Having genuine, unmolested, discussions with the people on this board I’ve known for years is far more important to me then knowing that the Killers are headlining the Bumblefuck Fest a week before everyone else. Just like when I talk to my friends in the music industry, I don’t try to pry scoops out of them either, we talk about our wives and kids and shit, maybe what music we’re excited about. You know, like normal people.
Well then I must be missing something but people who are seriously considering perma-banning their most valid festival source on a festival message board seems to be really cutting off their nose to spite their face.
Some people don't give a shit. They are saying it in their posts. So yes, you're missing something.
again, this is my point. "Some people dont give a shit", unquestionably true of posters on this site. My point is that the entire festival community, *not just inforoo* is benefitted by these scoops, and that people are solely thinking of the posters on this site in this and not the greater festival community

I am completely thinking about this site in terms of this discussion. I don't much care if Inforoo is a main source of scoops. There is an endless array of places that scoops can be put out into the festival community.

So I should touch the poop so someone else can get the dollar?
I think it's more the excessive nature of it that people feel is the issue.
I love Bonnaroo and think it’s a great festival but I find the dragging of it funny and a complete non issue. It’s not like someone is like “I like Bonnaroo and I can’t wait” and then someone else is “HEY FUCK YOU YOU SUCK GONTO COSCHELLA DJSJFKS”. The people that seem to be at issue are making fun of reddit tier people and that’s something we can all get behind.
And that's the difference. You find it funny, I think it gets old after a while. Which is fine. You do see the condescension in saying "reddit tier people", though, right? Maybe people agree with that and again, that's fine, but for me personally, it's an unpleasant attitude to be around all the time, and I don't get behind it.

1. He's not getting banned. 2. His scoops aren't always that great. He's not The Lord of Scoops and has never claimed to be. 3. He's not the only source here. He's just the most vocal and interactive. 4. Who the fuck are you? Why should I give a shit what the greater festival community wants or needs? They don't offer shit to this place. We don't owe them anything.
I blocked Launchpad a long time ago. He adds nothing to the community. He's a brat. I'd encourage everyone to block him also.
As far as the festival threads go, I like the idea of someone creating and running the thread that actually goes to or has a history with the festival. The first post needs to be continually updated with information as it comes in (when the lineup drops, put the poster there. Seriously.). Don't know how to go about picking that person though. Have people message the mods for approval? Fill out an application? That one seems silly. I like the off-topic conversation, since that's mostly when I have anything to say. I also like when things get heated and I can post a popcorn gif because there's some real funny people on this forum.
I'm going back to the Top Chef thread now.
If you think LP adds nothing to the community, then thats also saying that scoops add nothing to the community, as the only person with reliable sources right now is him. I think thats shortsided regardless of anyones personal opinion of LP
If you like someone posting "I know the headliners, but I'm not telling" constantly, then that's cool. I don't. It's childish. It is attention seeking behavior that does not deserve to be rewarded.
I've been posting here long enough to develop the opinion that he just wants attention in any form he can get it. Definitely don't need people like that in my real life, don't want people like that in my internet life.
Hi. I was summoned here for some random reason. How the heck are y'all doing???
It isn't just the 5-6 people who attack him. It is also the people who read his posts and decide to stop visit the site (like me) or to never sign up and post. Most of us would rather just lurk or go away then take on his tiring act all the time when he has ZERO self-awareness. Just think about it like this, he keeps coming here because somehow this is a better reaction than he gets from people in his real life. How tremendously sad is that? Remember the 'you peaked in HS' texts he sent to girls he knew? The dude is hopeless.
Time for me to go back to my real life which is fucking amazing btw. To the cool people: If you're going to Primavera this year, hit a brother with a DM. I'll see the rest of you in hell.
i respect you and your perspective, but i disagree with the bolded portion above. things get personal and aggressive sometimes and i do not like it when that happens (as illustrated ten minutes ago in this thread), but otherwise i see most sarcastic/arrogant posts as just joking around.
but if you and others feel that way i am all for trying to make inforoo a more pleasant place, but i also don't want us to stop playing around with each other.
I don't know if we would need to generally change the tone of the place. Some people are willing and able to take all the abuse that can be thrown their way and find enjoyment in those interactions. Some don't. Both are acceptable viewpoints on their place in the board. I could see a more general focus on thinking about this when interacting with posters both old and new. A bit ago, Jaz said that he felt jokes about his taste level in music were getting a little too frequent. I have tried to cut down on those because that's a reasonable place to set a boundary with him. Newer posters ask what are to them innocent questions and the response received at times could be considered overwhelming for them.

