I remember Pearl Jam playing past it, and apologizing to the neighbors. Cue Teenage Wasteland.
And the chair army line is roughest when the crowd is backed all the way to it - that's bad enough. Willie Nelson's crowd was one of the most jammed I ever seen.
The pulled the plug on Robert Smith. Straight up, 10pm. It was a big deal.
They cut off the fucking ALCS in the beer tent after all the acts were over. It wasn't even loud.
The chairs just bother me because it makes exiting the middle a nightmare, when they're all linked together and the people get uppity about you needing to make it through, emergency or not, that's when it's shitty. outside of that it's fine.
Are the chairs really that bad? Also, what is the curfew?
They aren’t that bad. Jazz Fest started doing it a few years ago and it made a noticeable improvement because the chair zones are usually at a point behind a pathway behind the pit. So if you are in the standing section, you don’t have to deal with assholes bitching about you trying to get to the bar or bathroom over their blankets and tarps. There, they won’t let you sit between sets unless you are in the sit down areas.
Last year was the first time I’d been to ACL since 2013, and I thought the overall flow of the layout was better than it was and the chair zones at least corral out people into designated areas so they aren’t in your way. And alternatively, if you want to sit down or hang in the back on a chair or on the grass, there is space for that.

The Cure & Lauryn Hill (during FFF) got caught off immediately at 10pm. I suppose it depends on who is working the sound booth, and how hard the eyes are on them from the fire marshall or whoever actually enforces this.
Willie's crowd was insane. I was flanking on the left along the bathrooms I gave up by the 3rd song.
A couple NM friends are going, so I think the bf and I are coming back for weekend 2! First year doing 4 festivals! My bank account is going to hurt, but I can’t pass up that top 7!

Only went last year (weekend 1), but I never felt the chairs were in the way. It’s definitely an amazing festival, can’t speak of where it’d rank in the grand slam of American festivals but as far as major city fests I’d have a hard time believing there’s a better one of its size, all things considered.
Can’t swing it again this year but I’d sure love to get the full experience, the trip to the strip club and the after effects limited our time actually in the festival. We enjoyed crashing the UT frat parties after the festival every night though.
I would legitimately like a pro/con list if anyone feels so inclined.
It’s mostly pro, but you will have to overcome some challenges. The main ones are lodging and transportation. Staying in austin is expensive during ACL if you don’t have friends there or people to go in with. And getting out after the festival can be difficult if you don’t have a bike or aren’t within a mile or two of one of the entrances. There are shuttles and Uber areas and shit, but that usually gets hit for a while if you stay for the full headlining set that you choose. And if you try to wing an Uber or cab, it’s a roll of the dice. Also, where you get to the fest be prepared to walk about a half mile or so to the entrance. Weather in Texas in October is also variable. The two years we went, one year got Sunday rained out and last year was very hot and dry. So you’ll want to plan accordingly with sunscreen, raincoat, shoes and shit if there are any situations.
Beyond that, lines aren’t terrible for bathrooms or bars. And if you eat off times, you won’t run into many lines. Some of the music areas can get super packed. In particular, there is a canopy tent where Bonobo played last year that you couldn’t get in if you didn’t post up early for a given set. But otherwise, it’s easy to get around and the sound and production is excellent. The way they split the eating area to that meadow across the street along with having that other semi-major stage where black angels played gives you more room overall and helps keep the crowds spread around. The main stages are sort of on the opposite ends of the festival, and it’s not a far walk back to back unless you get caught in a moving crowd.
I would legitimately like a pro/con list if anyone feels so inclined.
If you come to Texas for a fest, pick day for night.
It's definitely on my agenda, but ACL is so stacked. If I just do this and one day of Firefly, I'll see just about everyone I want to see from this festival season.
What an awesome lineup. Hip hop is a little light for my tastes but man, top to bottom that's awesome. Also, people need to start putting more respect on Camila Cabello's name

I had no idea who Camila Cabello was until today when I looked her up and learned that she sings that Havana song that plays at my gym three times an hour.

You will have a TON of conflicts. I’ve been to ACL eleven times and day for night once and still it’s no contest for me.
The conflicts can be pretty brutal, but Coachella, OSL, Lolla have the same issues. The most brutal on I've dealt with has been Beck and Outkast, everything else hasnt been too big a deal, but that's where a Bino/AM one would get people.

One of the great things about Voodoo in NOLA is I go to ACL, skip the conflicts that will be at Voodoo and it all works out. I saw Beck at ACL and Outkast at Voodoo. I think we ended up catching the way end of Outkast also since Beck ended a little before.

Comparing a fest with 20k daily attendance versus 75k attendance is kind of silly. No one one is disputing Day for Night is a great fest, but people are going to ACL for McCartney who will likely not be making a guest appearance.
anyone know what the re-sale value is like on this fest? I have no idea if I'll be able to make it but I'd buy now if the secondary market normally gets high

Went last year for the first time and this fest is awesome. I just wish it was extended from 10pm to 12pm. Not enough night time slots. Basically just the headliners are shows in the dark.
Tips- Don't plan on staying for the headliner if you buy late night tickets.
