Btw, the new Chemical Brothers album is really cool. Solid move to have them as a headliner this year.
My friends and I were originally just going to go Sunday of the fest and hit the city for the rest of the weekend for my buddies bachelor party, but now a few of us (including the guy whose bach party it is) are highly considering going Saturday too for the Chemical Brothers. I'm loving their new album and just started diving into their discography. Seems like I'd be foolish to miss out on their set when I'll be in Montreal already.
Hahaha, since the groom-to-be is considering it as well, you all must go for sure!
Anyone with experience walking to the casino after the festival? Is it right next to the festival as it shows on the map?
I’m a gambling degen and this is very important to me.
Me, the wife, and her friend stumbled upon the casino last year after leaving the festival. We were pretty messed up so I can't say if it was close, but we got there on foot so it couldn'tve been that far.
Staying in downtown Montreal works fine logistically, given that the island is accessible by subway.
Quick pros:
-American dollar goes further in Canada than in the USA. -Crowds are chiller than in America. -Schedule works well in terms of cross-programming at all hours. -Picnic Electronic area is cool. -Getting to explore Montreal. -Easy to smoke weed.
Quick cons:
-Not many water fountains when I was last there (in 2016). -Main stage area is dusty. -Beer and food choices aren't that special. -The festival uses a fire hose at the main stages to cool people off, which is great during the day but not at night when it cools off. -Beer vendors that walk through the crowd, which is a distraction if you staked out a good spot and are trying to follow the performances.
The gold pass area has gotten really crowded and isn't really worth it. The beer/drink vendors are great, except for one very tall guy (who is super nice, but also super tall...) I think the food choices are great - tons of really good food trucks. Craft beer hasn't really made it to Canada yet. There was one "craft beer" truck last year. And even that was pretty weak. We've gone the past 7 years, so obviously we like it. It's a great fest.
Lol wut? There's tons of (and, IMO, too much) craft beer in Canada. It might not be represented at the fest... but that's not surprising considering they're sponsored by Coors.
Re: food, if you look a little harder there's some really good options. Mandy's Salads, if it weren't for long lines, would probably be a weekend highlight for me the past two years. We've also had the lobster rolls pretty much annually, and the Lox bagels from the St. Viateur truck are the bomb.
It's not like, a Coachella food lineup or anything, but there's a lot of good stuff.

Yes, you can walk. It was closer to the temporary site, so I'd say it's about a mile from the original site, maybe a little less. 15 minute walk. Do a Google map from the biosphere.

a Sunday day pass might be in the cards for me. My girlfriends brother is getting married that weekend in Ottawa - so as long as the ceremony is on Saturday, I'll hop a train the next morning to come see Gambino, Tame, Kaytranada, Real Estate. Sweeeeet.
With Gucci cancelling shows who would you grab from the lolla potential replacements?
I'd take Gary Clark Jr, Kacey Musgraves, Tenacious D, Yaeji or Diesel
I'd love to see Death Cab For Cutie, J.I.D, Pusha T(not at lolla but doing a couple fests in the U.S. around that time). I feel like if he gets replaced its almost certainly gonna be a hip hop artist.

I'm considering attending just on Saturday now. Anybody want to make any predictions on what stages the top names will play? The goal would be to see Chemical Brothers, RUFUS, and ScHoolboy Q, so it would suck if these clashed at all (since I'm already counting on Beach House to clash with something and am prepared to skip that).
Selling discount tickets at Costco isn’t a great sign but could just be a promotion and I could be looking too much into that. I imagine it’s selling better than a decent amount of festivals this year while still being less than last year

Honestly kind of surprised its selling badly considering how good the lineup is this year. At least compared to other North American festivals.

I attribute it more to festivals not being as desired as past years in general, not anything Oshe is doing will change that. Evenko is a great company that knows what they are doing. I imagine it is not in any serious trouble

They have actually sold discounted tickets at Costco the last couple years. They do it for Heavy Montreal as well.
Don't forget they have also increased capacity by 20,000.
wont be attending this year but for all of your sakes i hope they bring back the Perrier tent. that was a big highlight for us last year, super clutch with the AC too. Also, i forget who it was in here who recommended the smoked meat sandwich from Schwarts's that was probably the best sandwich i ever had, bought one to take home with. Highly recommend it even if its a long wait which it prob will be

I think a few of us mentioned Schwartz's. It's never as good, but we always grab a couple vacuum-sealed packs to bring home at the end of the weekend.
If God eats sandwiches, they're probably from Schwartz's .
Is there general admission PIT sections at the stages? It mentions a pit section for platinum passes but nowhere else?
I'm not sure. there wasnt any seperate pit section last year but that was the temp location. either they may add one specifically for platinum members this year or "pit" simply means they get to get be in front of the barrier.
