Its all about the contracts. And all the big wigs had their semi annual meeting today and talked about lots of stuff. Get ready for higher ticket prices due to limited capacity and more livestream/paywall content. If youre cool paying $100 for somebody, than thats the new normal in the future til things are fine.

I’ll gladly pay $100 for a club show in October. This live stream bullshit just isn’t cutting it anymore.
you forgot about the k pop kids who all do this right now. BTS just did a pay per view thing and like 50,000 people paid for the stream. Itll also be the platform for merch sales and they can personilize every show if they want. Imagine getting a custom shirt for whatever tour date you watched and not just the generic stuff you would find all the time. Theyre going to get creative.
Lets not forget the people who will record the stream and post it everywhere else. Just getting the bootlegs will be a whole other game.

I'll take your word for it, I know next to nothing about k-pop.

See for yourself. This was another recent broadcast. Theyre always ahead of the game. The u.s. based acts just Dont do it cause theyve never had to tap into those global revenue streams as much.they paid $30 each to watch
I think it's as successful because those acts rarely come to the States. Heck I'd pay to watch a live streamed Utada Hikaru concert since she literally hasn't performed in the States since I've been old enough to pay for shows. But I wouldn't do it for a Frank, for example. Yes he's very rare but when he does play it's basically guaranteed that he'll touch Southern California. I feel like a lot of people who are, usually, spoiled with an abundance of shows won't pay for live streams of non rare artists. But there's definitely markets for it.
For whatever it’s worth FKA Twigs posted on Instagram that she’ll probably never perform her magdelene show again.
Post-Coachella/current tour? Did she give a reason why? Glad I caught her at Flog, maybe the best set that weekend.
The implication is she recognizes that it's going to be a very long time before she performs again, period, and whenever that time comes, she'll be onto the next one. At this point, even thinking there will be a Coachella in April 2021 feels a bit optimistic to me.

Glad I saw her 2x
And $30?! I paid $3 for Badu the other day and while it was incredible it was shorter than her $1 and $2 show and I didn’t feel the same feeling that I got a steal Lmaoo. Paying over $5 for a stream it has to be a festival or an artist doing songs/albums they never do.

The k pop kids were mad about the pricing but there was enough that didnt care and they got their money.

I think the paid streaming thing could work for a small handful of huge acts, but it's not a replacement for the concert industry. Acts that book venues under 8k are not going to get people spending a significant amount of money to see their virtual show. The drive in concert idea is more interesting IMO, but that seems like a stretch as well for most acts.
I think there's a bigger likelihood than people want to acknowledge that both LiveNation and AEG enter bankruptcy here and maybe don't make it out. LiveNation has Ticketmaster, which is basically dead for the next 3-12 months or longer. AEG has sporting venues and teams on top of concerts, and they won't get any revenue from those for a long, long time. We're not going to get any events with crowds at least til next year, maybe beyond. These companies are pretty fucked, and I struggle to imagine what they'll look like on the other side, if they continue to exist.

Some states have green lighted fans in attendance to sporting events. The capacity just can't exceed a certain percentage. Like Florida said 25% capacity. But even that's not enough.

regarding live streams, i've paid for a Phish livestream a few times, $20. their streams are extremely high quality, great camera work, great sound. it's exciting to watch something live and with a better-than-front-row view from the comfort of your couch. there are active setlist/live viewing threads across multiple platforms (reddit, phish.net, etc.) so you can participate in that and feel like you are watching with others.
i'd probably buy more but my wife strongly dislikes Phish, so the few times i've watched a live stream is when she is out of the house for an evening.

I could see myself paying $5 to relive a really good set. Watching the MMJ shaky set the other day was really cool. I’d pay to rewatch Radiohead Atlanta 2017, Jack Whites last two ATL dates, Kanye 2016, any Roger Waters Us v Them or Sturgill Bonnaroo 2018.

Yea after watching three Radiohead shows yesterday, I would also pay $5 for some older shows. Not sure if I would pay for a stream of a band playing to no one though. I watched Dropkick do their St. Patrick's day thing and it was awkward to watch. That might just be that I don't really like Dropkick though.

I think there’s a cool way to do it. Like a Radiohead basement type show.

ya thats the thing, the people who actually need the money arent going to be able to charge for a live show compared to Radiohead who doesnt who could.

Reading your wife hates Phish makes me relieved to be with a fiancée who hates jungle, drum n bass and a lot of the off kilter electronic music I like.
