I can’t believe they streamed the whole thing. I thought for sure it’d just be like the first 20-30 mins. I teared up just watching it. so wish I could’ve been there. I love him.
That made for a great, very distracted morning at work. I think my co-workers hate me. 😂😂
I know Travis Scott isn't the most loved person on this sub. But this set is getting me pretty hype behind the computer screen.
It’s texas and close to home. What’s odd is the crowd is not really representative of any other set you would have seen there. Maybe SMINO because that was high schoolers but on a much smaller scale We are mostly watching Monkeys which is where I would have been, but I’ve seen Travis a few times and vouch for the punk rock ethos of his shows.
Missed it. Hannah gave top set to GVF who she would have thrown articles of clothing at. Sal gave it to Janelle with the afro-future reference but could have gone McCartney. Janelles set looked cool but I had to run to the store and missed most of it. 3 weeks.

Another awesome day. Started with Elle king, who was very solid. Great band and sound. Decided to pick up cans and bottles for the free shirt after that. I quite enjoyed what I saw of Janelle Monae (Saw her do a headline show back in July too). Next was Rezz, who I really enjoyed. I was getting down the whole time. I may get burned for this, but her set made me wish the fest had more EDM.
Checked out The Revolution from there. I was surprised how packed they were considering Phoenix was on. It was a fun and dance-y time though. Went for Illenium after that. I appreciated the live band and the visuals for sure, but was not getting into his set as much as I was for Rezz. He was still solid overall.
Now Arctic Monkeys though. Holy hell, these guys were just phenomenal. I hadn't seen them since Bonnaroo 2014, and they sounded so much better tonight than back then. The energy and sound were on-point, and I also dug all of the new album stuff. Was also happy to see so many Favorite Worst Nightmare songs. Teddy Picker, Do Me a Favour, and especially 505 were all highlights. Only bummer with them: how did they not play Flourescent Adolescent?? Crazy as it seems though, they were honestly my favorite of the weekend:
Ranking from best to worst:
1. Arctic Monkeys 2. Metallica 3. Paul McCartney 4. Brandi Carlile 5. Rezz 6. The Wombats 7. The Revolution 8. Deftones 9. Elle King 10. Jungle 11. Illenium 12. Khalid 13. Hozier 14. Børns 15. Japanese Breakfast
Kept it pretty easy again today after only really catching Metallica yesterday. I saw Parquet Courts, Khruangbin, and Phoenix. And I dragged my friend to the end of Camila Cabello because I like, um, her music?
All three of the full sets I saw were fantastic, but I've gotta give it up to Khruangbin. They continue to expand their sound and they put on a fucking awesome show. Love a band from Houston rocking a crowd like that. Didn't hurt that it was in a tent, either. Weather was actually pretty decent today, relatively.
Camila definitely shouted out Dallas a couple times, as though she thought she was in Dallas. Pretty fucking insane. She's just my pretend girlfriend and not my real one, so I won't try to defend it.
Actually, you know what, they're working this woman too hard. If she can't remember she's playing in Austin at a festival called Austin City Limits, she needs a break.
Great weekend overall. So glad I went. Catching Paul and Metallica as soon and as often as I can see them again. Two all-timer shows. If I could do it all over again next weekend, I absolutely would.
And for good measure, I will leave you with THE best set of the weekend..
Great festival - third time for me after 2013 and 2015.
Top sets: Friday 1. Paul McCartney - no explanation needed 2. National - one of my faves, pretty standard setlist but ’Graceless’ killed 3. Big Thief - much more impressed with them live than studio. Enjoyed her guitar work - very jagged and jarring at points 4. Alvvays - awesome power pop 5. Manchester Orchestra - though the sun was really rough during this set
Saturday 1. Justice - kept missing this show this tour but finally saw it in full. Phenomenal. Would’ve seen Metallica but just saw at OSL, and caught beginning and end 2. Wombats - love this band 3. Brandi Carlile- emotional set and wow - that ‘Babe I’m gonna leave you’ cover was great. Was not expecting that. 4. Chvrches- was not really a fan but really was a good set. May need to rethink my fandom. Only saw them cause I left Deftones due to sound issue 5. Naked Giants - love that ACL books these little bands
Sunday 1. Parquet Courts- one of my favorites, got a great spot, and they delivered. ‘One man, no city’ jam was on 2. Arctic Monkeys - helps that I really like the new album and the crowd by me was into it too 3. Shame - great energy and attitude and they have the songs as well 4. Phoenix - watched first half then left for the Revolution. Massive, good crowd and highly entertaining show 5. Revolution- saw last 20 minutes and man that was great. Hated that they conflicted

Yeah! We managed to get pretty close for Paul and still had a little place to sit down and hang out when we felt like it. She definitely had fun with all the songs, both Wings and Beatles. Of course she knew them all better than I did.
