In defense of Alt-J. I've seen them twice now, once subbing for Foo Fighters at Rock Werchter which was just awful because they a) had to restart 3 songs again because they started wrong b) they opened for the Foo's aka, the pit was filled with rock fans lol and c) it was their biggest (festival)show to date (I think? They played for around 60k ppl) and were nervous as fuck. I was so dissappointed in the band for playing so bad. But only a week later (not even that), I had the chance to see them again in Portugal at NOS Alive. And they smashed it! They played for around 15/20k people by sunset, everyone in the crowd was singing along with every song of theirs. It was a pure blessing to witness a band playing like that with such an amazing crowd etc. I think that show made it even in my top 8 or something in my yearlist of best concerts/shows of last year.
Bottom line, they're not boring. They're amazing. They have great songs to sing and dance to. Their light show is cool asf and reminds me a bit of Sigur Ros's set up.
