Clairo doing a residency at Webster Hall: 9/14, 9/15, 9/17, 9/18, 9/19
I'm genuinely curious as to what's going on, here. When I first put out a question about this, folks' response was that it's when MSG and Barclays have a lot of open time, which does make sense for arena shows. But this is across the spectrum of venues, at this point. It's not like it's weather-related, since the majority of what's being announced is at indoor venues.
So, why is almost every artist choosing September to route through the area? Seems like a losing proposition since competition for people's concert dollars is going to be fierce.
11/28 Raveonettes (Copenhagen, Denmark) 12/4 Interpol 12/14 LCD Soundsystem 12/31 Billy Joel 1/25 The Killers (Las Vegas) 2/12 Jack White 2/25 Father John Misty 3/6 Inhaler 4/10 Franz Ferdinand 4/17 Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds 5/15 Amyl & the Sniffers 5/18 Fontaines D.C. 9/1 Oasis
Some non-September show announcements (finally). Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats at MSG on 3/27
This could just be my general dislike for his music talking, but this feels like a. stretch to me unless I am wildly misjudging Nathaniel Rateliff's popularity.

Probably a slight reach but, hey, if Wallows is headlining there this band definitely can.

Fair, but I just went to the Ticketmaster page for Wallows at MSG and filtered just for standard tickets, leaving out preferred and resale...and I don't have the energy right now to take and post a screenshot, but there are what looks like literally hundreds of available seats in the lower bowl, and the 200s are almost all currently available seats.
So, yeah, I don't know if Wallows really can headline there.

on a similar note, IDLES at forest hills appears to be woefully undersold. what do y’all think is driving these stretch venue plays right now? might be for another or its own thread but i’m asking here anyway

It's a good question about probably a lot of factors. There's likely a combined effort by promoters, managers, labels, etc to keep fostering arena/shed acts so they don't go extinct in 10-15 years. Added to that, and this is speculation, maybe there are still profits to be made by underselling arena shows if you can sell enough concessions/parking. There does seem to be an odd trend, post-pandemic, of a lot of acts stepping into rooms too big (remember Sylvan Esso attempted to headline Forest Hills?)
I also think we're starting to see a bubble burst as it pertains to big arena shows and prices. The Black Keys and Jennifer Lopez recently full on cancelled tours. Also thinking that, outside of major markets, that Charli XCX/Troye Sivan tour is going to be in trouble.

Here in DC, I was able to get Girl in Red tix for less than $15 each. The upcoming Lizzy McAlpine and Mitski shows are less than $20 to get in the door. I’m sure the Charli/Troye show will be cheap too. Unless I love the artist, I’ve learned to hold off on buying until closer to the show
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

too many shows that should be at Pier 17 are being booked at Forest Hills

to Mitski’s credit, it seems her team just accurately guaged demand for that area. 2/3 of those MPP shows are fully sold out and the 3rd night is pretty close. resale for her 4 night stint at a 5000cap venue in boston was still going for above face value resale up until the show dates
Speaking of tours with the opposite problem, really surprised The Marias haven't added a 2nd NYC date. There's gaps around their Radio City show so maybe they'll add another night there or somewhere smaller.

As someone who wants to snag a ticket eventually the tickets are kind of pricey imo. I am waiting for prices to drop a little.

Resale tickets are for the most party pretty close to face value (pit notwithstanding). Orch and Mezz were like $100/ticket after fees.
