You look at Ontario? That puts you 50 miles east of LA and only an hour and change from Indio. And what other than gas is going to be expensive? Buying snacks at a mini mart? Not being able to find a wal mart til you get to the inland empire?
Ontario is much more expensive than the rest
While not scenic, the drive from Phoenix isn’t bad. It takes around 4 hours and you won’t hit any traffic on the way home. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about Phoenix if you need answers.

I've never hit traffic coming from the East, and I've been in gridlocks between San Diego and LA that have made me want to murder. So I think Phoenix is a fine option.

Coincidentally, I’m in Arizona right now. Go Cardinals.
Also worth checking John Wayne airport. When I used to live in a flyover state I flew into John Wayne for Coachella once and it wasn't bad. And of course check Palm Springs airport, just in case.
Long Beach and OC are flight options as well. LAX to Indio isn't bad if you know when to move. If possible, I'd worry less about where you fly to and try to plan around the gaps of time that don't have traffic so the drive is smooth. Its usually a tad more expensive to fly to SD, LB, OC, Ontario, Palm Springs. And I personally wouldn't want to drive all the way back to PHX after the long weekend lol.
Coldplay officially out with the iheart alter ego 2020 in January? Would that rule out Rex too?
Coldplay has been out the whole time, so Alter Ego is the nail in the coffin. Rex isnt out since he is a lower billed act. So its not as if somebody is going to cry bloody murder over it. The shrine shows were announced first anyway, and sold out before the other show add. And weezer played both, so theres exceptions to be made.

You could just fly into Burbank and at least its a smaller airport and depending the time you land, not an insanely bad drive. Anything after 3pm and youll be stuck heading out east.
Fly in to LAX on Thursday. Go to Disneyland. Leave the park a little after 10p and you'll be in Palm Springs by midnight with little traffic. That's how I spend my "Day 0" every year.
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide

John is a great guitarist and it’s cool that he’s back in the band and all, but I still don’t see them playing. Interesting timing with the announcement tho.
