anyone know what the re-sale value is like on this fest? I have no idea if I'll be able to make it but I'd buy now if the secondary market normally gets high
Last year, high $200s/low $300s for week 1. I think weekend 2 was upper mid $200s. Obviously it’s fluid day to day as people for different reasons offload tickets on the secondary market.
I also agree with thisishappening that the comparison isn’t really there. Both are great festivals but are completely different animals. It’s fair to rank one over the other, but the caveat is there are more differences than similarities imho.
They are comparable in that they are multi-day festivals that book some similar acts and are both within driving from my house.
I bought a day ticket a for less than $30 a couple of years back (that was for Mumford/LCD day though). I would imagine the Metallica/Macca days keep a high value.

Secondary market was great that year. I paid $50 to see radiohead weekend 1.

Yes I was going to head out to see that LCD show on the Sunday of the second weekend (I lived in Houston at the time). The prices bottomed out and I wanted to purchase but wasn't sure with my work schedule. When it was clear I could go they had spiked back up to like $90 a day or two before. I'd say there will always be people looking to dump the tickets - especially weekend 2.
I got people on my twitter feed that i went to school with who absolutely hate this lineup for some reason and think its by far the worst one. Theyre using the 2015 and 2017 lineups as examples of when ACL was great. Then i come here, reddit and fb and everyone loves it. Twitter is weird.

Just realized that David Byrne opening for Paul McCartney is realistic and the closest thing to ever seeing Talking Heads open for The Beatles.
Reminds me of that time I saw The Smiths open for The Beatles at Coachella in 2009. (aka Morrissey->Paul McCartney; bonus: Johnny Marr was there the next day playing with Paul Weller)

To be fair the undercard isn’t all that deep imo. I can see where they are coming from. There’s some big names there, but even those could be hit or miss based on taste. I think this lineup just looks more impressive this year because everyone else’s top lines look so bad. I’m pumped for Metallica/Macca, but not much else tbh.
Edit: acts outside of top 10 I’d be excited for - Byrne, Justice, Vincent, Brockhampton, Jungle, The Breeders, Parquet Courts, Khruangbin*, Rhye*, Shame*, Cuco, and Ikebe Shakedown. Most of the undercard is just meh to me.

There's at least one artist per line (except the bottom 5) that I'd be fairly excited to see. I'd call that pretty deep.

Some of comparable line-ups are also much more expensive.
The only downside to me are the cheesy pop performers Cabello/Mendes. Those spots should've been taken by two of Tyler the Creator/Phoenix/Vince Staples/MGMT/etc.
Also it's weird to me that Deftones are a weekend 1 exclusive even though there's not a weekend 2 counterpart nearly as big as them. (Ex. Cabello/Mendes, Van Fleet/Lily Allen, Van Etten/Trampled By Turtles, Khruangbin/Rhye, etc)

I’m okay with some pop as counter programming because I count 30+ acts I’d want to see. If it makes a smaller crowd for those acts, I’m all for it.
Lived in Austin for 4 years now, and this will be my 7th ACL. I will be making a video and posting it soon on the ins and outs of Austin that you should hit up when here. Plus, I have a Party Bus Co. that specializes in planning Austin outings for groups coming into town to SEE Austin, but not really know what to do. Hit me up if interested.

They generally have an act like that, and yeah it's a nice separation and it's one less conflict to worry about.

See for me I’m not really interested in anything on the bottom 14 lines outside of Shame - thus my desire for day passes. This lineup is fine, I can just see why people don’t like it.

FWIW, I don't think the people complaining on Twitter are looking that deep into the lineup. Almost everyone that's complained has also heralded 2015 as the gold standard and specifically noted Drake, A$AP, Future, & The Weeknd. Basically, I think this has more to do with the general lack of acts from the mainstream hip-hop scene in comparison to other recent years. Last year had Jay, Chance, & Cube at the top. Ferg, Russ, DRAM, Skepta (not to mention RTJ + Danny Brown, though idk how 'mainstream' they are). Similarly, 2016 had Kendrick, Q, LL Cool J, Tory Lanez, among others.
This year has Gambino & Travis Scott at the top. But it doesn't go much deeper than that. BROCKHAMPTON's the only other name up high, and idk if they even necessarily appease that same crowd begging for a repeat of Rocky into Drake. Idk if people are that familiar with Residente, and after that you have to go all the way down to Noname, then Smino, then way down to Topaz Jones. And again, I don't know that those names really serve as big draws. Even a Vince inclusion may have not done all that much for them. They're probably looking for J Cole, The Weeknd, Post, Tyler, maybe someone in the lower card like Kyle. Those types of acts.

So, what weekend is everyone considering? I made a list for myself of each weekend's exclusives that I am currently interested in seeing and Weekend One takes the win with a big assist from Shame. Molly Burch and TX Gentlemen will be sweet too. Weekend two crowds have always seemed smaller when I've done that, but 1 is the plan for now.
Weekend One Camilia Cabello Greta Van Fleet Sharon Van Etten Khruangbin Shame Topaz Jones The Weather Station Molly Burch Sailor Poon The Texas Gentlemen Lisa Loeb
Weekend Two Trampled By Turtles Marian Hill Rhye Moses Sumney Thunderpussy Phil Cook Charley Crockett Nicole Atkins
