I got all excited about this draft thinking "great! Infinity draft means people won't be getting all pedantic over every choice, by nature of this game's absurdity" - but instead, you might just turn this into the most rule-laden draft yet.
I agree with what CDevaney posted earlier today about how Neil Young = Neil Young & Crazy Horse, but Neil Young =/= CSNY. Use a bit of common sense when deciding if an act is really a solo artist with a backing band, or if it's a separate project with its own unique sound. This is Inforoo... we will call you out on it and put it up in a poll if you try to pull a fast one. And we will vote harshly if we think you're wasting our time.
In a draft of this scope, I think there should be a rule that supergroups don't lock in the individual members (e.g. Watch The Throne doesn't secure exclusive rights to Kanye & Jay-Z). I'm not as fussed about the reverse. If one person has Jay-Z and the other has Kanye, Watch the Throne is off the table unless they can work out some sort of deal together.
I'm pretty sure someone can draft Watch the Throne even if Kanye and Jay have already been taken.

Since we have the ability to draft dead people, could we also draft a band in a specific year? Like _____ ___ '76? I didn't want to name the band.
You can specify a specific era of an act of you'd like. The general assumption is that all acts are being drafted at their peak, though.
If only one person could have them, it benefits the drafter to leave it ambiguous as it lets voters decide what a band's peak is. The exact year people prefer for David Bowie, for example, would probably not be universal.

I agree but if some people have a specific era that they really want, even at the expense of optimizing the effectiveness of their lineup (and making their posters kind of a mess), more power to 'em!

if everyones top lines are riddled with "Classic Rock Band *1976-83" it'll start to feel kinda silly imo. i say lets just draft the acts, and not try and force a specific setlist for all of them. (Aside from the few album anniversary shows were allowed).
Yeah, I'm happy to take a waitlist but right now we still have two actual spots to be filled and some people seem more interested in talking shit than actually stepping up.
I think the point is it doesn't really matter enough that we need to have a whole plan for it. If someone drops out and someone else wants to take over then great. If not their picks will just die.

They were not saying that. They said we don’t have a full roster as if: A. I was implying we have too many people wanting to come in or B. We can’t focus on two things at once

why would a person want to be on the waitlist and not just sign up for the two open slots?

I stated above that it would be good for those sitting on the fence, maybe someone like Bun. Many people end up regretting not signing up.
How about if someone drops we proceed as follows: 1. someone on a poss waitlist takes over drafting that lineup. 2. if nobody wants to take over we either decide now or later to either make all acts picked void and undraftable or release them all back into the available pool.

Or... a separate micro draft!
All remaining players are entered in a randomly ordered draft to pick the homeless draftees.
Really, Carini's plan is the correct one. Sometimes it's fun to just trigger something pointlessly complicated, though.
