My assumption would be The Strokes vs Tame Impala on Thursday. Of the three years they have done the Thursday, two of those years the Thursday has been the #4 and #5 on the Poster.

Both times it made sense though: J Cole/Lana & AM/Travis. In this case, Strokes vs Tame seems like a gut punch to any of the rock-inclined people since those acts are pretty scarce here. More than anything, I think they like #4 vs #5 because it’s harder to sell single days for Thursday and they want to stack the top part of that day.

Dumb question but when does the single day lineup get announced and those daily passes go on sale? I feel like it's normally right close to after the initial drop

Last year they waited until 4 day passes were sold out and it took a week.
Anyone have any suggestions for undercard acts to check out? I've slowed down on finding new music, so I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction. Couple people I am planning on seeing (for reference of taste):
Flume, Madeon, Rufus, Revivalists, Louis the Child, Fitz, Judah, and Francis and the lights to name a couple.

Electronicish: Yaeji, Lane 8
Pop/R&B: Omar Apollo, G Flip, Rosalia
Indie: Japanese Breakfast, Sharon Van Etten, Men I Trust,

Just saying that Judah and the Lion was one of the worst shows ive ever seen. Definitely avoid their show unless you really like their music

After seeing Rosalia on the Coachella stream, I'm starting to get enough fomo that I might have to make her day of Lolla work out if they manage to put other interesting acts (preferably Strokes and Janelle) on the same day.
Surprised 4-days haven't sold out yet... does it typically take this long?

as long as I’ve been paying attention it has never taken this long
Before last year it would sell out within an hour. Last year it took about a week

The last time it took this long was 2011 or maybe 2012. In the earlier years of the festival it would take months to sell out, if it even sold out at all.
I know everyone likes to point toward the line up as the main cause for slow sales - but I think that's a lazy assessment. There are more festivals than ever, and tickets are more expensive than ever. Acts are also touring more now due to that being the driver of income so there are less and less rare acts these days.
I'm not going to argue with anyone who doesn't like the lineup, but I think it's loaded with people who sell tickets. You have to factor in more than just the names you like to determine why tickets aren't selling as fast...

i think “acts that sell tickets” isn’t always a good judge of what makes for a well selling lineup
There needs to be cohesion top to bottom to move those $400 tickets. Otherwise you’ll just wait for the individual tickets for whichever act on the lineup you want to see.
The only reason I’m considering going one day is for the Strokes, who basically only play festivals nowadays. But there isn’t much draw for me otherwise. What else is there that appeals to that demographic? Death Cab for Cutie, who tour yearly?
There's a lot of factors, but the smorgasbord of a lineup is certainly one of them. Expanding the lineup to four days, the increased cost, and the festival market being over-saturated all factor in as well.
I did all four days the first year they expanded, and it was just too much Lolla. It's not gonna happen, but consolidating back to three days would alleviate some of the other problems as well. Cost would come down, and you could weed out some of the "filler" bands that wouldn't otherwise fit on the lineup.
The lineup is perfectly fine. It's 100% that it's four days and an over saturation of festivals (I wouldn't say there's more fests now than ever. We've lost a good amount over the last few years). I would also say that festivals have overall less rarity now that a lot of rare acts have been pulled out of hiding in the last 20 years so.
