I'm a fan of most of Flume's discography but after his last set at Coachella, I can't say I'm excited about having him on the lineup in 2020. Especially considering I'm not hearing many positive things about his set at Lolla.
What is it exactly that people don't like about Flume's new set as compared to his old set? Not like he was doing anything before.
It's very simple.
People don't like it because it's A. stupid, B. pre-recorded. A few people I know from the sub that were at Lolla said songs were transitioning and the "live" parts of his set were happening while he was off smashing shit and laying down on stage.
Like I get it if DURING the song you are off doing your performance art nonsense, but at least attempt to pretend that you are actually performing instead of just pressing play. He's up there twisting knobs and nothing is happening to the song, it just sounds the same like it is on Spotify.

Why would it better if he's pretending to play? Flume is garbage and this set sounds painfully silly, but I can respect the effort. If he's just going to hit play, throwing in some half baked performance art is better than faking it.

All this flume talk got me a little curious about his Lolla set. This video of him is pretty funny, as he's clearly just laying down, though he's a bit more active for Free here.
But...the comments and reactions on both of those videos are very positive. I can't find a lot of super negative buzz online about the set; the Lolla sub is probably 60/40 in favor of the set. Some people disappointed, sure, but a lot of people who loved it. And it does appear he had a number of guests. Not my thing, but nothing to make me think he's any less likely to be booked at Coachella.

I'm still confused. This has always been what Flume fans like about Flume live - he sounds exactly the same as he does on Spotify. He's just playing the songs off a playlist on a big speaker system. He has always done this, half-assed banging of a single drum pad notwithstanding.
I feel like at this point all of our energy spent discussing Flume would be much better spent trying to manifest Basement Jaxx playing this festival instead.

He also definitely added new sounds into the live set. its not just "the same as on Spotify." the only two things i disliked about the osheaga set were the low volume, and Reo Craguns voice live. The dude was absolutely terrible and I say that as a fan of the Quits EP. It also could have used a couple songs from his debut.

Predicting Coachella gets BROCKHAMPTON, slowthai, fka twigs, Dominick Fike, Yuna and Tommy Genesis from this lineup. Really, really hoping the Internet gets booked--though 2019 would probably have been the right time instead of 2 years after Hive Mind.
YG - billed 8th on his day this year - billed above Brockhampton is interesting.
Probably flashes Brockhampton in that 4-7 range assuming they get some pickup over the next six months, but I doubt they're a true sub candidate. They could be this year's Anderson Paak that everyone on this board overrates.

Also think we probably overestimate FKA Twigs based on her billing here. She's billed the same as Blood Orange, so probably 3rd line?

I think Twigs finally dropping another album could push her up a bit while another Brockhampton album before Coachella won’t make much of a difference.

Twigs didn't do herself any favors waiting so long for a follow-up. I think she's still 2nd line, but reserve the right to change that opinion when her album's out (and she's not getting booked without an album).
Flog Gnaw is a Goldenvoice fest, so there's a good chance that many of these undercard acts wind up at Coachella.
I wonder what line DaBaby would potentially get at Coachella lineup, if they book him. My gut says third line.
There were only 7 that ended up on the line up this year. So it would end up about a similar number. I think Day n Vegas would be a better talent indicator hip hop wise if you wanna try to get an idea of what 2020 has in store.
Daniel Caesar, FKA, slowthai, Solange, Elephant Gym, 21 Savagae
