Looks like they come back with a major tour/release every 4-5 years - which is similar to Metallica's workload. They should have just had them open up on the main in that Deftones spot. They would have made for a rad opener for Metallica.
That's a tough choice, but if I've never seen either I would prob choose Metallica. Gotta experience that Ecstasy of Gold intro live and stick around for the long haul.

The right choice was Deftones all along. If it got a proper amount of time, it would have easily been a Top 3 set at this year's ACL. Giving them only 60 minutes compresses that and means it's going to have to be particularly great to be at that level. But they got it correct.
Livestream Schedule has been partially released. You can watch on the app or directly at redbull.com (choose live events, ACL Fest and then the channel you want to watch at any given time). They don't have the breakdown by channel yet, and they have a lot of slots they still need to fill. It looks like they will be running 3 simultaneous channels at least Saturday and Sunday. Also, as always, this is subject to change. Inevitably, Red Bull will add more sets (including mid and upper card stuff) and some sets will change. Also, I believe all times are in CDT, so you'll need to adjust for where you are. Some of the biggest headliners may only be shown for a brief 15 minute view. This won't be the case with Arctic Monkeys or Travis Scott, but it's likely to be for Metallica and possibly Paul McCartney. Stay tuned for a full schedule. I'll try to get it up once it's released further.

Plans finally solidified for ACL weekend 1! Couple of items for which I am requesting guidance:
1. I will be solo, but have an extra GA wristband to sell if anyone needs one.
2. Parking? - It has been 8 years since my last ACL (which Phoenix also played incidentally, HUGE add for me). I remember shuttles and taxis being a total CF, so believe I have decided to rent a car (will easily be sober enough to drive). Does anyone know the parking situation? Walking a mile for me is zero issue compared to waiting hours for another option. I will arrive by 1:30 at at absolute latest each day (likely earlier). And there is zero chance I leave before Macca or Metallica end to beat crowds
Flight lands at 10:00 Friday morning, still hoping to make it in time for Nam/Coronas/Topaz Jones (the other 2 look interesting as well).
3. Last minute Gryffin late night ticket (Friday) - think I would be able to pick up a ticket to the sold out show out front at Vulcan Gas company? I will have been up since 3am by that point. While I will stay up until dawn at most camping festivals, city fests late night shows have always been a letdown (at like Ultra, Electric Zoo, Hangout). Would rather make a gametime decision, but I can just pick up a ticket off Stubhub now if needed. I am catching ALL of The National (even though I've seen them twice in the past year), so will miss most of Gryffin's festival set.
4. Meetup - Looking forward to meeting more of you (currently only know Esteban). Worth catching Sir Sly closing with '&run', then I am going to bounce between David Byrne and Golden Dawn Arkestra. Just saw Byrne in the Spring and he is doing the same setlist everywhere, plus have seen him at a few festivals over the years. GDA would be a first and new experiences typically win. But hoping to catch 'This must be the place (naive melody)' > Once in a Lifetime in the middle, and 'Burning down the house' at the end. But all depends on how GDA is.
And just some senseless blathering to close things out since that is what I do:-)
Friday is a day for the record books overall. American Express stage alone is simply nuts that day. Such a heartbreaking conflict between Odesza and Macca. Even though I will see Odesza at Voodoo in a few weeks, they were the best set of Firefly this year. And have gotten better and better the 6 times I've seen them over the past 2 years. 'Line of Sight' was my personal song of the year last year. Macca was absolutely legendary at Roo, probably the best headliner I have ever seen even though I'm not much of a Beatles fan (with 80k people singing all the words to all the songs). But it just didn't do nearly as much at Firefly the following year. Gametime decision as to which I open with, likely depends on where I end up just before (Hozier is surprisingly impressive live, Brockhampton and FJM haven't done anything for me live thus far but may try again depending on how the wind blows).
Will FINALLY cross Deftones and Justice off the list. Metallica is always great (4 times), but dance music will typically win for me. If late night shows turn out to be a good idea, I may skip San Holo for CHVRCHES (again) and Nelly (novelty?). But San Holo has been a blast every time I've seen him, especially at Firefly this year.
Phoenix is my headliner Sunday, what an add. I'll likely drop in on Revolution just because I never got to see Prince and have seen Phoenix so many times (like 10, including last Fall in DC). But their Coachella headlining set was just so good, they are better at festivals. It is a huge mistake to miss 'Rome' or '1901' towards the end, couple of the all time greats. And 'Love is like a Sunset' is magical on its own if they play it. Illenium has really grown into a dance pre-headliner over the past 2 years as well. Didn't really like him my first 3 times, but has had fantastic releases and great sets since. I will probably close things out in the silent disco. Arctic Monkeys were ok the first time I saw them at Firefly a few years back. But they were unbelievably boring on the webcasts I watched and at Firefly this year. And Travis Scott has done nothing for me the 3 or 4 times I've caught parts at festivals. Crowd is carnage to watch, but I'd much rather be dancing and participating.
All in all the scheduling worked out poorly for my tastes. Possibly the lineup of the year on Poster. Especially if you could hand pick between weekend 1 and weekend 2 (missing Sasha Sloan, Trampled by Turtles, and Disturbed in particular). But I have near constant 3 and 4 way conflicts of acts I would really like to see, followed by 2 and 3 way conflicts of acts that I have middle interest in seeing, then repeating.
I haven’t tried them yet. I’ll probably bust my ass whenever I do. My kids had Razor type scooters and some of the neighborhood had the sit on ones you could go like 25 or so on, and I rode that shit like a go cart - as fast as it goes at all times. Transportation around ACL is always a pain in the ass, so any solutions like scooters are good for moving people. Bikes too when possible. ————————- I’m blowing out tomorrow around 7pm and hopefully we will be in town by around 2/2:15. Usually it’s like dawn and my ass would be kicked so it will be good to get a night’s sleep in before Friday. I gotta work on packing so I don’t have to fuck with that after work tomorrow.