I agree that it's usually just joking around, but when various posters just copy and paste posts from Reddit for the sole purpose of mocking them, it gets old. Some of the posts were ridiculous and deserved mockery, but several others were literally just people being excited about the lineup and going to Roo. I don't think it's cool to create an environment where we shit on people just for enjoying or being excited for something. There's a difference between criticizing Bonnaroo (which it deserves), and sarcastically saying "Love Roo." five hundred times.
I think it's telling that a lot of the outside criticism about Inforoo is that we're hostile and unwelcoming. I don't agree with that entirely, but that notion definitely didn't come from nowhere.
Sure, we definitely take jokes around here too far sometimes. And when jokes tray too far into "mean" territory (just shitting on happy but otherwise rational reddit tier people, etc.) it does become unfunny. But having said that, one of my favorite maxims is "if nobody is giving you shit nobody loves you". Friends are supposed to rip on each other a bit. Occasionally this goes to far, and Jaz handled that situation perfectly when the music taste jokes got too much for him. But I wholeheartedly agree it's not fun to just shit on happy people for kicks (although if you disagree with their musical tastes it is completely OK to kindly introduce them to better music. none of us started out in life with impeccable music taste, we all had mentors or guides of some kind).
I've opined on this before because I've been posting on online message boards since the days of dial-up BBS's in the early 90s, but any good message board requires a balance of kindness and discipline. We can't let a poster like drakebythelake (not "ating" because I don't want to draw his/her attention) terrorize a thread with his/her terrible opinions. He/she was probably a troll, but lets say he/she was just a normal person who truly thinks Bonnaroo 2018 is adding two headliners. We CANNOT let ideas like that go unchallenged. You can start by gently pointing out that it probably won't happen, but when that poster insists it could it is our responsibility to turn up the heat and shut that shit down. That may require some stronger language than was initially used to drive the point home, especially if somebody is being an asshat about it.
Maybe the above isn't the best example, and I know what I'm about to say is dramatic, but a good community requires strong personalities with a gift for communication that are willing to stand up for the facts against the naive or ignorant. Otherwise the naive or ignorant people will overrun the asylum, and before you know it inforoo is filled with posts about Bon Iver playing a six hour sunrise set, the possibility of Eminem sitting in with Muse, and thinly veiled and grammatically incorrect requests for xan bars on the farm.
Or we could not change our behavior at all and just change our banner to read "Hostile and Unwelcoming For Over a Decade".

One only has to touch the poop if they lose a bet, we havent made a bet yet

There is no purpose in telling others that you know information that you can't share.
I don't really have a solution for the thread control. I think common sense and some maturity would solve everything, but we all know this isn't the place for that.
I only offer the most sound advice this board has offered all year: let go and move on

very cool to be cursed at for being more empathetic on this board than others seem to someone on this board that can be an asshole at times. Ill just go back to the festival threads and mind my own business
Everyone offers something. And we should care what the festival community thinks of us. I want to hear what everyone thinks. New posters, old posters, and posters that have left. Keep it respectful please.
I'll also add I think it may also be a power struggle since it appears LP is the only one w any knowledge of "scoops" around here these days. Take that fwiw.
I think this is where you're mistaken. No one is in any stupid fucking struggle for power. No one cares that he "gets scoops". No one cares about AEG v Livenation. What I am concerned is when he's so smug in that knowledge that he's a dick to literally one of the nicest people on this board (or goes around in a thread talking shit about something he really has no idea about which ultimately devalues the conversation). It's fine that you guys are on his side, but you really aren't helping matters by constantly defending him. Dude has had his fair share of problems outside of the few posters I assume you're alluding to.

Jesus people. Hit the block button, tune me out if you want. This isnt hard. You have somebody else in this thread who dislikes me telling you she did that and is happier for it. Do it, be happy. Im not going anywhere and not giving you scoops that you feel entitled to is not a bannable offense.
