I wonder how many of these albums would have been released by Coachella and they just sat on them because of the postponement
This crossed my mind, but I think they would've at least been announced if it were the case, unless they were meant to be surprise drops. They're getting announced 3+ months in advance right now. And I'm not sure what they'd really be gaining by waiting to release.
I feel like it's half delayed drops and half of it coming from artists having all this extra time to write/record, so extra music.

Totally, though Disclosure and Lana at least were definitely working on new music ahead of Coachella.

I’m sure a lot of it is related to corona more than Coachella. Not being able to do press and shows is a big reason to not release music. I think that’s why Travis has pivoted to his Kid Cudi collab now. And will drop his solo closer to Coachella (unless it’s really oct 2021)
They better give Moses Sumney sunset on the Outdoor for "2021". He gave shafted in 2018 with people not getting in early because the wristband reader wasn't working. I was fortunate enough to get in before then and his set was probably the best all weekend, in terms of sound quality. græ is amazing.
I saw Moses do a sound check cuz I got in right when doors opened. It was only me and some other girl watching. It was super cool and I got to say hi to him.
Is it safe to assume they'll announce something before the June 1 refund cutoff? They can't still be thinking it'll happen this October.
I had it pegged as June 1st. But theyll wait after the progress of today with moving to Stage 3 in some areas already. Theres zero reason to make an announcement at the 11th hour of the refund period for the festival. They have given everyone almost 3 months to make a decision, and then we might end up with another. But I think they could luck out by the skin of their teeth with whats transpiring. They can hold out for another month. The July 4th full re opening might be their new target date now and theyll go from there.
Look, the governor is allowing theme parks to open as limited as it will be. Those are more dangerous environments than the festival would be. Theyll have some precedent and likely a lot of support from Riverside County since theyre trying to figure out their tax revenue deficit right now. Disneyland aint going anywhere and its not changing. Coachella is a whole other game. Think there might be a more grateful audience even if its for 75% of the weekend before everyone returns to being assholes, but there will at least be people trying to make sure there isnt a shit show.
Louis the Child was supposed to play Phoenix the Friday of weekend 2 in April. That show got postponed to the Friday of weekend 2 in October. Just got an email that it's moved again to Friday, October 15, 2021.
Am I reading too much into this, or is it another sign that we're looking at a move to October 2021?
FWIW, the rest of their tour was also rescheduled for 2021, but for July - September. the Phoenix date is now a month removed from the rest of the tour.

Not sure I follow all of this. How do you think theme parks are more dangerous than Coachella? I feel like I come into close proximity with way more people at Coachella than at Disneyland.
Are you saying you think Coachella could threaten to move if Riverside County doesn't let them go forward with the festival? Even with all their infrastructure investments and history aside, it doesn't seem like it would be good for the festival's brand to play hardball against public health concerns.
If the fest were to happen in October, I wonder how many bands would be uncomfortable traveling/playing and back out.
Not really that far fecthed. But their routing isnt strange at all, theres just lots of gaps there. Because its kinda set up for them to play in April and just tack on so cal and a vegas date in that gap, phoenix is just an outlier. But why the hell is Lauren Daigle routing to April and not October?. 🤔
If we are gonna play the Charlie Day insane o theories game, lets do this again lol.
1. October this year is off the books.
2. It will be announced that it is moving to April 2021. Further details on what the festival will do in terms of protecting attendees and such will also be given.
3. It will also be announced that October 2021 is also happening and will be its own entity.
4. There will be some acts that were on this years line to end up on the October edition due to prior commitments and such.
5. They give out the headliners for October 2021 as a gesture of good faith along with the advance sale, which will have a longer payment plan to make it easier to pay off. ( we know theyve booked at a couple years in advance before, so thats not a stretch)
6. Everyone goes apeshit.
Edit: just saw the bloomberg story. Was too busy typing above.

