Is the plan to increase by 20k? I dont think I have heard that anywhere before.. If it is true, then yeah they could probably start booking stadium acts.
I remember the old CBC article that showed the interpretation of the new site said from 45K to 65K. Or maybe 40-60?
60k ppl fests usually dont book acts like Macca, Beyonce, U2, ect. Fests that hold 80k or more like Lolla, ACL, Chella, Roo, and even Firefly are usually the ones that grab those kind of acts.. I suppose they could spend the money on them and ignore the capacity; but then that would be balanced by making the undercard not as good (Osheaga always has amazing/stacked undercards and maybe just me but Id rather 20 great smaller acts than one over priced headliner.). Plus they just sold out all three days with Florence, AM, and Travis. Not really any need to go bigger.
One thing I got out of that article: I really hope they arent putting in seats at the mainstage area. When I think amphitheater I think of outdoor venues near me like PNC and BB&T. Seats instead of GA standing would kind of be a drag.
I guess all these questions will be answered next March.
I think they're going to try to start the new amphitheater off with a bang. Prevailing opinion has been that they have Arcade Fire lined up, as they haven't played the festival in a long time. Doesn't much matter to me, already have our passes for next year regardless. I am worried about the increase in attendance, as the leaving always sucks, and they really have to up the secondary stages like the EDM, Arbor and Green stage areas as well... But, this festival does a good job of reacting to problems throughout the weekend, so hopefully they'll pull it off.
Yeah that year was ridiculous. I remember reading that Ratatat managed to pull more people than headliner Elvis Costello who was playing simultaneously.

When you grab an act that big and dont have the capacity for it; it eats up the budget... Honestly, I'll even cop to saying thats my opinion on Gov Ball this year (still had a good time tho).

I would personally like the lineups to continue as they are. We don't need need mega headliners here. Like you mentioned, it would unbalance the undercard which is where they shine IMO - always have.
They'll book a Radiohead and things like that from time to time, and that's excellent to me. Just keep it well rounded.
are we thinking august 30-september 1 next year? i want to go back to this now that it's returning to parc jean-drapeau, and i'm trying to update my montreal airbnb list.

There's a major shakeup going down right now in Montreal. The new major and her administration - mainly 1 guy who has a major bone to pick with eventco cutting down trees at the Parc to build the amiptheater, wants to limit the festival (and all other concert events) to just the amiptheater starting 2020. Meaning no other stages. Eventco had been circulating petitions and surveys to try to get public opinion behind them.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
I have heard from an employee at Evenko, that Osheaga will likely be back at the temporary site next year because the new amphitheater will not be ready.

Oof. I'm not sure if I'm going back in that case. i loved the festival but absolutely hated the new venue layout. The way the two main stages were on opposite sides absolutely sucked since it made it impossible to get a good spot for both later on. I also did make it out before getting redirected to the "alternative exit" but I don't wanna risk that next year.

same. the crowds for some of the sets were just a giant traffic jam
I personally liked the venue outside of the one night where they didn’t let us off the island
never been to the old site but i liked this years spot. That night we had to walk for what felt like 2 hours to get to the train was a nightmare but other than getting to and from was simple. I thought the grounds were spaced out nicely and never felt overcrowded.

i do remember a bad jam up coming from the green stage back to the main area as post was coming on. We just chilled in the middle at the food trucks and watched a rough standstill line. I think the schedule i had helped avoid major issues like that. Though i wasnt a fan of the Coors stage, sound was lacking most sets and it was just too small for a main stage. really my only issue but only had to deal with it packed twice i think.

i went to get food before khalid started, and then got stuck in the crowd with no way out. post malone and florence were a giant cluster too
Anyone know when the lineup tends to drop for this. Is it worth going to? I moved to Toronto from the UK and now that I am not going to Coachella for the first time in years, I need an alternative.
