about every festival I’m interested in being filled with his shitposts, comments about knowing scoops he won’t disclose, and bickering with Emoney and Jones. I’m being very upfront about that. Some people don’t mind him! Good for you. But many other people do.

I don't know if we would need to generally change the tone of the place. Some people are willing and able to take all the abuse that can be thrown their way and find enjoyment in those interactions. Some don't. Both are acceptable viewpoints on their place in the board. I could see a more general focus on thinking about this when interacting with posters both old and new. A bit ago, Jaz said that he felt jokes about his taste level in music were getting a little too frequent. I have tried to cut down on those because that's a reasonable place to set a boundary with him. Newer posters ask what are to them innocent questions and the response received at times could be considered overwhelming for them.
Oh, you fucking asshole. You are without a doubt the worst. Say whatever you want, that’s what you do. Unfortunately, I don’t have my old PMs because I deleted my account in the midst of a mental breakdown. Yes, you told me the Bonnaroo headliners. And I was out eating dinner with friends and accidentally let a name slip. Told the group not to repeat that. Promised them. But then sang_xcx runs his big fucking month, after promising not to. Which led to a huge fucking fight. I felt horrible about what happened. I really did. I’d tell you to confirm that but I really don’t fucking care anymore. You are a plague to this place. You whine more than anyone I know. And I have three kids so I know all about whining. My “real issue” isn’t what transpired over 2 years ago. It’s you being the terrible, no good person you are.
And that’s the last time I will ever respond to you. I can fucking promise you that.
Sorry Druid . I had to say that my piece. I am done.
Yeah I am such an awful person that when a complete stranger came to me saying they were going through a rough time, I tried my best to help them out. Such a terrible no good person.
What makes you terrible is you have this inside info that you know that everyone wants and you constantly taunt people with it. You can't tell someone something like that and expect them not to tell their friends. Especially on a board like this where we all want this info. You must feel like you have some kind of power and you abuse it. In this case Steph told us because we were all together and we were asking. This created a conflict between Steph and I that I still regret. I came on here and posted a mock with some of the info you gave her and she got very upset with me. I wasn't trying to hurt her or gain anything by telling people. I was excited about it and wanted to share with other people that would be excited by it. It turned into something that it never should have been. I tell you one thing Steph is a great friend and I'd definitely rather have her here than you. Take your info teasing ass somewhere or keep it to yourself from now on.

I don’t think Launchpad actively taunts people. I get the sense that he wants to straight up leak info but can’t. Literally every time I get the glorious Music Midtown scoopz I wanna post them immediately but I understand the chain reaction it would cause so I try at least steer people for a bit.

I agree that it's usually just joking around, but when various posters just copy and paste posts from Reddit for the sole purpose of mocking them, it gets old. Some of the posts were ridiculous and deserved mockery, but several others were literally just people being excited about the lineup and going to Roo. I don't think it's cool to create an environment where we shit on people just for enjoying or being excited for something. There's a difference between criticizing Bonnaroo (which it deserves), and sarcastically saying "Love Roo." five hundred times.
I think it's telling that a lot of the outside criticism about Inforoo is that we're hostile and unwelcoming. I don't agree with that entirely, but that notion definitely didn't come from nowhere.
This narrative of “it’s just 5-6 people who are annoyed by Launchpad” is bullshit, as is the idea it comes from a place of scoops jealousy.
It might be slightly accurate to say there's a group of people who are annoyed by what you might, generously, call "bad posters". The confusion comes from the fact that there happens to be only one really aggressively bad poster these days. When you think about it, it's really a golden age for Inforoo in that regard

People here and generally have made it impossible for me to outright share info. Believe me if I could I would. The last time I did two blogs linked to the post.
Everytime i log on i have Pms from ppl asking me for info.
So what I do is offer hints or teases or tell people what I think. If that upsets you, tune me out, use the block button I dont care.

I honestly don't care. Just saying if I had to choose I'd rather have Steph posting here. Since you've started sharing this inside info that's all you ever contribute. Either that or shit talking fests that compete with your friends. It seems to me that this causes trouble for you and has also unnecessarily led to problems for others.
I think one thing that people miss in this conversation is that for people like Insider, Launchpad, or the few people who actually have scoops is that even though there are only 20 or so people who actively post in here at a given time, there are thousands of people who watch these threads for info and scoopz, and information filters out of here to many, many festival go-ers. I have no scoopz ever myself, but among my friends IRL they all know me as the dude who has festival scoops cause I read and post on here. Not considering the lurkers and the way information gets out into the conversation about how to make this forum a better place wont create a productive conversation
Why is insulting Bonnaroo even an issue? Why should someone get their feelings hurt when someone pokes fun at a multi million dollar company?
I think it's more the excessive nature of it that people feel is the issue.
I love Bonnaroo and think it’s a great festival but I find the dragging of it funny and a complete non issue. It’s not like someone is like “I like Bonnaroo and I can’t wait” and then someone else is “HEY FUCK YOU YOU SUCK GONTO COSCHELLA DJSJFKS”. The people that seem to be at issue are making fun of reddit tier people and that’s something we can all get behind.

I blocked Launchpad a long time ago. He adds nothing to the community. He's a brat. I'd encourage everyone to block him also.
As far as the festival threads go, I like the idea of someone creating and running the thread that actually goes to or has a history with the festival. The first post needs to be continually updated with information as it comes in (when the lineup drops, put the poster there. Seriously.). Don't know how to go about picking that person though. Have people message the mods for approval? Fill out an application? That one seems silly. I like the off-topic conversation, since that's mostly when I have anything to say. I also like when things get heated and I can post a popcorn gif because there's some real funny people on this forum.

Pretty sure everyone in this conversation understands this. Most of us personally know other sources and totally understand how information spreads out from here. I've also had this conversation in PMs with Launchpad.
I too encourage anyone who has an issue with me to use the block button.
That's great and all but you know that won't solve anything. People will quote you over and over. That's not your fault. Just saying that it's kind of empty to keep suggesting this when blocking you won't remove your presence from the thread.

I'm going back to the Top Chef thread now.
If you think LP adds nothing to the community, then thats also saying that scoops add nothing to the community, as the only person with reliable sources right now is him. I think thats shortsided regardless of anyones personal opinion of LP

Well then I must be missing something but people who are seriously considering perma-banning their most valid festival source on a festival message board seems to be really cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Some people don't give a shit. They are saying it in their posts. So yes, you're missing something.
Also, Launchpad isn't getting banned. That's kind of a moot point.

I feel there is a difference between the community and scoops.
