Still doesn't make sense to me other than for financial reasons to have played that 163rd game when we beat the Brewers 11 or 12 times out of 19. What was even the point of playing those now? This season was a disappointment.

Really can't argue with you there. Divisions (and even conferences/leagues) are out-dated in sports. Only thing they serve at this point is to reinforce regional rivalries.

When the MLB inevitably expands to 32 teams, i foresee the playoffs going forward with 6 teams in each league, maybe eventually even going with 8.

It saves teams (in applicable sports) and leagues (in applicable sports) a lot of money, time, and effort on travel, even in leagues with a balanced schedule like the NBA. In the MLB I would imagine it saves considerable resources throughout the season, given that teams play most days through a long season.
In the NFL, it'd make no significant logistical difference, but I personally would hate less inter-conference play if they eliminated divisions altogether. I can get behind forming two divisions of 8 teams each within each league. I think that could work very nicely.
MLB divisions aren't necessarily distributed by geography, though. They're divided somewhat by that but also by this archaic AL/NL divide. We still pretend the two are different leagues when they clearly are not. It's based on tradition.
That said, the Cubs had an elimination game at home with everything on the line and scored one run. They lost. Thems the breaks!
Brock Holt is a top tier utility guy. He can do it all!
Holt isn't gonna hit 20 HR and drive in 80. But his position versatility and ability to get on base is really helpful for the Sox.
I'm hoping the Sox can put the Yankees away tonight, so we can prepare to get destroyed by Houston again.
I'm pretty scared of both the Sox/Yanks. seems like our hitters are coming back around, and our starters are still incredible, but the lineups of both these other teams seem so daunting.
