That show is 3 hours from Boston, I don’t think it means much tbh
But how far does a radius clause go? I would think that 3 hours is just about right.
I feel like artists have played North Adams and BC or Newport before. Trying to remember who. I just don’t think Boston promoters are worried about MassMOCA shows.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
I'm hoping BC is far enough away that we don't need to worry about a lot of that dumpster fire.
Foo Fighters - 21 Pilots - Travis Scott for headliners. Wouldn't be surprised if we got Tyler and maybe Brockhampton.
We got Tyler just last year though. Brockhampton too. A Brockhampton redemption set may be possible though since they were really in a bad spot this year.

I did not go last year, so I don't remember most of the people who were there

No way Hozier would be that low here. He was selling out Boston gigs before he started selling out shows everywhere, due to the large Irish ex-pat population.
Half of the crowd walked out of City Hall Plaza after his Fall 2014 set and didn't stay for the Alabama Shakes. He's be no lower than 5th in that lineup (but, realistically, Vampire Weekend isn't 2nd line here. They'd book either Flo or Vamp for a top line spot, not relegate one of them to second line. And Kacey Musgraves would be nowhere near as high as 5th in any Boston Calling lineup.)
Half of the crowd walking out of City Hall Plaza after his Fall 2015 set was also because it was a Sunday night, and also because so many people in the crowd that edition fucking sucked and mostly didn't seem to care about the music.
And I question whether Vampire Weekend could be top spot here: they could easily get a slot such as The National last year on the second line.
You may be right about Vampire Weekend dropping to 2nd line at the big fests, judging from the Firefly lineup drop.
Again, I like her but I just saw flo in October lol
am I to assume everyone noticed the tour gap for Paul McCartney playing NOLA the thursday before BC and then not playing again until Memorial Day itself in North Carolina and just decided it was impossible for him to play BC the Saturday, then make it back to SC for Monday?
I mean this won't happen but hey it could be done lol

I can't see them bringing anyone back for the second year in a row, unless it's a musician or rapper in a different band/configuration (like Big Red Machine following The National last year.)
Not sure about the rest of you guys, but I'm starting to get really worried about this festival. I have faith in Aaron Dessner's booking but so far it looks pretty grim.

I feel like we just don't have a good sense yet. The only artists we have a good guess on are pretty lame, yeah, but that's literally like... 3-5 out of 50.

I don't think anything so far is cause for alarm.
I agree and disagree. For me having two headliner be leaning much more towards the younger crowd (TOP and Travis) is a pretty big bummer since obviously that's where a majority of the money is going to go. Having Sir Paul would sweeten the deal but not having competing headliners means I'll be probably checking out a little of the other two and heading out early if I'm not entertained meaning that I'll be wasting money on tickets for those two days. Also I can only hope they will be smart and make those incredible undercard days but with the recent trend being to load those days with artists who appeal to the people who want those headliners I am a bit hesitant to think this won't just be filled with SoundCloud rapperz and YouTube Starz. Aaron D hasn't let me down yet so I will remain hopeful but my hopes are definitely tempered with the release of these lineups.

I feel like if Florence is headlining Gov Ball she's in for this too. She would work really well in a Killers/ Mumford & Sons role. The firefly lineup has me worried especially since the lineup will supposedly gear more towards EDM and Rap, though I'm praying that ends up being false.
I don't know if ideal is the right word, but I feel like we'll see something like
Florence + The Machine - Travis Scott - Twenty One Pilots Post Malone - Cardi B - Vampire Weekend - Panic! At the Disco - Insert boring edm act
after typing that its kinda cringe worthy. I have an insider source that told me they reached out to Cardi B about playing, Idk if the booking actually happened or not.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

I feel like that lacks a true #1. Maybe throw in Kanye or Kendrick at #1 and axe Post or Travis and it'd make more sense. I have a hunch Tame Impala is playing this though, it's been a long time. Also Panic! would headline no question if they did play, given they are at firefly.

It's either Post OR Travis I'd say in this case. Panic! Would headline no doubt about it.

yeah i dont like the looks of what we may get this year

That would be a notable step down from the last two years headliner-wise. I still think we get Foos or The Cure

Yeah same here
To me, it's more an issue of what Firefly and Hangout look like this year, considering that most U.S. festivals happening around the same time of the year tend to share headliners and lower-line performers.
Where Boston Calling is more likely to excel is in counter-programming the Blue Stage if the likes of 21P and Travis Scott headline. Book Jason Isbell or Sturgill Simpson (or another Americana act) on Blue opposite 21P and any legacy theater-level 80's-90's indie rock act opposite Travis Scott, and they've made a lot more people happy.

Eww, just listened to about 30 seconds of her music, and it's horrible. I was expecting Phoebe Bridgers or Mitski and got a cross between Maggie Rogers and Travis Scott. Some really bad auto-tuned pop happening here.