It’s hard not to have a good time at ACL. It’s an excellent festival with many of the industru’s Biggest names. I thought it had the the best lineup of major US Festivals this year, so we made it happen. At least even money I’ll go back next year.
No. It was brutal only because of how radiant it was - 90 and bright a lot of the time. And that was the afternoon. In the six o’clock hour it gets better so you have to make do at some of the stages until then. They need to install more shade stuff since the trees are mostly on the perimeter and here and there. But he’s being a pussy (but I still love you c). I found ways to deal with it between sunscreen, sleeves, an umbrella, water and occasionally having to sit on the sidelines but it’s very manageable.
Last night at Austin before I go back to real life. It’s been a fun vacation with lots of music and I’m so glad to listen to so much music I’ve been wanting to hear for a while. No festivals until Coachella ‘19, which I’m looking forward to. Unless I can make it to Big Ears.
Firstly, cons: The weather. I don’t like humidity. Not much else to say. Oh also the scooters. I hate them. I think that’s it.
Pros: FOOD!!! Everything I ate (both in and outside of the festival) was fantastic. If I ever come back to Austin, it’ll be because of the food.
Music: I’ve seen many sets, and 3 aftershows. Glad to hear music from Prince, The Beatles and Talking Heads in some form. Here are my top 5:
1. David Byrne: This was amazing. If only I hadn’t felt dizzy because of the heat. I wanted to dance more. It was also great to finally meet esteban and Jake Jortles!
2. Janelle Monáe: First time seeing her. Such an empowering set!
3. St. Vincent: She’s a goddess.
4. Mon Laferte: Surprise of the weekend for me. I had so so much fun. Will listen to her albums more frequently from now on.
5. Sharon Van Etten: First live show with a full band in many years. New songs sounded great. Can’t wait to hear the new album. Early AOTM contender for next January.
Other memorable sets: Shame, Natalie Prass, Ravyn Lenae, Parquet Courts, Japanese Breakfast and Brockhampton. Sad to miss Blood Orange, Brandi Carlile and Shakey Graves. Hopefully another time.
And now that I’ve been to all “Big 4”, I can safely say I like the production better for Coachella and Bonnaroo. Main stages at those two fests are beast. Just a small note.
Sunday's weather compared to the others had a nice, sunny mist to it at one point around 3 pm when i got off my final volunteering shift. Went to Parquet Courts first. They rocked. Havent seen them live in 4 years. Khruangbin was next. First time seeing them live. Fuckin loved every second of them. The medley (David McCallum/Isley Bro's/Michael McDonald/Leon Haywood/Kool & The Gang/Rick James) was incredible. Saw some Rezz after them, she was cooler than i expected. The "Killing In The Name Of" remix was awesome. Had to leave to get a good spot for Phoenix. This was my first time seeing them. About time, as they were probably one of the best shows. Those songs sound waayy better live than in studio. Such a tight band. Very high energy too. It was their last show of this tour, but i already cant wait for their next one. The singer crowdsurfed over next to us at the end of the show, which made for some great flicks. Camped for AM. They're one of my favorite bands, and this was my 6th time seeing them but first since ACL 2013. The first time i saw them was on the same stage but in 2007 around 4 pm. Their growth and evolution as a band has been a journey that's seemed to fly by through the years. This show was damn good. The new songs were chill, sort of a mix of The Nude Party and Father John Misty. The old stuff sounded strong as well, just would've liked to hear another or 2 off WPSIATWIN. Also heard Twin Shadow, Amber Mark, Yungblud, and Lemaitre from a distance.
Top sets of my weekend: 1) Paul McCartney (One of the best shows of my life. Top 5 for sure. Still can't believe how close up we got for such a prestigious production) 2) Phoenix 3) Khruangbin 4) David Byrne 5) Metallica 6) Arctic Monkeys 7) Parquet Courts 8) Rezz 9) The National 10) Amber Mark/Natalie Prass (what i listened to while on my vol shift i liked a lot and definitely want to catch these badass chicks live when i can really focus on their set instead of filling up people's water bottles someday)
But yeeahh that caps off my 10th ACL. C3 should push it back to mid to late-October for cooler weather.
The humidity was the real problem, but Texas in general stays pretty hot through October. Next weekend is supposed start with 80 degree highs on Friday. Fingers crossed that forecast keeps.
