Timberlake with two of Cardi, Chance, Lana, and Rihanna
Alternate names: Drake, Medye, maybe Travis, Frank, or Lorde
If there's a band, Vampire Weekend comes to mind, but I probably overrate them as a headliner possibility; let's see what happens for them this year.
If there's a non-millennial band, the best hook I can see is a Rage Against the Machine reunion, but I'm not sure how interested they are in playing the festival these days.

2006 needs its fresh ideas back.
Yeah, EDM with funny costumes and staging is completely over now.

I agree. Just saying that the hook for the last two bands of white guys in their 50s+ to headline was a reunion (or an end to a hiatus or whatever). I don't see that hook for Foo Fighters or Pearl Jam or Metallica. At least the last have indicated that they're interested, but I see more indications of artistic differences than new music coming out of that camp.

I know trends are trends but I still feel like a Metallica set is inevitable. Coldplay will still be around too. But if they have avoided the Green Day’s and Foos this long then who knows.

I have the same (somewhat inconsistent) feels. I don't yet see what makes 2020 Metallica's year.

“Inevitably”, not 2020 exclusively. I guess though if I feel like they might not book some of those Desert Trip acts again than the same could be said for Big 4 acts.
If she has a new album as anticipated then I would expect her to finally end up heading up all the world’s major fests.
shes not going to play festivals. She makes sooo much money on her tours and its just so much for them to either pay or for her to pass up. No one has capitalized on the modern concert market better than Madonna
