I think we all can agree that the Killers are the least exciting headliner that's active right now. They are the same as the Kings of Leon. No argument there, right?
They have a broader appeal than KOL based off of Mr. Brightside alone. They're a total last minute panic booking of a headliner and from talks on EFests, they were the last headliner to be booked by a large margin when they couldn't lock down anybody else after Macca fell through. I totally get why they are booked in those situations though, they're a ridiculously obtainable crowd pleaser for the general public that will always make themselves available for any fest that wants/needs them, and they'll have the biggest/most involved crowd at Glastonbury, easily.
As an outsider looking in, it seems like Glastonbury in general can have pretty pedestrian headliners especially since their other stage closers are often so ace, as it seems like a lot of people go to Glastonbury and check out 2-4 concerts per day vs. a Coachella where you're scrambling to see 8-9, simply because of the size of it all and the fact that there's so much going on. And so a Coldplay or Killers can end up being a huge success for the crowd that only sees a few bands a day and is at a music festival for the whole experience, whereas with other fests the crowd might not be into it. And the music nerds will have a blast at the counter programming at the Other or John Peel or whatever which is always amazing.
But ultimately I think this is just another example that there weren't really a lot of genuinely huge headliners available for anybody this year, and fests handled it differently. Coachella promoted Tame Impala even though they're smaller to avoid a more pedestrian/over saturated headliner, Roo doubled down on Phish which has less of a widespread appeal but endless goodwill for their core fanbase, and Glasto stuck with The Killers who are less prestigious but genuinely a bigger band. I can't see a single major fest that didn't have to compromise to some degree on their headliners this year.
I like the Killers headlining for the same reason I liked Ed Sheeran headlining last time... It made the crowd for Justice on a different stage THAT much better because everyone was going for it!
Hopefully be the same for Hot Chip playing at the same time as Killers.
You got Imagine Dragons headlining Woodstock but sure.
Do we know that they’re headlining? They were like the 6th leaked name? Agreed that they are a yawn headliner worse than the killers if so, tho...but i guess the killers are also headlining Woodstock? Haha
Nope. We are just arguing for the sake of arguing.

I don't know how to break it to you guys, but you don't go to this festival for headliners. True, I had the Rolling Stones, but that's beside the point. There is so much more here than the music. This festival is a pilgrimage. It's a fucking institution. It is to be revered. You put it on your bucket list. And if you are lucky, you get to go. And if you are really lucky, you get to go more than once. And if you are beyond lucky (me) you have hardly any rain.
Your “you wouldn’t understand” spiel comes off as pretentious and condescending to a board full of people who have been to as many festivals as you have.
I get that Glasto is bigger than the sum of its parts - but when the supposed gold standard of festivals comes out with a C+ lineup, it leaves something to be desired. So forgive me if I’m not revering George Ezra and The Killers just because they happen to be in a field in the UK and not in a field anywhere else.
George Ezra's not that bad live tbh
Not a ticket seller but a positive on the lineup to me
(Granted I saw him in a really weird setting where it was just him and a guitar)

Nope, I would disagree with this for sure.
Inforoo is actually defending the Killers booking this year.

So as days go by i'm becoming more and more fond of the lineup. I was initially a little underwhelmed, but this really is great. What me and my GF are trying to decide now is to go ahead and attend (just the 2 of us), or if we should go to Belgium for a few days and then Rock Werchter instead. The trade up being: we get to go to another new country, more acts she's interested in on RW, and we have 2 friends who can join us as tickets are available. Quite a conflict!

I like Glasto’s lineup more. Also adding people to the mix makes it more difficult to see everyone you want

Just my opinion, but I think if one has already secured tickets after the lengthy ticket process (and possibly travel, accommodations, etc) then I wouldn't miss the opportunity. The experience is truly unlike any other and there's no guarantee that the stars will align again. There are so many stages left to be announced and those are usually packed with the fun stuff. I understand trying to catch up with buddies too though, but rest assured that there is still some really cool music still to come.

Go to Glasto. This is also just the first of what I'm sure are several waves of announcements. By the time it's over it always feels like every touring artist is playing at Glasto. It's also sort of a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Honestly, Barney could be the headliner and I'd still go to Glasto, assuming you've never been.
Plans leaked for a new area themed to a UK Victorian pier on the sea. They're building a 180x40ft Victorian pier above The Park...from the drawings it'll have a couple rides, a mirror maze, fortune tellers, and a bandstand for live music.
Underneath the pier is supposed to be a couple of "beach shanty-type pubs".
