As they used to say, different strokes for different folks. Not counting the acts playing both OL and BC, Paul Simon, Gambino, Mavis Staples, BOCC, and Alex Lahey make this a much better festival, to my tastes, with Leon Bridges, Kacey Musgraves, Toro y Moi, Counting Crows, and Blink-182 all icing on the cake.
I'm not as impressed by Osheaga, although Gambino, Interpol, and St. Paul all interest me more than anyone at Boston Calling except for Hozier and Fred Armisen.
(Seeing how many festivals Gambino is doing on what may be his retirement tour makes BC's failure to book him on par with their failure to book Outkast.)
Gambino played in Boston last September, so BC didn't fail for shit.
And Travis Scott played the Garden after Gambino, so what's your point?
Also, it's not like Boston Calling can be blamed of neglect for not having gotten Outkast in 2014. Hell, even Bonnaroo did not manage that either.
Well, they probably didn't want to fly across country to do two festivals in one weekend in the spring (and Sasquatch was the bigger festival back then) and the fact that Andre Benjamin has family in St. Louis was the reason why they played the smaller LouFest during the same weekend in Sept.
Still, it's hugely disappointing that a concert market of this size lost out on Outkast.
Not sure how I really feel about this one. It's not bad, but Tame Impala with zero guitars kinda gives me the heebie jeebies.
Not gonna lie I'm kinda worried about the new album. Loved that snippet he shared on insta but not loving the new singles so much. I hope he still keeps a lot of material from Lonerism in the setlist.

"Patience" has grown on me a bunch with repeated listens, but I'll second that emotion about set choices.
Any one have any inside info on how this is selling? I imagine its probably the poorest selling one of the new site.
Last year VIP had sold out by now. This year I’ve been trying to offload my VIP pass for 2 months. It’s already discounted $200 below the current price, but there’s virtually no interest.

Damnn. hopefully this teaches them a lesson on cheaping out on headliners. you'd think they'd go big again after how well Eminem sold tix. They can probably afford it due to having such a low amount of artists compared to other fests of its size.

I mean, I think this also speaks to this being a down year for American multi-genre festivals in general, and maybe the start of the real accelerated decline of the market everybody's been talking about happening for a few years, now. I haven't really seen any major festival announced this year that has people freaking out and scrambling for tickets, and I'd say, anecdotally, that enthusiasm seems to be down across the board.

Very true. Even last year there were at least still artists universally considered headliners headlining fests, sure they were samey (Jack White, the Killers and Eminem playing every fest) but they were still undisputed massive headliners. Now The fucking Lumineers, Post Malone, and Tyler, The Creator(love him but he's not a headliner) are headlining fests. In North America there doesn't seem to be any stadium level acts booked either, barring Woodstock. I'm very curious to see how fests look next year given the current direction they seem to be heading. Just sucks that Boston never really had a big fest until a couple years ago. Didn't get to enjoy the peak of festivals cause I was too young to travel.
With the inevitable questions about "Where to Eat" coming from out-of-towners soon, get your ice cream groove on at Boston Burger Company just outside of Harvard Square (and in Davis Square, Somerville and in Boston around the corner from Berklee) and try one of their legendary Freak Frappes.

They're sooo fuckin good. Highly recommend showing up and getting on a wait-list early tho. My fav appetizer is Mac-ancini and fav entrees are The Sophie and Mac Attack.

It works well, as an MF DOOM reference and in this very specific scenario.

Personally, I'll do a Freak Frappe only or a burger only there. I can't imagine having room for both. (Never order a Freak Frappe to go. They're smaller and missing half of the stuff they normally put in and on them. I've seen them hand Freak Frappes to Grubhub drivers and they're definitely scaled-back versions.)
Don't let the lines at any of the Boston Burger Company locations scare you. When there's a line out the door, half of the people in line are Grubhub drivers or people waiting to pickup their own takeout.
The odds are that if you're coming to the festival from out of town, you'll probably be at the festival during the busiest hours at Boston Burger Co. You're more likely to be at the restaurant super early or super late, when it won't be quite as crowded.)
They've got an interesting new brunch menu that's not on their website yet. The brunch-only Freak Frappe is a maple shake with mini pancakes, french toast sticks, candied bacon. caramel, cinnamon toast crunch cereal, frosting. Brunch starts at 11 every Sat and Sun.
If Italian food is more to your liking, the Boston Burger Co. folks opened Mortadella Head in Davis Sq last year with really great sandwiches, decent pizza, fries topped with a range of unexpected items, and some offbeat appetizers like deep fried lasagna sticks.
(Release the food vendor lineup...and the daily schedule.)

Apparently, whenever viral YouTube sensations Clairo and Sheck Wes perform at a festival this summer, the festival is contractually obligated to show a 30 second ad for Grammarly or Groupon on the video screens between each song.
Audience members who are subscribers to any of YouTube's paid services will be permitted to cover their ears, close their eyes, and loudly say "NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA..." for the length of the ad, since terms of service permit them to have an advertising-free YouTube experience.

wonder who's replacing Black Star. was thinking it'd be Earl Sweatshirt but they haven't made an announcement yet despite his Boston show finishing up last night. They'll prob do SOMETHING considering how badly friday is selling lol.
I'm feeling pretty good about Hozier closing Blue with Andy on Green. Just because Paak on blue would probably also conflict with ODESZA, which seems like a weird move when you could put Hozier there

Very good point, However, .Paaks stage production seems more elaborate than Hozier's which leads me to believe he'd close a stage. I hope I'm wrong though.
