He's having fun. He's also 28. He went to BYU and then I think did a Mormon mission after that. So his start in the NFL is a bit later than most.
I'm loving being on this end of the Saints Panthers rivalry at the moment. 4 straight against the Panthers. Cam with his broken broom sneakers. Coach Payton tossing his visor into the stands and hitting that guy in the face who threw it back at him. Us dancing in the locker room again. I'm glad the team I hate the most is the one we get along with the least. Here's hoping Davis gets a big fat fine for the cheap shot that caused Max Unger his concussion. And also whomever hit Michael Thomas helmet to helmet in the 3rd or early 4th, I hope you have to fork over $20k or so as well. I'm also glad we condemned them to not having a winning season.
I'll give them the early benefit of the doubt for Week #17 though. If we can beat a desperate Steelers team this weekend, we'll get 3 weeks to rest up for the playoffs. In that case, maybe we can play them tough with our 2nd and 3rd stringers, but I don't expect us to win. However, if we lose to the Steelers, take it to the bank that the Saints will win Week #17. Don't bet the spread, because these games have recently been very close with the exception of last year's regular season games that we won pretty handily. Point differential in parenthesis:

we need to win out. cowboys losing out would be ideal, so we can take the division. otherwise, we need the seahawks to lose out, or the vikings to drop one.
nick foles is one of the most clutch players in the nfl.

I'm about to do a statistical deep dive into the Saints this season and why I'm not very concerned about the recent drop in offensive production. You've been warned.
Let's start with Drew. Three weeks ago, the man was a shoe-in for MVP despite the incredible season on Mahomes. During this three game road trip @ Dallas on prime time, @ Tampa, and MNF @ Carolina, he has only 2 TDs with 3 INTs and is only averaging 177 yards/game!! Unless something crazy happens, I feel like he'll be runner-up yet again. But the final two games are at home, and assuming that the Saints lock up the #1, the divisional and NFC championship games would also potentially be at home. And Drew is a very different QB in the Dome than away. Let's examine that.
In the 8 away games this year, Drew has a mediocre 11 TDs and 4 INTs, and averaging only 218 yards/game. He's completing 72.7% of his throws, with a passing rating of 97.5 and a QBR of 59.9.
However, in the 6 home games played at home Drew has 20 TDs, only 1 INT, and is averaging 321 yards/game. He's completing 77.7% of his throws, with a passing rating of 133.2 and a QBR of 89.2!
The same can be said for the offense in general. When playing on the road, the Saints average 28.9 points (that's including the depressing 16.7 points/game in the past three games). But in the Dome, the Saints average 38 points/game.
The brightest of all bright spots for this team has really been the defense. That's right, I said it. The Saints defense has become the biggest reason that teams should be afraid to play this team in the playoffs.
In the past 6 games, the Saints defense is allowing only 12.3 points/game. They're allowing only 280 yards/game, including only 197.3 yards in the air. They're averaging 4.7 sacks/game. They're averaging 2.3 turnovers/game (1.3 INTs and 1.0 fumbles). I saw something on ESPN this morning that said during this time, they were either in first or tied for first in every one of these categories.
And just to throw in a little lagniappe, kicker Will Lutz is 46/47 on XPs and 27/28 on FGs.
Defense has played better since the switch at DC, but I don't see them winning at Dallas. I think we will have a pick in the first 10 of the draft and a new HC in a couple of weeks.
taysom did his mission first (which imo seems like the better thing to do, i didn't realize you could choose), then college. he would have gone to stanford but jeebus.

I find myself rooting for a bunch of teams that aren't among the historically great franchises this year (at least in my lifetime, and this is meant as no slight to any of them) - New Orleans, Kansas City, LA Chargers and Rams, Houston.
I nominally root for the Steelers being from Pittsburgh but I'd love to see one of those 5 teams win it this year.
A team that has moved twice like the Rams can't be as historical as the Chiefs, who are original family owned, creator of the Super Bowl, have appeared and won in the game, etc. Same reason I put NOLA over the Chargers, plus they have a SB win.
yeah chiefs probably over the rams. id just take the warner teams over any KC team ever probably.
fun fact, we bought the Texans name from the Chiefs (who moved from Dallas), because Bud Adams was a dick and wouldn't let us re buy Oilers.
OMG I would love if they brought back the Oilers nickname. Those were some of my favorite teams to watch as a kid. Warren Moon running the Run and Shoot, Haywood Jeffries, Ernest Givens, Jerry Glanville, The House of Pain.
Those old AFC Central rumbles with the Dawg Pound, Cincy's Jungle, the House of Pain, and the Blast Furnace in Pittsburgh...those games were some real fun. Then the freaking Adams and Modell families had to be jerkstores.
when Bud Adams died I posted "the lowest circle of hell is reserved for traitors, rest in peace bud." Despite everything I do not feel that way about McNair. The worst part about him is how much he's supported Mitch McConnell, but the best thing he did was bring me back football, but he kind of also ruined that to some degree. Either way, fuck Bud Adams.
*Couldn't think of anything I'd rather have associated with a milestone like 10K than a shot at a dead man. also, fuck that's a lot and I'm sorry.
Oakland is reportedly signing Peterman because Gruden sees potential in him. What is even going on this season?
To their practice squad. He honestly does have potential. Like half of his interceptions bounced off of his receivers. He looked solid in the preseason and he apparently is good in practice and great in the room.
There was no reason Buffalo could justify keeping him around anymore but the coaching staff really wanted to.
I read that he was facing indefinite suspension for violating terms of his reinstatement. If you have the capacity to do offseason workouts and push and stress your body to the limits, it's not a stretch to be able to do that with your mind and habits. Obviously not everyone can control that stuff, but I'm thinking guys like Gordon and Blackmon could just exercise a bit of self-discipline for a few more years and then can spend the rest of their lives in as much bliss as they want to.
Edit: To clarify, good on Gordon for taking time away if he needs it.
If we're the 3 seed, I can see a win in the Wild Card round. Other than that, I don't think the Pats are going far this year. Any team with a great run game or a secondary will stomp them.
Also, sang_xcx how you feel about Renfrow being a Patriot, cause I can definitely see them drafting him.

That's been a running joke around here. Just seems like something that's going to happen.
Not having fun because it’s Buffalo or because they’re Bills?
Buffalo and WNY/Southern Ontario is a very beautiful part of the continent. Winter sucks but that’s the only thing I’ve found that I don’t like there. Ellicottville/Holiday Valley, Niagra Falls, Letchworth State Park, Toronto, Lake Erie, Allegheny River, Niagra on the Lake, the food, the people, mountain towns, in the Southern Tier, outsized hotbed for next generation jam rock and a cool music scene overall. Idk. I’ve been up there several times and never didn’t have fun. But I never played for the Bills. ————————— Saints need to put some mfs to bed tonight. Steelers will be tough after the Ravens win.

I just generally assume that attacks on Buffalo/WNY come from people who haven't been here in the last decade.

Haha. Ironic because I haven’t been up since 06. But I love it up there.
