And I think that putting anyone against Kanye is going to assure them being voted off. And so it seems wiser to not give someone a death sentence, therefore I moved off of Kanye.
So on the one hand you're worried Kanye will get voted off too soon and not want to play, but in the other hand Kanye definitely isn't getting voted off? Am I following?
Pablo, while I am voting for you now, my decision to do it now instead of next round is potentially to your benefit. If it is you and Kanye who ended up in the run-off in the end, I am moving to you, meaning you have one more vote on you that isn’t moving. I have always advocated for keeping newbs around for a few rounds.its not like this is unusual behavior from me.
If it ends up with you and ZIG, I may move off of you depending on who votes how and how ZIG acts,, meaning one less vote on you. Right now, if you are a Townie, I would think that you would not be antagonizing a player who has already explained her votes as she was voting, and could end up moving her vote off of you. I’m not in the runoff and it is the first round. It is kind of odd that I am the one being targeted so much to explain myself. I would think you would want to try to convince people to keep you rather than be so unsavory and suspicious.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Realistically, Kanye is not going to get voted out here, period. I would move my vote to avoid letting a new player get voted out first round, and others on him would too. So, if Kanye ends ups in the last runoff, it will almost assuredly be the other player going out. Whoever we decide to send in with Kanye is gone. So we are basically deciding if we want to keep Pablo or Zig here.
I'm not sure how you can be so confident in what other people will do with their votes. It makes perfect sense to vote a novice off to me.
And if you have an anxiety disorder, I apologize.
I’m not confident. That’s the point. I can’t be sure that anyone else is going to move anywhere, so I have to vote independent of anyone else, as though no one is going to make any moves. I can always move back.
And yes, I have had panic disorder since I was 13 that is so intense that I end up in ERs thinking I am having heart attack, and I am a nurse, so I know what a heart attack looks like but you can’t convince yourself of that when you are having an intense panic attack.

I've had experiences like that too. I understand. I misread the situation and I made a joke and I'm truly sorry for that.

Not a problem.
Also, I do think it is a problem to vote novices off right away. They tend to get fed up and don’t come back, and they don’t get any experience, so if they do come back, they are of little benefit to the town. It ends up taking a month to get a game going then, or the quality of the game suffers. No one has to agree with me on that, but it doesn’t mean I’m changing my way of playing.

Having the revoters being Danbob, Jaz, LLL is more interesting than Pablo, LD, SFA
I will 100% be revoting for whoever else is in the runoff. Be that you or Pablo.
This has to be the worst strategy ever. No matter what, you will not vote for Kanye regardless of if he is up against myself or Pablo...When your reason boils down to you not wanting to hurt his feelings or whatever is such BS.

I have no reason to vote for anyone yet because it is the first fucking round, so this is as good a reason as any. And it is to preserve the quality of the game and make sure that we have players in the future. Has nothing to do with “not wanting to hurt his feelings”.

I kinda see what you're saying, but I think this is a bad idea on both a micro and a macro level.

Use mental gymnastics all you want. You claim to have no reason to vote for someone but the fact you are basing your vote on someone’s newness to the game is exactly a reason. You didn’t use “hurt his feelings” but you insinuated it by talking about not being dicks and getting new players to come back.
I guarantee if it were someone like SFA or Jaz Against a noob, you’d say we have to keep the the experienced player in the game to help get a town win.

For what it's worth...this argument has been on and off for years. She's right in that it was pretty standard to not vote off new players in the first round. So I don't see this as being all that weird.
There was even people who claimed people were never mafia in there first game. That was totally wrong, of course.

Ok, maybe that was the case before I started playing, but I feel like I was in my fair share of runoffs early on. Some for playing loose like Kanye is in this game. So none of that rang especially true to me.
I voted for Kanye randomly. A lot of the voting on Day 1 is random, one way or another. Maybe next game I'll get a different name from the RNG and he'll be fine. It's just part of the game. It can be a frustrating game to play.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is blaming you for voting for him. I'm certainly not. I voted for him.
I was referring to years ago in mafia. LLL came back to play right around the same time you started, i believe? Maybe a game or two a couple months before you? Before that she hadn't played for like 3 or so years. That's typically the time frame were talking about when we say "how it used to be" or whatever. So when she said she felt a noob wouldn't get voted off it's from older history. Neither of you are necessarily wrong, it's just different experiences. I would say for the more modern games we certainly arn't as likely to save a new player just for being new. I still consider it but I'm not going to save someone if I think it hurts the town.

I can understand why it may not ring true for you. The social dynamics and demographics of this game (and the board in general) are drastically different than they once were, and I think it is for the worse, personally. I have a lot I could say about this, but it doesn't matter and it isn't going to change anything so I won't.
That being said, Silver Surfer, I would suggest that at this point you come forward with any thoughts you have about the game so that I don't regret my decision to play with old school integrity and end up turning into a hardened keyboard warrior like some of these guys and change my mind.

I mean play how you wanna play I don't want any special treatment because I'm new
I'm saying, you are about to get voted off. If you want to play, you should start participating.
I don't really know what I'm supposed to say it's the first round so it's completely random (the voting that is) if you guys think I'm mafia then go for it

Any thoughts on why ZIG may be thinking he would be better off going in the run-off with you instead of Pablo? He provided a reason that makes sense for the game as a whole (having voting information from 3 independent players rather than 2 players and one who is in the run-off so his vote is 100% predictable). But generally a player who is in a run-off and has any control over who they may be going up against may change their vote so that they have a better chance to survive. His vote change shifted who would ultimately be making the final decision, and he knew one of those people (me), was advocating to keep you around, so he was still really setting it up so that we are going to get more information off of two players, but it is two different players than it would have been (Danbob and Jaz vs LD and SFA).

Is zig saying he would survive against me? If so I have no idea. What he said made sense about seeing where loyalties lie but I'm one of his votes so if I changed I'd go against Pablo and the run off would still be there, essentially I'm stuck? I still don't completely understand how it works but it would suck if I got voted out

His vote implies that may be one of his reasons for changing from Pablo to you. He didn't say it out loud, but we have to consider that may be one of his intentions. You are stuck at this point in the run-off.
And don't worry, you are learning! It will all start to fall in place as you play more games. That is part of why I asked you what you thought, so that you know the things to consider as players vote or change votes and some of the angles we try to look at.

I'd be quite interested in hearing what you have to say on this if you feel like sharing (publicly or via PM).
Right now it's really a wash on Kanye vs. ZIG, and I'm not quite ready to vote yet. Kanye have you played this game before somewhere else or in a different form?

Simple Math. If I were up against Pablo, Pablo had a revote. So that meant under no circumstances would I get Pablo’s vote. That meant I would have to get BOTH LD and SFA (2/2). By switching, I now have to get (2/3). Plus it’s giving the town more information by requiring new players to revote.
