And it's only not-interference if the player makes the catch while in the stands. If a player makes the catch while in the field of play and then flips into...say...the opposing bullpen, the catch stands.
Unfortunately a security guard was (apparently?) blocking the view of who was where so we'll never know.

You can't definitively say anything about whether he would have made the catch. Robberies of home runs are remarkable because they are difficult, not because they are a given. One.
Two: it's not interference because the ball had cleared the wall. This is pretty clear from the replay. The spectator did not reach into the field of play. The rule reads as such:
"No interference shall be allowed when a fielder reaches over a fence, railing, rope or into a stand to catch a ball. He does so at his own risk. However, should a spectator reach out on the playing field side of such fence, railing or rope, and plainly prevent the fielder from catching the ball, then the batsman should be called out for the spectator’s interference."
Seems perfectly clear to me that the ball was outside the field of play. The referees themselves did not confirm the call. They merely said it stood. They said it was insufficient evidence to cover their asses and save face. Joe West is a guy who people already felt should not be an umpire in this game, if any MLB game.
Three: let me now facetiously apologize for how much of a bummer it is that you didn't get that out in the coolest possible way.. The Sox got the out, won the game by exactly as many runs as were saved by the out, and will probably win the series. Oh, it just breaks my heart you didn't get to see a home run get stolen when the Sox won the fucking game anyway and you got a great, game-saving catch to end the game.
This is absolute garbage, and if the Astros were the Yankees or Cubs or Red Sox, there would be documentaries and oral histories of this farce, but since it's the Astros and Houston no one will give half a shit.

At least it wasn’t as bad as Jeffrey Maier. I still have nightmares about that.

The Houston area is more populated than Boston, but whatever.

are we playing a game where we pretend like the Red Sox aren't more important to the story of baseball than the Astros?

He's trying to make the argument that Boston will get better ratings, even though it's a smaller city.
If you want to make the argument the league is fucking someone over for ratings - how about this: the Red Sox already have a devout and large fanbase. They don't need the help. The Astros are in a huge market, and (excluding the Killer B's era) have been an also ran for their existence. Wouldn't they be a great candidate to build up a fanbase to elite status? Be one alongside the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox...
Plus, the Astros beat the Red Sox, Yankees, and Dodgers last year. So much for that theory.
Interestingly, someone made a similar argument that the Brewers would get screwed over by the Dodgers if the opportunity arose, due to ratings concerns. If I was a Brewer fan, I'd be way more worried than an Astro fan if shenanigans were happening.

more bandwagoner, more lifers after moving, people who are fans of the sport. boston led houston by 2.2 ratings points and 52 thousands households through July of this year.
don't mistake our population for market, we aren't a "big market" because we have a lot of transplants, I've been to Astros games with more Reds fans in attendance.
and yeah, the brewers it would definitely seem more likely. i was explaining the other day how hard it is for teams like that to operate when we realized basically their whole team outside of Braun were essentially cast offs signed within the last couple of years.

Obviously I'm just super pissed. I don't really think it's a fix. But I do think the officiating has been poor, and most of it has benefited the Red Sox.
The Astros have also straight up been disappointing at times. I don't think there's been a game where both the pitching and hitting have lived up to their expectations in the same game.
Really, when we can track how fast a 3" ball is going up to triple digits, track exit velocity of said ball as it's hit, and then how far it's been hit, we shouldn't be using human judgment to see if a ball went past a wall with a highly regulated and recorded distance.

I'd be way more pissed off about the umpires tonight. Kinsler, JBJ, and JD all should of struck out. Fortunately for Houston, Boston only got one run out of it.
I feel like we're getting make up calls with the strikes but a little too late there. Just be consistent.
Fwiw I think the Sox have played a great series. I love mookie as much as I hated that call. Their whole outfield has just destroyed us. Price also looked like 2008 price again, just what are the odds there.
I'd like the Brew to still pull it off. Yelich will probably be NLMVP and one of betts/jd Martinez for AL, and idk how often the MVPs from both leagues face off.

Not that often at this point. Hasn't happened since 1988 at my check. Happened a lot before then though.
Would be nice to see the Brewers, cause they never won a WS before and only been once iirc. Dodgers might just be too overwhelming though, the Brewers pitching isn't quite good enough.

their bullpen is so so good. im kind of surprised soria has been so bad.

Was that Greta Van Fleet on the bumper music for game seven? These kids are exploding. I heard them on another enormous commersh the other day. Roo could do much worse with it's number eight spot, I suppose. I'm surprised the Brewers got this to seven. They improved very quickly. Have they done it via farm mainly or trade?