Sitting at The Elephant Room now. The scooters are out in force, scooting along with all the traffic in the middle of 6th Street and weaving thru the pedestrians on the sidewalks. Bartender here told me she saw a lady with a baby strapped to her frontside on one.
Re: Parking. The one year I drove we parked at the bank at the corner of Barton Springs / S 1st. I forget how much parking was (maybe $20? I feel like that’s what most of the lots were?) but it’s not a terrible walk and if you don’t feel like doing it or are running late there are TONS of pedicabs going along Barton Springs during ACL. If you get there early enough you can also park in the Auditorium Shores garage which is slightly closer than the bank (though not by much). There’s also a school near by that does parking and the money from it goes towards the school’s band. EAP would prob know more about that as I think she’s the one who I went with that parked there? I don’t remember. Depending on where you’re staying you can also Uber in (obviously) as there’s designated drop off points pretty close to the entrance for Uber/Lyft & cabs.
Also, I’m suuuuuuper salty that Paul isn’t streaming until Sunday evening CST. It’ll be 9:30am Monday morning here when he’s streaming, which means I’ll be at work. 😡
anyways, even though I'm not going, I'm bored so this is where I'd be this weekend:
Fri: lovelytheband > Gang of Youths > Noname > David Byrne > The National > Sir Paul (I’d camp out for a good spot at the AmEx stage for Paul after David Byrne, but if it was any other headliner I’d do Byrne > Jungle or Manchester Orchestra > The National > BROCKHAMPTON > Sir Paul)
Sat: Blood Orange > Deftones > Nelly > Justice > end of Metallica I guess… (wow, what a light day. ACL always has one day that’s pretty terrible for my tastes)
Sun: Twin Shadow > Bahamas or Parquet Courts > Janelle Monae > Houndmouth > Phoenix ? Camila Cabello > Shakey Graves > Arctic Monkeys > end of Travis Scott
someone from weekend 1 needs to report back if they take the shuttle.
last year was a HUGE downgrade on getting onto them post-fest from previous years (it was still reallly easy and chill getting to the fest), so I'm interested to see if they go back to the old 1 line system or if they're going to keep whatever the fuck they were going for last year.
the added/more specific uber pick up spots makes me think those are going to be more blocked off so it might be kind of hard to "back door" it and uber somewhere close to the creek. also that uber drop off at wallingwood drive is over a mile away, idk that doesn't really seem worth it.

I’m skeptical they might just stream a potion of the set since he’s #1 HL. However, I think they repeat Sunday 2-3 times as well before shutting it down. If you pulll it up on a phone at work or your cpu, you can always see the channel and what shows are coming up.
Saw on the ACL insta story the AMEX stage now has huge video screens like Lolla has. Saw on another insta post that the Honda stage unfortunately doesn't.

I work for an Australian entertainment ticketing company, so if I ask real nice they may let me put it up on the TV. Lol. We played Bey’s Coach performance once, so it’s at least worth asking.