They wont move. Thats a whole other can of worms to deal with cause they have to break their contract with Indio. The thing right now would be precedent being set, and theme parks would do that. They were in the same category as festivals and conventions hut got downgraded to Stage 3. So whats to stop them from wanting to carry on if possible? We wont know now it seems from the above story.
Disneyland is a much more dangerous environment than coachella because of the constant turn around. And ya know, rides, stores, bottlenecks from crowding, enclosed rides, all more dangerous than an open air event. ( yeah sonora and yuma , but really ) You understand that when they were operating normally they could have 60,000 people in their parks a the same time? Do that every single day and how many UNIQUE people are in there. Where as Cochella is what, 99% the same people each day it happens on its respective weekend? I had been saying that they needed to close way sooner than they did just because of that. And you had people come from far and wide entering the parks daily. ( yes coachella is the same in that regard ) You also dont know everyone thats entering, where at a festival where everyone had to give their info to buy a ticket ( even resale ) you know who is there. Tracing due to the wristbands is something at least and can be used somehow im sure.
"Some of the acts have consented to playing next year, but others have yet to do so for both health and financial reasons, according to the people. Not every performer in the 2020 lineup has been asked to play next year, according to one person."
This is what I originally guessed would happen, only some of the lineup would be asked to return and the rest would be new for 2021.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

Just logged in for the first time in years to say Disneyland won't be operating like usual when it does reopen. Advance reservations will be required so there's your contact tracing. Capacity will be extremely limited as well. Shanghai Disneyland is only allowing 20,000 guests each day (last time I checked that's way less than Coachella's daily attendance). Masks and temperature checks are also required for admittance. They also won't be doing fireworks, parades and character interactions to curtail crowds gathering together. Wouldn't be surprised if they operate at reduced hours in order to deep cleaning every night in addition to the extra cleaning they will now do during operating hours. So you can stop using Disneyland reopening in the next couple of months as an argument for why Coachella can still happen in October with 100,000+ people each day.

There are a few things that make Disney worse IMO: 1. More air conditioned situations = more risk 2. More days (if Disney were only opening for 6 days, I would probably say Coachella were more risky at large) 3. More at-risk/elderly attendees (more people over the age of 40) 4. More surfaces to sanitize (though this seems to be less of an issue than originally thought)
I think it's close, and I think your individual risk is probably greater at Coachella than Disney, but the at-large risk is greater at Disney mostly due to the volume of people coming through.

So since it looks like we may get only some artists returning from 2020 to 2021, I decided to create a poll to gather who people would want to see get rebooked for Coachella 2021. I'm crossposting this between the Reddit sub and Facebook group to get a variety of responses. I also set it so that you can choose as many artists as you want. I'll post the results after a few days.

Oh my god how important you feel to think that I didnt read what they were going to do. Overall theme parks are higher risk than the festival space is, but go feel warm and fuzzy for giving some thoughts.

Lol good to see the board migration didn't change supre. Don't know how me presenting facts as a counterargument is supposed to make myself feel important and warm and fuzzy, but okay. Also, I don't understand how you can say a sold out Coachella with people jam packed against each other in front of stages is safer than a place that is putting in considerable efforts to put social distancing measures in place and enforcing those restrictions?

The biggest difference is that Disney can pull the plug on the parks if there's a surge or another new development that changes the math. They'll make money until they can't anymore. Coachella is only two weekends, it's a much bigger gamble to assume everything will be fine in October.
It would also be easier to regulate 20K patrons on family vacations than 100K partying at Coachella. People will break the rules at Disney, but one would assume not to the extent we might see at such a massive festival. It’s just all far less predictable.
Just realized that Black Coffee is no longer on the lineup page.
Fall is spring in South African and there are a few edm festivals there. Granted those might be canceled now but I could see that being why he didn’t initially transfer over.
Things are looking up though. Other states are allowing limited capacity sports viewing, and all of SoCal besides LA County has dine in available now. (Orange County is wildin they have clubs open). Not just for Coachella but hoping at least small venue shows will be available this year.
