Random thought, but the way the 1975 delayed Bostons date got me curious. Almost makes me think they were set to play but when they found out they wouldn't be headlining they dropped. Hence why theyre playing agganis just a day before Gov Ball. If so, we really dodged a bullet if it could have been ____, the 1975 and twenty one pilots for our headliners.
Agreed. Seems like they had a deal in place and it fell through. Wonder who the replacement will be. Good news for everyone though, now fans can see a whole show and another spot is opened up

They were probably #4 or #5 on the lineup. Tame Impala or AM would make me so happy. But they're prob #3s here at this point.

Would the 1975 really even be a headliner if their stop in Boston is at Agganis? I know the Killers were there last year as well and then went on to play BC but I feel more like thats a band with a huge history who is just kind of saturating the tour/festival circuit by touring so often vs. an up and coming band that has a large fan base but still hasn't made it to "headliner" status yet.

Killers were at the Garden last January before headlining, not Agganis. 1975 wouldn't have headlined. No chance.
As far as the delayed Boston show announcement, it was only delayed a day so i don't think they were committed to BC and bailed. I think they were trying to clear the show announcement with one of the openers/venues/promoters/whoever because one of the two openers i think has a show at Sinclair or Paradise coming up.

Maybe not top 3 but definitely top 6. Guess we'll see where they end up on posters this summer

You're right my bad (they played Agganis a few years back and my brain is just a mess of tour dates rather than anything remotely useful)! Also that makes sense. I was just concerned that there will start being an increase in making people headliners before their time just to "increase" festival diversity, which I think would/could really backfire.

Yeah top 6 wouldn't surprise me! I have seen them moving up the lines over the last few years. I just have never even heard a song that they have done so I was getting concerned that I wouldn't be able to go to a festival this year without at least one headliner being something I have no interest in (any more than 21Pilots but at least I have had to change the radio station because of them).
As far as local bands, Bay Faction would be awesome opening the Red or Blue stage. Saw em in a diy venue this past weekend and they were incredible. they also sold out mid east upstairs a couple times.

PLEASE that would be awesome. I played with them once they're great.
Not a massive fan of him whatsoever but A$AP Rocky skips Boston on his winter tour for January, only playing Mohegan Sun. Maybe can count him in?
Would this make Post Malone less likely?
I'd much rather have A$AP and Cardi as the top hip-hop acts in the undercard
That depends, unless I missed something I don't think Post has announced a summer tour yet, and I think he's the type of artist to do a yearly tour of some sorts. Once or if he announces a tour maybe it'll be more clear.

I hope to god Post isn't on this lineup.
If Post is on the lineup sadly he'd headline. Guaranteed. I'd like to think Boston Calling has more artistic integrity though, considering we already have twenty one pilots headlining.
If you look at last years Gov Ball lineup they definitely booked more mainstream acts than BC 2018 did. Like Gov ball got Post Malone, Halsey, Shawn Mendes and Lil Uzi whereas we got none of em.
On the total other end of the spectrum: Guster have a new album out next year and a tour that hits Boston in January. It's about time BC throws them a courtesy booking
Doesn't Coachella still get first dibs before any other festival is allowed to announce?
Traditionally yes
Unless BC doesn't have anyone (important) on Coachella's lineup
In that case I bet they're just generating hype for the holiday presale and regular lineup release. We almost always have a huge amount of crossover with Coachella.
I guess we'll see in Nine days, talk to me Nov 9 lol (same day Muse is announcing their tour and has Boston confirmed but I'm betting they will do the Garden again even tho they barely filled it last time)

I hope they just play the garden again lmao. I'm really not a fan of em.

I am 100% with you but if I had to choose between them and 21 Pilots though it wouldn't be to hard of a decision... Hopefully we aren't forced into both
Will this be the year we finally get The Strokes? I know they're not super relevant to most people anymore but I would be quite pleased if they stopped at BC this year

Muse is announcing their tour Monday so I think they're probably out since they have confirmed they are doing Boston.
Gotta be honest twenty one pilots put on a hell of a show a couple weeks back at the garden, but I do think it just won't translate well to BC and won't be any different (besides a smaller production) than what they did already. Kinda hoping for Arctic Monkeys, but even then I want something *different* something *actually shocking*

Yeah nothing against them more that there are so many more acts I would prefer to see and I am sure they will be everywhere for a while.
